NJ Rep. Josh Gottheimer introduces resolution condemning ‘Globalize the Intifada' after Mamdani meeting
The resolution, co-sponsored by Rep. Rudy Yakym (R-Ind.), was unveiled one day after Gottheimer and other Democratic lawmakers met with New York City mayoral candidate Zoharan Mamdani in Washington, DC.
Mamdani has repeatedly refused to condemn the slogan, which is frequently used by anti-Israel activists in the Big Apple.

'There should be no ambiguity — 'Globalize the Intifada' is hate speech, plain and simple,' Gottheimer said in a statement. ''The Intifada' refers to a horrific wave of terror attacks that killed thousands of Jews. Globalizing it is a direct call for violence against Jews, and it must be condemned.'

Mamdani, an outspoken critic of Israel, has both awkwardly defended activists' use of 'globalize the intifada' and has flat-out refused to condemn it on several occasions.

The Queens assemblyman described the chant as an adage that reflects the 'desperate desire for equality and equal rights in standing up for Palestinian human rights,' in an interview with the Bulwark last month that went viral.
Mamdani later repeatedly refused to condemn the slogan, viewed by some as a call for violence against Jews, in an interview on NBC's 'Meet the Press.'
'That's not language that I use. The language that I use and the language that I will continue to use to lead this city is that which speaks clearly to my intent, which is an intent grounded in a belief in universal human rights,' he told host Kristen Welker on June 29.
'I don't believe that the role of the mayor is to police speech in that manner.'

Gottheimer appeared skeptical of Mamdani after his meeting with the far-left pol.
'I don't think higher taxes, anti-job creating socialism and an acceptance of antisemitic rhetoric is the right direction for America,' he told NOTUS. 'That said, I am always open to learning how I can reach more people with my commonsense, problem-solving approach.'

The Garden State lawmaker argued Thursday that it is 'insane and unacceptable' that 'Globalize the Intifada' chants are 'spreading rampant across our country,' declaring that 'everyone' should be against such 'hate speech.'
The slogan has long been associated with violent uprisings against Israel, and since the Oct. 7, 2023, terror attack on the Jewish state it has become a rallying cry for activists protesting Israel's war against Hamas.
'Words like these incite violence, fuel hate, and put Jewish families at risk,' the congressman, who is Jewish, added.
In April, the Anti-Defamation League reported 2024 as the worst year ever recorded for antisemitic incidents in the US.
ADL found a record-breaking 9,354 incidents of antisemitic assault, harassment and vandalism across the country last year, representing a 5% increase from 2023 and a 344% increase over the past five years.
'At a time when antisemitic violence is at record highs, we must stand united to condemn this antisemitic hate speech and take meaningful action to combat rising Jew hatred,' Gottheimer said.

Sorry, Jeffrey Epstein truthers, the pedophile was no spy — here's why
It's almost conventional wisdom in certain quarters that Jeffrey Epstein must have been working for the Israeli intelligence service Mossad. 'It's extremely obvious to anyone who watches that this guy,' Tucker Carlson said of Epstein the other day, 'had direct connections to a foreign government. No one is allowed to say that that foreign government is Israel because we've been somehow cowed into thinking that that's naughty.' Steve Bannon, covering all his bases, says Epstein was working for Mossad, MI6, Saudi intelligence and the CIA, while Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA only says that Epstein may have been working for Mossad. Advertisement The first question to ask about this purported relationship is, why would Mossad want to associate itself with Epstein? He was under investigation for his sexual crimes going back to 2005 and convicted of a few of them (as part of a sweetheart plea deal) in 2008, and would be under federal investigation again about a decade later. Clearly, it would risk an enormous black eye for the state of Israel to connect itself to a known sex offender whose lifestyle was a flamboyant and ongoing crime scene. Advertisement What would be the supposed upside? Compromising information on the rich and powerful? Presumably there'd be much easier ways to honey-trap men with untoward sexual appetites than hope they become friendly with Jeffrey Epstein and compromise themselves on his private island. If the notion of Epstein as Israeli spy seems implausible, if not farcical, it's gotten some superficial plausibility from parts of the record that have been exaggerated or misinterpreted. Advertisement Perhaps most important, the US attorney for the Southern District of Florida who worked out the plea deal with Epstein, Alex Acosta, supposedly said that he was told to go easy on Epstein by higher-ups in the Bush administration at the time because Epstein was with intelligence. Acosta allegedly said this as part of his vetting process to become President Donald Trump's first-term secretary of labor. But this didn't come directly from Acosta; rather, an unnamed source told the story to a reporter. Advertisement Acosta denies he ever said it. Asked about the matter at a press conference as labor secretary when the Epstein story reemerged, Acosta seemed to deny it — admittedly, in a halting and indirect fashion. As part of an extensive 2020 Justice Department Office of Professional Responsibility report into the handling of the case by Acosta and the Southern District, Acosta told investigators that he had no information about Epstein being an intelligence asset, and that his answer at the press conference was meant to be a 'no.' The report related that OPR 'found no evidence suggesting that Epstein' was an ''intelligence asset,' or that anyone — including any of the subjects of OPR's investigation — believed that to be the case.' What about Epstein's well-documented relationship with former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak? One assumes that a Mossad asset wouldn't spend inordinate time with a former high-ranking Israeli official. Israeli intelligence had to clean up after itself by killing an American citizen on US soil — in fact, while he was held in an American jail? By the way, if Mossad killed Epstein, and was capable of pulling off a no-fingerprints operation in extremely difficult circumstances on US soil, surely its agents would have killed his close associate Ghislaine Maxwell before she went to trial with an incentive to spill her guts. Catholic clergy: 'It is time to end this nonsense' in Gaza

Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, and Patriarch Theophilos III, Patriarch of Jerusalem, and other clergy toured the remains of the Catholic Church of the Holy Family in northern Gaza on Tuesday. They called for an end to the war during a press conference held afterward at the Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center in Israel. "We entered a place of devastation, but also of wonderful humanity," Pizzaballa told media. "We walked through the dust of ruins, past collapsed buildings and tents everywhere: in courtyards, alleyways, on the streets and on the beach -- tents that have become homes for those who have lost everything," Pizzaballa said. "And yet, in the midst of all this, we encountered something deeper than the destruction: the dignity of the human spirit that refuses to be extinguished," he continued. "We met mothers preparing food for others, nurses treating wounds with gentleness, and people of all faiths still praying to the God who sees and never forgets." Pizzaballa called on regional and world leaders to find a way to restore "life, dignity and all lost humanity" in Gaza. "It is time to end this nonsense, to end the war and put the common good of people as the top priority," he said. Patriarch Theophilos III called Gaza a "land bruised by prolonged affliction and pierced by the cries of its people" after touring the church's grounds. "We entered as servants of the suffering Body of Christ, walking among the wounded, the bereaved, the displaced and the faithful whose dignity remains unbroken despite their agony," Theophilos III said. "We encountered a people crushed by the weight of war, yet carrying within them the image of God," he said. "Among the broken walls of the Church of the Holy Family and the wounded hearts of its faithful, we witnessed both profound grief and unyielding hope." Theophilos III said, "Silence in the face of suffering is a betrayal of conscience," and called on the international community to make peace in Gaza. Two were killed and several injured, including a priest who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, when the IDF shelled the church. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday apologized for Israel Defense Forces shelling the Catholic church, which is the only one in Gaza. He said a "stray ammunition" struck the church, and Israeli officials are investigating the matter. Local residents and displaced Gazans were using the church for shelter when it was struck.
