Texas A&M's first SEC opponent reportedly facing uncertainty at QB
On Monday, 247Sports beat writer Nathan King released coach Hugh Freeze's brief quote regarding Auburn's QB uncertainty after King asked if three Auburn signal callers would see playing time during the Tigers' season-opener on the road against Baylor. The Bears return one of the better defenses in the Big 12, which could spell danger if Freeze can't decide on who will lead the offense.
'Yes. Yeah. There's strengths — you put on Ashton's film from Stanford, and he ran away from some really good teams.'
This offseason, former five-star Oklahoma starting quarterback Jackson Arnold, who has yet to live up to his prolific recruiting ranking, transferred to Auburn with the hopes of regaining his swagger and playing with one of many of us consider to be the best wide receiver duos in college football with Cam Coleman and Georgia Tech transfer Eric Singelton Jr. Stanford transfer Ashton Daniels has also leaped this preseason, earning Freeze's praise.
Still, having two elite receivers without a reliable quarterback is similar to Texas A&M's issues during the 2022 season, and the fact that Ashton Daniels and freshman Deuce Knight are neck and neck with Arnold does not sound great for the Tigers' offense.
Either way, just like Notre Dame's uncertainty as the position before the Aggies travel to South Bend on Sept. 13, Mike Elko's veteran defense could enter both game with a significant advantage in the secondary.

Former LSU football four-star quarterback loses QB battle at Syracuse
Former LSU football quarterback Rickie Collins transferred to Syracuse in December with a chance to win the starting job. During spring practice, Collins was on track to be QB1. But Syracuse dipped back into the portal and signed former Notre Dame QB Steve Angelli. With kickoff less than two weeks away, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Steve Angeli was named the starter. "Angeli, a redshirt junior, narrowly beat out LSU transfer Rickie Collins, who played well during camp. Per sources, the quarterbacks were informed of the decision early Monday morning," Thamel wrote. Syrauce is trying to replace quarterback Kyle McCord, who went to the NFL after a stellar single season with the Orange. Angeli and Collins are both Power Four-level transfers, though experience is limited. Collins spent two years at LSU, throwing just seven passes for 38 yards. Collins carried it seven times for 37 yards on the ground. All of Collins's action came when the game was already out of hand. Collins signed with LSU in 2023 as a four-star recruit. Per the Rivals Industry Rankings, Collins was the No. 17-ranked quarterback in the class and No. 13-ranked prospect in Louisiana. Despite losing the QB battle, reports of Collins' strong play in camp could mean good things for his future.

Bo Nix named to NFL Top 100 Players List after impressive rookie season
It was a bit of a surprise with the season that Bo Nix had in his rookie year with the Denver Broncos last season. On the season, Nix threw for 3,775 yards and 29 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 66%. He helped guide the Broncos to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth. They lost in the first round to the Buffalo Bills 31-7, but there was excitement for the future as the season ended. The performance of Nix during the season earned him a spot on this year's NFL Top 100 Players list at No. 64. Making the list is a great honor because it is compiled of rankings from other players around the NFL. In just one season in the league, Nix has the respect of his peers. Improvement will be needed in his second season though. The Broncos were 2-4 versus teams that made the postseason. Nix has come a long way since leaving Auburn after his third season in 2021. He had an up-and-down career while on the Plains that was met with highs and lows. He played some of his best football in that final season with the Tigers before sustaining an injury versus Mississippi State. That season, he threw for 2,293 yards and 11 touchdowns in 10 games played. Overall, he passed for 7,250 yards and 39 touchdowns over those three years. Nix would then transfer to Oregon for his final two seasons in college and showed why he was such a highly thought-of high school recruit. In two years at Oregon, Nix had 8,101 yards and 74 touchdowns. In 2023, he finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting after passing for 45 touchdowns. The Broncos then took Nix in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
