Road Closures: M4 travel impacted for Durban Ironman tomorrow
Most of the M4 will be closed to accommodate the Durban Isuzu Ironman 70.3 triathlon tomorrow (June 1).
The 90.5km bike leg of the race follows a coastal route from the Durban Promenade to Umdloti and back, forcing the closures for athlete safety.
Between 5am and 2.30pm, motorists will be unable to use the M4 highway between Umdloti and Sandile Thusi Road near the Durban CBD.
Motorists are urged to rather use the N2 for long-distance travel, although a number of M4 crossing points are available.
M4 crossings
Sibaya residents and visitors to Sibaya Casino can use Sibaya Drive for access. The crossing of the M4 at the M4/Sibaya Drive/Heleza Boulevard circle will be monitored by Saps.
Umhlanga crossings are available at Egret Lane and Umhlanga Rocks Drive..
The M41 will be closed east of Ridgeside Drive.
La Lucia and Durban North residents can cross at Ridge Road, Inca Drive, Hinton Grove and Swapo Road.
Athlone Drive will remain open at Blue Lagoon.
Further delays can be expected at Country Club Beach and Battery Beach as large sections of Snell Parade will also be closed.
For those attending the event, parking and access points will be clearly marked, but be prepared for some congestion around key race locations.

Orlando Pirates set sights on Atlantis-born talent
Orlando Pirates may reignite their pursuit of long-time target Jaedin Rhodes, as preparations for the upcoming season intensify. The Soweto giants, reflecting on a campaign that delivered both triumph and heartbreak, are already making moves in the transfer market. Last season brought the MTN8 Cup back to the Bucs' cabinet, but they fell just short of glory in both the CAF Champions League semifinals and the Nedbank Cup. Despite parting ways with head coach Jose Riveiro, the club remains focused on rebuilding a title-challenging squad. One name firmly back in the mix is 22-year-old Jaedin Rhodes. The Cape Town City midfielder, born in Atlantis, remains a top priority despite an underwhelming season on paper. Rhodes featured in 28 matches across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing a single assist. Still, Pirates remain undeterred. According to a source, they plan to renew efforts to bring Rhodes to Johannesburg during the upcoming transfer window, despite City's past resistance. 'Pirates have always shown an interest in Rhodes, and he fits the physical and technical profile in terms of age as well,' a source told The South African . Cape Town City's current predicament may tip the scales. The Citizens are staring down the barrel of a Promotion/Relegation Play-Off clash, currently set to involve Casric Stars and Orbit College. This uncertainty could make it increasingly difficult for the club to hold onto key players like Rhodes. Making things trickier for the Pirates, however, is Rhodes' contract situation. Just last year, he extended his stay with City by signing a five-year deal, making a potential move more complex and possibly more expensive. 'His numbers are not great but they believe he could do well at Orlando Stadium. The new coach that comes in will also play a role in how he progresses, should he come,' the source added. Despite modest statistics, Pirates see long-term potential in Rhodes. His age, athleticism, and technical style align with the club's long-term strategic goals. Phalaborwa safari guide inspires love for African wilderness
LIMPOPO – Elias Shai's heart beats loudest in the African wilderness. Shai, the safari guide and founder of Shane Royal Safaris, has spent the last 20 years turning unforgettable safari experiences into lifelong memories for visitors from across the globe. He has made a name for himself in the ecotourism industry by turning routine game drives into animal encounters that people will never forget. Today, he is not just guiding tourists but inspiring a new generation to see the wild with wonder and care. 'Guiding is more than just showing animals to tourists. It is about connecting with people, protecting nature, and sharing knowledge about the wild,' he said. He holds a BA degree in administration from the University of Venda and never imagined that his future would lie deep in the African bush. 'I never got a job in my field of study. That led me to pursue opportunities in the hospitality industry, where I eventually worked at a lodge. I found myself fascinated by the guests' safari stories, and it made me fall in love with guiding,' he explained. In 2005, he qualified as a professional tour guide specialising in birds and mammals. However, he is not only an expert in that, but a passionate educator, helping tourists understand and appreciate South Africa's rich wildlife heritage. Moreover, in 2020, he launched his company to educate and share the love for wildlife.'We are here to create environmental awareness. A responsible guide ensures that guests respect nature by not polluting and protecting the animals. We must protect this ecosystem,' said Shai. He also mentioned that strong interpersonal skills are required to become a successful safari guide. 'If you have strong interpersonal skills, a love for nature, and the ability to share knowledge entertainingly, then you can truly give your guests the best experience of their lives,' he added. Over the years, Shai said that he has witnessed some of nature's most thrilling moments: lions taking down buffalo, leopards hunting baby impalas, and even a crocodile ambushing a porcupine, which he described as an unusual and unforgettable sight. However, even after 20 years of his experience, it is still difficult to see some animals. 'The brown hyena and the pangolin are the most difficult to find. Only the spotted and striped hyena can be easily seen,' he stated. At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!

Kaizer Chiefs hijack transfer in dramatic u-turn from Sundowns
Kaizer Chiefs are on the brink of pulling off a sensational coup in the transfer market, overtaking Mamelodi Sundowns in the race to sign highly-rated Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum, despite the latter offering a more lucrative package. In a twist few saw coming, Chiefs have emerged as the likely destination for the Azam FC star, with a source close to the deal suggesting Salum is now favouring a move to Naturena. While Sundowns may have flexed their financial muscle, it appears the Glamour Boys' personal touch has made all the difference. Chiefs and Sundowns have both shown strong interest in Salum. But the momentum has shifted thanks to a strategic visit to Tanzania by Kaizer Chiefs officials. A move that reportedly swayed the player's decision. 'The visit to Tanzania by Kaizer Chiefs' officials has changed most of the things concerning Feisal Salum's move to South Africa,' a source revealed. 'At the moment it's believed that the involved parties concerning the player's personal welfare and needs have been agreed upon. Apparently, the presence of coach Nabi in Tanzania helped that a lot. It's as good as done as far as the player agreeing to join Chiefs is concerned.' In a clever move to sweeten the deal. Chiefs plan to include their goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari in the transfer deal. Azam FC reportedly admire the Rwandan shot-stopper, which makes the offer significantly more appealing to the Tanzanian club. This strategic inclusion signals just how serious Chiefs are about landing Salum. And how far they're willing to go to outmanoeuvre Sundowns. While money often talks in high-stakes transfer battles, this case highlights the importance of club culture, vision, and relationships. Salum is believed to be impressed by what Kaizer Chiefs are building and feels aligned with their football philosophy. Will Salum be the main man Kaizer Chiefs were looking for?
