Obsessed with having a son, Gujarat man kills seven-year-old daughter; arrested after wife reveals truth
The accused, Vijay Solanki, a resident of Chelawat village in Kapadvanj taluka, was arrested after his wife, Anjanaben Solanki, revealed the truth days after the incident. The murder took place on the night of Guru Purnima, July 10, during a supposed family outing to the Deepeshwari Mata temple.
Police said Vijay had always been unhappy about not having a son and often showed dislike towards his daughters.
Despite having two daughters, Bhumika, 7, and a three-year-old, his obsession with having a male child eventually led him to commit the murder.
On the night of the crime, Vijay took Anjanaben and Bhumika on a motorbike to the temple. After a rushed visit, he insisted they return immediately. As they passed the Waghawat bridge over the Narmada Canal, he stopped the bike and lured his crying daughter to the canal's edge under the pretence of showing her fish.
Before Anjanaben could react, Vijay threw the child into the canal. He threatened his wife with divorce if she ever spoke of the incident.
The following day, Bhumika's body was discovered in the canal, and an accidental death case was initially filed. Being threatened by her husband, Anjanaben told police that Bhumika had fallen into the canal.

Four held for robbing wholesaler in Delhi
Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 26 (PTI) The Delhi Police has arrested four youths for allegedly robbing a wholesaler of Rs 92,000 cash in northwest Delhi's Tri Nagar area, an official said on Saturday. The accused were identified as Vijay (22), Shivam (21), Shravan (22), and Om Jee (21). According to police, the incident occurred on July 7 when the youths barged into the store at around 4 pm, threatened the complainant and his associate at gunpoint and with a knife. They fled with Rs 92,000 cash and a wallet containing identity documents, police said. The accused were apprehended from near Nanak Piau Gurudwara in Model Town. Police also recovered a pistol with two cartridges, two knives, and a stolen motorcycle used in the commission of the crime, a senior police officer said. A case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Arms Act was registered at Keshav Puram Police Station. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the robbery and admitted that they had committed the crime for easy money. Vijay was previously involved in a robbery case, police added. Mom, partner get life till death for murdering kids in 2018
CHENNAI: Seven years after a 33-year-old woman and her partner were arrested by the Kundrathur police for poisoning her two children to death, a special court in Kancheepuram, on Thursday, convicted and sentenced them to life imprisonment until death and slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on each of them. The investigation carried out by the Kundrathur police found the children were killed by the woman, V Abhirami, as she felt they posed a stumbling block to her plan to live with her partner Meenakshisundaram, alias Sundaram, a vendor at a biriyani shop. The duo had hatched a conspiracy, and Abhirami poisoned the milk fed to the kids, causing their death. The complaint regarding the death of the children — Ajay and Karunika, aged six and four respectively — was filed by Abhirami's husband Vijay, a private bank employee and a resident of Kundrathur, in September 2018. The police said the woman had planned to elope with Sundaram after killing her children and husband, and that she had kept the poison-laced milk for Vijay as well. But, Vijay had a close shave as he didn't drink it, for he had work till late that night, the police said. Abirami and Sundaram were charged with conspiracy and murder and were arrested a few days after the case was registered. The Kundrathur police filed a charge sheet before the court after two months. As many as 25 witnesses were produced by the prosecution before the judge during the trial. The trial court found the prosecution, led by public prosecutor Sasirekha, had proved the charges beyond doubt, and convicted the duo.
