Arsonist sets fire to Pennsylvania governor's residence while Shapiro, family inside: Police
An overnight fire at the governor's residence in Pennsylvania is being investigated as arson, the Pennsylvania State Police said Sunday.
Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family were in the residence at the time of the fire, which was reported at about 2 a.m. ET.
"The Governor and his family were present in a different part of the residence. They were evacuated safely and were not injured," the state police said in a statement.
"My family and I woke up to bangs on the door from the Pennsylvania State Police after an arsonist set fire to the Governor's Residence in Harrisburg. The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire was on the scene and while they worked to put out the fire, we were evacuated from the Residence safely by Pennsylvania State Police and assisted by Capitol Police," Shapiro said in a statement.
"Thank God no one was injured and the fire was extinguished," he added.
The state police said that while the investigation is continuing, "the State Police is prepared to say at this time that this was an act of arson."
The fire caused "a significant amount of damage" to part of the residence, according to state police.
As they work to determine a suspect and motive behind the alleged arson attack, authorities are looking at whether it could have been fueled by the fact that Gov. Shapiro is Jewish and the blaze was set on the first night of Passover, a senior law enforcement official briefed on the investigation told ABC News.
Just hours before the fire, the Pennsylvania governor had posted a picture of his family's Passover Seder table on X, writing, "From the Shapiro family's Seder table to yours, happy Passover and Chag Pesach Sameach!"
The Pennsylvania State Police is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the fire.
Shapiro was elected Pennsylvania governor in 2022 and was considered as vice president for 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris before she eventually chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Shapiro served two terms as the state's attorney general before being elected governor.

Activists to rally throughout Michigan to protest parade, Trump policies
Throughout Michigan, groups are set to gather Saturday to protest various Trump administration policies and to draw attention from a military parade and festival in Washington, D.C., celebrating the Army's 250th anniversary. Fetterman hypes Israel's ‘opportunity' against Iran, blasts Dems that have ‘taken side with the regime'
Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman knocked the left wing of his party that's turned against Israel – and underscored the stakes of the Jewish state's 'once in a generation opportunity' to take on Iran. 'There's no war crimes. This just was an existential war. You can never rebuild Gaza — would you have to rebuild Gaza — if Hamas is allowed to be in force?' Fetterman (D-Pa.) told 'Real Time With Bill Maher' on Friday. 'I think that's really the truth. And our party, the Democratic Party, has lost that argument, and they've taken side with the regime that doesn't have the kind of values and live the kind of ways that we want here in our country.' 'I'm never going to be a part of the 40 trillion club, and now that's going to push our debt up to $40 trillion, I mean, it's incredibly dangerous,' Fetterman said, also noting his staunch opposition to Medicaid cuts. 'But for this, if they pass … the big, beautiful bill, that will change our nation, and that's going to impact, truly impact millions and millions of people.'

I was pretty shocked the other day to read about actual price differences caused by tariffs, and I wanted to learn specifically about how Trump voters feel about the tariffs — whether they think they're a good idea or not. So, I decided to ask Trump voters to tell me what they really think about the tariffs; and, for good measure, I turned to the answers to a post on the subreddit Ask Trump Supporters that asked, "Do Trump supporters see the new tariff policy as a smart negotiating tactic with allies, or is there concern it could backfire?" Here are some people's answers: 1."I love the idea of Trump pushing the tariffs. It will teach the consumer what is really important to be spending their money on and learn how to be conservative.
