Work starts on new cricket nets in town
The nets are being installed next to the tennis courts, with the work expected to take up to three weeks, depending on weather and ground conditions.
The council has assured that access to Culver Close from the main road near the tennis courts remains open, and the tennis courts will continue to operate as usual.
For the safety and convenience of the workers, a couple of benches have been temporarily removed, but they will be reinstated once the installation of the nets is completed.
The new nets are part of the council's ongoing efforts to improve recreational facilities in the area and encourage more residents to engage in sports activities.

The council has stated that the nets will provide a great opportunity for both amateur and seasoned cricketers to practice and hone their skills.
Residents have expressed their appreciation for the new addition, with many looking forward to using the facility once it is completed.
A spokesperson for the council said: "We are pleased to be able to provide this new facility for the community.
"We hope it will encourage more people to take up cricket and enjoy the many benefits of the sport."

Teenage Carlisle United defender joins Workington Reds on loan
Promising teenage Carlisle United defender Hayden Atkinson has joined Workington Reds on loan. The 17-year-old west Cumbrian has linked up with Darren Edmondson's squad on a work experience deal. Atkinson, who impressed for United's first team in pre-season, has joined the Reds for a month. He could make his debut in Saturday's Northern Premier League Premier Division trip to Hednesford Town. The Cleator Moor prospect recently signed his first two-year professional deal at Brunton Park after some good pre-season performances. Head coach Mark Hughes has been impressed by Atkinson's progress and United now hope the centre-back will gain good first-team experience under former Blues player and coach Edmondson at Borough Park. Reds are seeking an early-season boost after defeats in their opening two league games, a 6-0 thrashing at Stockton Town on Tuesday following last Saturday's 2-1 home reverse to Whitby Town. Arsenal learn u18 Premier League Cup group stage draw
The Arsenal u18s have learned their group stage draw for the u18 Premier League Cup in 2025/26, with the competition kicking off this month. Photo via Arsenal have confirmed that they're due to face Peterborough United, Stoke City, and Norwich City in this season's u18 Premier League Cup group stage, playing Peterborough at home and the other two games away. The group stage is always competitive, with only the top team guaranteed a spot in the knockouts. Unless you win all three matches, qualification can end up out of your hands. The competition kicks off in August, with Arsenal hosting Peterborough on Tuesday, August 26th. The young Gunners will then travel to Stoke on Saturday, October 4th, before wrapping up the group stage away to Norwich on Saturday, November 22nd. The u16 Premier League Cup mirrors the u18 competition, so they'll play the same group stage matches. Photo via The u18 draw follows the recent u17 Premier League Cup draw, with the Arsenal u17s receiving matches against Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Watford. The u17 group will hope for another successful year, stepping up to this level having won the u16 Premier League Cup last season. The young Gunners triumphed with a 3-1 win over Chelsea in the final thanks to goals from Kyran Thompson, Josiah King, and Marley Frohock.
