Incentive prize for toppers under SC, SEBC categories in Class X, XII board exams raised by up to Rs 20,000
The state government, under the ongoing 'Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Incentive Prize' scheme, has increased the award amount by Rs 20,000 for first three toppers of state board Class 10 and 12 exams under the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) categories.
From Rs 31,000, the incentive prize for students securing first position at the state level has been increased to Rs 51,000. Similarly, for second position it has been increased from Rs 21,000 to Rs 41,000, and from Rs 11,000 to Rs 31,000 for the third place .
The incentive will be implemented from 2025-26 as a budget allocation of Rs 53 lakh has been approved. The hike announced by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Bhanuben Babariya states, 'With the aim of developing academic competitiveness among the students of Scheduled Castes and Socially and Educationally Backward Classes and enabling more students to achieve academic development, the 'Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Incentive Prize' scheme has been implemented. The amount of incentive prizes given to the students has been increased, under which the students, who get the first three ranks in the General, Science, Vocational and Post-Basic streams in Class 12 and Class 10 at the state level have been increased by Rs 20,000.'
In addition, the student who comes first at the district level in Class 10 and 12 were previously Rs 6,000, which will now be increased to Rs 15,000. For the second place, it has been increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 11,000 and Rs 9,000 for third. The prize money will be given to students through DBT method.
Students taking board exams at the end of the academic year (March-April) will benefit from this scheme, and those who pass the exams taken in the middle of the academic year (October-November) will not. In addition, in case more than one Class 10 or 12 student secures the same rank with the same score, both will be given the prize.

PM Modi announces additional aid for families hit by cross-border shelling
Katra (J&K), June 6 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced additional financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for families whose houses were severely damaged due to cross-border shelling from Pakistan. Addressing a public gathering here, the Prime Minister stated that households suffering severe damage due to cross-border firing will now receive Rs 2 lakh, while those with partially damaged homes will be granted Rs 1 lakh. This assistance is in addition to the support already provided earlier by the government, an official statement said. He emphasised the government's commitment to the well-being of those affected, noting that families who lost loved ones in the shelling have already received appointment letters for government aid. Recognising the hardship faced by over 2,000 families impacted by the shelling, PM Modi reaffirmed the government's solidarity with the victims, saying, 'Their pain is the nation's pain.' Stating that the government recognises border residents as the nation's frontline protectors, Modi said, 'Over the past decade, unprecedented efforts have been made to strengthen development and security in border districts'. Highlighting key initiatives, Modi said that approximately 10,000 new bunkers have been constructed, which played a critical role in safeguarding lives during the aftermath of Operation Sindoor. He also announced the formation of two new border battalions for the Jammu and Kashmir division, further enhancing security operations in the region. Additionally, he said two dedicated women battalions have also been successfully established, reinforcing defence capabilities and empowering women in the armed forces. Emphasising the significant infrastructure development taking place in India's international border regions, particularly in challenging terrains, the Prime Minister announced that hundreds of crores are being invested to improve connectivity and security. 'The Kathua-Jammu Highway is being upgraded into a six-lane expressway, while the Akhnoor-Poonch Highway is undergoing widening to facilitate smoother travel. Under the Vibrant Village Programme, development initiatives in border villages have been accelerated, ensuring better living conditions and opportunities for residents,' the Prime Minister said. He mentioned that 400 villages in Jammu and Kashmir, previously lacking all-weather connectivity, are now being linked with 1,800 km of newly constructed roads. He announced allocation of over Rs 4,200 crore for these infrastructure projects, reinforcing economic growth and regional development in border areas. Day after Naxal leader Sudhakar's death, encounter breaks out in same area in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur
BIJAPUR: A day after top Naxal leader Sudhakar was eliminated by security forces in Indravati National Park area in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, an encounter broke out in the same area on Friday, an official said. The encounter is part of the same anti-Naxal operation underway since Wednesday by personnel from the state police's Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG) as well as the CRPF's specialised unit CoBRA, he added. Intermittent firing between security forces and the Maoist ultras is underway, the official said, adding further details were awaited. Senior Maoist leader Narasimha Chalam alias Sudhakar, who had a bounty of Rs 40 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Bijapur district on Thursday. Originally hailing from Andhra Pradesh, the 67-year-old Sudhakar was involved in indoctrination and radicalization of youth and also responsible for numerous Naxal attacks in Chhattisgarh, resulting in the death of civilians and security personnel, police said. The killing of Sudhakar, a member of the Maoists' Central Committee, comes a fortnight after CPI (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju (70) was neutralised by security forces in the Bastar region. Basavaraju was gunned down in Narayanpur on May 21.

PM flags off Katra-Srinagar train, dedicates USBRL project to nation
Katra (J&K), June 6 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dedicated the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project to the nation by flagging off the Vande Bharat train to Srinagar from Katra railway station in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. Modi was accompanied by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The PM flagged off Vande Bharat in line with his commitment to boost rail infrastructure and connectivity in the region. The 272 km-long USBRL project, built with around Rs 43,780 crore includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country aiming to transform regional mobility and driving socio-economic integration. This is the first visit of the Prime Minister to J&K during ongoing Operation Sindoor and post April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a local were killed. Of the total 272km of the USBRL project, 209km was commissioned in phases with the first one (118 km Qazigund-Baramulla section) commissioned in October 2009, followed by (18km) Banihal-Qazigund in June 2013, (25km) Udhampur-Katra in July 2014 and (48.1 km) Banihal-Sangaldan stretch in February last year. The work on the 46 km Sangaldan-Reasi section was also completed in June last year, leaving a 17- km stretch between Reasi and Katra that was also completed in February-March this year. That led to the start of trial runs, including that of Vande Bharat. The Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express will have features like a heating system, anti-spall layers, and automatic doors. The train is designed to operate smoothly in cold weather, down to minus 20 degrees Celsius. The Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat will run on the world's highest railway arch bridge and Anji Bridge built on the Chenab in Reasi district. UNI VBH PRS
