DOJ files misconduct complaint against Judge James Boasberg over ‘improper' comments about Trump: ‘Undermined the integrity of the judiciary'
The Justice Department filed a misconduct complaint against District Judge James Boasberg on Monday, demanding that the jurist be reassigned from a migrant deportation case over 'improper' remarks he allegedly made about President Trump. 'Today at my direction, [DOJ] filed a misconduct complaint against U.S. District Court Chief Judge James Boasberg for making improper public comments about President Trump and his Administration,' Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on X. Boasberg, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, is presiding over a case involving Trump's invocation of the Alien Enemies Act to swiftly deport suspected criminal migrants. Bloomberg via Getty Images Advertisement The complaint, written by Bondi's chief of staff Chad Mizelle and sent to the Chief Judge of the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit Sri Srinivasan, refers to comments Boasberg allegedly made during a March 11 judicial conference attended by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and other jurists. 'While there, Judge Boasberg attempted to improperly influence Chief Justice Roberts and roughly two dozen other federal judges by straying from the traditional topics to express his belief that the Trump Administration would 'disregard rulings of federal courts' and trigger 'a constitutional crisis,'' Mizelle wrote, according to Fox News. 'Although his comments would be inappropriate even if they had some basis, they were even worse because Judge Boasberg had no basis — the Trump Administration has always complied with all court orders,' Mizelle continued. 'Nor did Judge Boasberg identify any purported violations of court orders to justify his unprecedented predictions.' Advertisement Boasberg, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, allegedly made the remark just days before he presided over a case involving Trump's use of the 18th-century Alien Enemies Act to swiftly deport suspected migrant gang members to a notorious maximum-security prison in El Salvador. Boasberg, 62, maintains the Trump administration violated his March 15 order to halt deportation flights to El Salvador. Mizelle referenced Boasberg's deportation flight order that has since been overturned by the Supreme Court and argued that 'Within days of those statements, Judge Boasberg began acting on his preconceived belief that the Trump Administration would not follow court orders.' 'Taken together, Judge Boasberg's words and deeds violate Canons of the Code of Conduct for United States Judges, and, erode public confidence in judicial neutrality, and warrant a formal investigation,' he wrote, asking that Boasberg be removed from the Alien Enemies Act case 'to prevent further erosion of public confidence while the investigation proceeds.' Advertisement Trump has argued that Boasberg should be impeached. REUTERS Bondi argued that Boasberg's alleged comments 'have undermined the integrity of the judiciary, and we will not stand for that.' Trump has previously slammed Boasberg as a 'Grandstander' and 'highly conflicted,' 'radical left' judge who is attempting to 'usurp' his presidential power. Nicole Griner found after Lake County home vandalized, destroyed by excavator: Deputies
The Brief Officials safely recovered previously missing Lake County woman Nicole Griner on Friday night. Her home was mysteriously vandalized and nearly destroyed by an excavator earlier in the day. Deputies found an SUV and home significantly damaged. There was also a message scrawled across the side of the house in what's believed to be spray paint. LAKE COUNTY, Fla. - A home in Lake County was mysteriously damaged – almost destroyed – and officials are now looking to figure out why, how and by whom. Home mysteriously destroyed near Clermont What we know According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), deputies received a call about damage to a Ford Expedition at a home on Pine Island Road, which is south of both Clermont and Groveland, in a remote area. When deputies arrived, they found an SUV and a manufactured home heavily damaged. Photos and videos shared with FOX 35 Orlando show the outside walls of the home completely destroyed, exposing the inside of the home. On the other side of the home, there also appears to be damage to the porch area. Officials said it appears "heavy equipment" was used to damage the home, but it's unclear what type of equipment was used nor who allegedly did it. At last check, no one had been named as a person of interest, detained or arrested in connection with the damage. Was anyone hurt? No one was at the home or on the property when Lake County deputies arrived, a spokesperson said. No injuries have been reported. A not-so-hidden message? Photos and videos reportedly taken early Friday morning show damage to the home, but no message on the side of the house. However, since then, there appears to be a message spray-painted on the side of the house. "You (expletive) with the wrong girl!" is written on one side of the house. It also features someone's name. FOX 35 Orlando has blurred the photo because of the expletive. Nicole Griner found safe The LCSO issued a missing persons bulletin late Friday for 45-year-old Nicole Griner, who lives at the home that was vandalized. Deputies said her vehicle was on the property, but she was not. She was last seen on Thursday, July 24, with her boyfriend, identified as 33-year-old Nickolis Dewitt. Both are depicted in the photo shared on the LCSO's Facebook page. Deputies shared later on Friday night that both Griner and Dewitt were found safe. What we don't know At this time, it is still unclear why the couple were reported missing and where they were found. What you can do Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the LCSO.
