A group of Oilers fans in St. Albert is finding their own unique way to support the team without having to go down to the Ice District.
Seniors at Everitt Gardens are known for their Oilers game day videos on TikTok, often dressing up and belting out their best chants.
While many people might know Mama Stanley, a local fan donned in silver sequins and paint in the Moss Pit, Ed Wilkins is taking a spin by dressing up too, with his group dubbing him Papa Stanley.
'First of all, I thought they were kidding me and secondly, I thought I was nuts to do it but it's fun.' Wilkins told CTV News Edmonton.
His outfit consists of a silver face paint, a sequined T-shirt, a silver top hat with tinsel and a glittery skirt to replicate the Stanley Cup. Wilkins says last year Mama Stanley paid a visit and loved his outfit as well.
'He's such a trooper, he doesn't mind putting on the makeup and he wears our glitter skirt and the glitter top and he gets fully dressed as Papa Stanley,' said Everitt Gardens recreation manager Lori Cary on Tuesday.
Cary says it warms her heart to see the seniors build a community during the Oilers playoffs.
'We like to say this is their home and you can really see the love and the fun that they have of shooting these videos and cheering on their favourite team,' she said.
She added making TikTok videos to the seniors' recreation calendar for Tuesday afternoons to ensure they kept the spirit going throughout the season.
Cary says after Mama Stanley's visit, it was only fair that Papa Stanley make his mark and Wilkins volunteered for the role.
Wilkins has no doubt he'll be putting on his silver outfit for a potential Game 7.
'They are a great team, there's no two ways about it.'

To answer the obvious, no need to have seen the OG to follow this story — just dive in! Personal note: I was incorrectly really hoping this show would be a riff on the 1976 Mad Magazine parody of Jaws, which was actually titled Jaw'd — get with it, childhood memories! Instead, in the sticky hands of Grindstone's fine chorus, Gums is their own twist on Spielberg's classic fish story, mixed in with hilariously up-to-date references like the Oilers recently get squished again or the Air Canada strike — all this, remember, somehow taking place before last year's play about Edmonton's fabled construction side effect of 2017, which makes it even funnier. Please try again No one around here is as good as Grindstone at musicals these days — Rocky Horror and Jason Kenney's Hot Boy Summer come to mind — Gums team written by the players and musical alchemists Simon Abbott and Erik Mortimer. The basic plot is for sure a Jaws riff, except that instead of chomping people, whatever submeniscal creature is killing people off Accidental Beach is, well, sucking them to death, down the exact size of a deflated, repeatedly re-used blow-up doll. Sandy — the magnetic Abby Vandenberghe and onetime Deena Hinshaw — is a rather talentless head lifeguard, having nepo'd the job from her dad, Dr. Mayor Rogers-Place (Malachi Wilkins). Also swirling through the show's memorable and perfectly plot-turning songs is Razor, one hell of a fine singer in the bold, banana-hammocked shape of actor Dallas Friesen. As the audience-chosen body count rises, compelling interpersonal dramas splat against the wall in beautiful song numbers. (It was especially weird having the crew sing I'm into Fish, but that's another story…) Sandy must confront her avoidance of being wet. Rogers-Place refuses to shut the beach because the city is so depressed about the Oilers' failure. And a musical flex match inevitably occurs between Sea-Doo hoser Razor doling out river water and heroin and an Aussie biologist Dick Lickums who calls his adversary a 'chum chugglah,' played delightfully by Ethan Snowden.
