Jaisalmer youth held on charges of spying for Pakistan, fourth espionage case in 2025

According to sources, Khan had earlier worked at a restaurant in the Army area two to three years ago and had recently returned for work. He had been under surveillance for some time, with his calls and movements closely monitored. On Tuesday, officials intercepted him while he was on a call with a Pakistani number.
Following Operation Sindoor, security agencies have stepped up vigilance in Rajasthan's border areas, keeping a close watch on individuals suspected of links with Pakistan. This marks the third espionage arrest since Operation Sindoor and the fourth case reported this year.
Earlier this month, the arrest of DRDO guest house manager Mahendra Prasad in Jaisalmer had raised alarm among security agencies. Investigations revealed Prasad was in touch with a Pakistani handler using the name 'Colonel AK Singh' and had shared sensitive information about scientists visiting the Chandan Field Firing Range guest house. He also allegedly provided photographs of the area and details of local activities during Operation Sindoor. He remains in police custody until August 15.
Khan's arrest adds to a series of espionage cases uncovered this year in Jaisalmer district.
On 26 March, Rajasthan Intelligence arrested Pathan Khan, a resident of Karam Ki Dhani near the Chandan Field Firing Range, under the Official Secrets Act, days before the Pahalgam terror attack.
On 28 May, investigators detained Shakoor Khan, a government employee and personal assistant to former Congress minister Saleh Mohammad, on similar charges and formally arrested him on 3 June.
With four arrests in less than five months, intelligence and security agencies remain on high alert to prevent further spying attempts in Rajasthan's sensitive border areas.

Lucknow: Commotion broke out during the CM's Janata Darbar in Lucknow on Thursday morning when a 65-year-old former Army personnel, identified as Satyavir Gujjar, walked in and claimed he had consumed some poisonous substance. Satyavir is a native of Loni in Ghaziabad. The incident occurred around 8:50am, police said. Security personnel rushed him to SPM Civil hospital where he was said to be out of danger but would remain under observation for 48 hours. In his application addressed to the CM, Satyavir described himself as a Kargil war veteran and claimed he was being targeted by the MLA for exposing irregularities on his social media page. He alleged inflated electricity bills, financial corruption, and even a conspiracy to destabilize govt. "I fought wars for the country but in my own land, I am losing," he wrote in the letter. The MLA dismissed the charges as baseless. "I don't know this person. He has a criminal background and was even jailed in a murder case with his son," Gurjar told reporters. He claimed that Satyavir had been sacked from the Army and was now attempting to illegally grab property. Police are probing the matter. China And Pakistan Agree To Launch New Economic Corridor Projects
Pakistan and China pledged to expand economic cooperation and investment under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a flagship program of China's Belt and Road Initiative, officials said. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Pakistani counterpart, Ishaq Dar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Thursday. The two sides agreed to launch new projects through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, or CPEC, a flagship program of the Belt and Road Initiative, a Pakistani government statement said. The countries did not immediately share details of the proposed projects. Called "One Belt, One Road" in Chinese, the Belt and Road Initiative has built power plants, roads, railroads and ports around the world and deepened China's relations with Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Mideast. It is a major part of Chinese President Xi Jinping's push for China to play a larger role in global affairs. Beijing has invested billions of dollars in Pakistan through CPEC, building roads, power plants and rail links to connect China's western Xinjiang region with the Arabian Sea port of Gwadar in southwest Pakistan, where some Chinese have been attacked by insurgents in recent years. The foreign ministers vowed to deepen collaboration in science, technology, industry and agriculture. Wang also urged Pakistan to ensure the safety of Chinese workers and engineers, who have come under attack by separatists in Balochistan province and elsewhere in recent years. Pakistan already has increased security for Chinese working on CPEC-related projects. China has long been one of Pakistan's key ally and financial backer, especially as Islamabad struggles with a prolonged economic crisis.
