St. Albert seniors cheering on the Oilers with their very own Papa Stanley

A group of Oilers fans in St. Albert is finding their own unique way to support the team without having to go down to the Ice District.
Seniors at Everitt Gardens are known for their Oilers game day videos on TikTok, often dressing up and belting out their best chants.
While many people might know Mama Stanley, a local fan donned in silver sequins and paint in the Moss Pit, Ed Wilkins is taking a spin by dressing up too, with his group dubbing him Papa Stanley.
'First of all, I thought they were kidding me and secondly, I thought I was nuts to do it but it's fun.' Wilkins told CTV News Edmonton.
His outfit consists of a silver face paint, a sequined T-shirt, a silver top hat with tinsel and a glittery skirt to replicate the Stanley Cup. Wilkins says last year Mama Stanley paid a visit and loved his outfit as well.
'He's such a trooper, he doesn't mind putting on the makeup and he wears our glitter skirt and the glitter top and he gets fully dressed as Papa Stanley,' said Everitt Gardens recreation manager Lori Cary on Tuesday.
Cary says it warms her heart to see the seniors build a community during the Oilers playoffs.
'We like to say this is their home and you can really see the love and the fun that they have of shooting these videos and cheering on their favourite team,' she said.
She added making TikTok videos to the seniors' recreation calendar for Tuesday afternoons to ensure they kept the spirit going throughout the season.
Cary says after Mama Stanley's visit, it was only fair that Papa Stanley make his mark and Wilkins volunteered for the role.
Wilkins has no doubt he'll be putting on his silver outfit for a potential Game 7.
'They are a great team, there's no two ways about it.'

Blue Jays lose outfielders Clase and Straw to injury in 2 innings against Diamondbacks
Toronto Blue Jays' Jonatan Clase runs down a single hut by Philadelphia Phillies' Weston Wilson during the eighth inning of a baseball game, Sunday, June 15, 2025, in Philadelphia. (AP Photo/Laurence Kesterson) TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays lost center fielders Jonatan Clase and Myles Straw due to injuries within two innings Tuesday night against Arizona. Clase, who started in center, exited after being hit on the right knee by a pitch in the bottom of the fourth. Straw, his replacement, departed after crashing into the wall and spraining his right ankle while chasing down a double in the top of the fifth. Clase went down in pain after he was hit by a 93 mph sinker from Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt. Clase stayed in to run the bases, but the inning ended when the next batter, Bo Bichette, flied out. The Blue Jays said Clase left because of a bruised right knee. Four batters into the next inning, Straw slammed into the wall and went down while trying to catch Josh Naylor's RBI double. Naylor put his hands on his head as he looked out at Straw, his former Cleveland teammate, lying prone on the field. The Arizona slugger then walked all the way out to the wall to check on Straw. Naylor and Straw were teammates for parts of four seasons in Cleveland and became good friends in that time. 'He's a fierce competitor, incredible athlete,' Naylor said. 'He's a dear friend of mine and I just wanted to make sure he was OK. We got really close over our years in Cleveland and I'm very thankful for the relationship we have. I hated to see him go down. He's like a brother to me, so I just wanted to make sure he's all right." Straw eventually got to his feet and walked off the field through an outfield gate. He was replaced by rookie Alan Roden. Straw called Naylor 'one of my best friends in the game," adding that he doesn't expect to be sidelined too long. 'That's just who he is,' Straw said of Naylor. "He's a lover. He truly cares about everyone.' Toronto rallied for a 5-4 victory. ___ AP MLB: The Associated Press
