K-P to outsource eight primary schools
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has been working to outsource eight newly established primary schools through the public-private partnership model in the province.
It was revealed during a high level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah with administrative secretaries and senior officials to review departmental progress and issue directives aimed at strengthening governance, promoting transparency, and expediting public service delivery across the province.
During the meeting, the chief secretary announced that the implementation mechanism for the province's paperless government initiative under the E-Office system is in place, with the formal launch scheduled for April 30.
The system is currently undergoing testing, and once operational, it is expected to significantly enhance transparency, save time, and improve administrative efficiency through complete digitization.
In a key move to attract domestic and foreign investments, the chief secretary highlighted the importance of a Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) cell within the Planning and Development Department.
Lead department working groups have been notified under the SIFC investment acceleration framework. A comprehensive project inventory document, detailing investment-ready projects and sectoral priorities, is set to be launched by May 30.
The chief secretary directed departments to prioritize high-impact projects and those nearing completion to accelerate benefits to the public. Reviewing the release and utilization of development funds, the chief secretary stressed the need for timely expenditure, particularly on schemes aimed at public welfare.
A centralized project tracking system has been put in place to monitor progress on critical initiatives, with all departments instructed to ensure strict compliance with timelines. Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiatives also featured prominently in the meeting. Officials presented tourism-related PPP projects, including recreational parks and motorways.

Seven Indian-backed terrorists killed in Balochistan operations

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior on Saturday, the move stems from 'the involvement of some organizations and groups in terrorist activities in Balochistan, which are detrimental to Islamic faith, the sovereignty of Pakistan, and its customary traditions'. The notification further stated that the new designation is intended to reflect 'the true nature and ideology' of these groups and their 'nefarious designs' sponsored by India. 'All government entities are directed to start the above practice immediately,' the notification said, underscoring a concerted effort to reframe the narrative around insurgent violence in the province. The announcement came as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accused India of escalating indirect aggression after what he described as its defeat in a recent security operation dubbed 'Marka-e-Haq'. Accusing India of intensifying a proxy terrorism campaign in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan, he said, 'India, after suffering strategic setbacks, has resorted to indirect aggression'. 'But Pakistan will thwart all such nefarious designs and stand resolute against Fitna al Hindustan and its proxies.'

JI condemns KE in citywide protests
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) staged citywide protests on Monday against K-Electric's (KE's) load shedding, approval of a harsh multi-year tariff, and recovery of line losses from ordinary consumers. Demonstrations were held at K-E's Integrated Business Centers (IBCs) and 11 other key locations, with protesters raising slogans and carrying placards against KE, NEPRA, the government nexus, and authorities, while district chiefs and other officials addressed the assemblies. At a protest outside Liaquatabad Post Office, JI Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan, stated that citizens of the city are enduring hardships due to long hours of load shedding amid sweltering heat. He stated that, in Malir, under JI, a sit-in has continued at a KE IBC for 14 consecutive days, but he wants to clarify that JI has no personal enmity with anyone, and struggles for the citizens.

PM replies to queries in defamation suit

Photo: ISPR The cross-examination of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif continued on Monday in the Rs10 billion defamation case, he had filed against PTI founder Imran Khan over the latter's claim that Shehbaz offered him bribe for withdrawing the Panama papers case. Shehbaz appeared in the Lahore district court via a video link. He replied to the queries of Imran's counsel which revolved around Shehbaz's affidavit, content, its institution, stamps, attestation and some other aspects of the case. Shehbaz told the court that the then prime minister Imran Khan had not made those accusations in front of him but he seemed to be making these allegations on TV programmes.
