The Pahalgam attack: A deadly trigger
The situation comes after the tragic terrorist attack in Baisaran Valley, near Pahalgam, on Tuesday, which killed 26 people, most of whom were tourists. The attack has been blamed on
Pakistan-backed terrorist groups
, further straining the already volatile relations between the two countries. India has made it clear that those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowing that the perpetrators would be pursued "to the ends of the earth."
Live Events
The deadly assault, claimed by The Resistance Front (a proxy group with links to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba), marks a dramatic escalation in the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan. This attack is part of a wider pattern of cross-border terrorism that India accuses Pakistan of harbouring and supporting.

Retaliatory measures intensify
In response to the Pahalgam attack, India has not only issued strong military statements but also taken diplomatic action. The government suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, a move that directly impacts water-sharing agreements between the two nations. Additionally, India closed the Integrated Check Post at the Wagah-Attari border and cancelled visas for Pakistani nationals. These steps are seen as part of a broader strategy to isolate Pakistan on the international stage.
Cross-border skirmishes and ceasefire violations
The situation escalated further when Pakistan violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) on the nights of April 25 and 26. The Indian Army responded with small arms fire, marking the second consecutive day of cross-border exchanges. These skirmishes add another layer of tension, signalling that the situation on the border is becoming increasingly volatile.

A Powerful Signal from the Indian Military
Days after the Pahalgam attack, the Indian military issued a clear and powerful message. The Army released a chilling video with the tagline, "Always Prepared, Ever Vigilant," widely interpreted as a warning to those behind the attack. Another post included the phrase 'No Mission Too Far,' underlining India's readiness to retaliate at any time and in any place.
Meanwhile, the Indian Navy's post featured an image of warships in formation, accompanied by the phrase, "Mission Ready Anytime Anywhere Anyhow." These bold statements serve as a stark reminder that India's military is prepared for any eventuality, sending a clear message to Pakistan and those supporting the attack.
The exchange of fire along the LoC, combined with the diplomatic actions taken by India, indicates that the situation is far from stable. As both sides continue to flex their military muscles, the risk of further escalation remains high. While India seeks justice for the victims of the Pahalgam attack, the military's strong messages suggest a heightened state of alert and a commitment to protect national security.

China stands by India, firmly opposes 50% US tariff & threat to hike it: Envoy
Xu said in the face of such acts, silence or compromise only emboldens the bully. NEW DELHI: With PM Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping set to carry forward the Sino-Indian rapprochement in their upcoming meeting in Tianjin, Chinese ambassador to India Xu Feihong Thursday backed India on the issue of US tariffs saying China strongly opposed the Trump administration's move to impose 50% tariffs on India for its oil procurement from Russia. Xu said in the face of such acts, silence or compromise only emboldens the bully. "US has imposed tariffs of up to 50% on India and even threatened more. China firmly opposes it. China will firmly stand with India to uphold the multilateral trading system with WTO at its core," said the ambassador. He also said the essence of trade was to complement each other's advantages and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, not a calculation of who loses and who gains. He said trade should not become a tool for pursuing individual selfish interests. "US has long benefited gr-eatly from free trade, but now it is using tariffs as a bargaining chip to demand exorbitant prices from various countries," said Xu at an event organised by thinktanks Chintan Research Foundation and Centre for Global India Insights. "The development of China and India has not been completely smooth, but fri-endship and cooperation have always been the main theme. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Benefits of Trading Bitcoin CFDs IC Markets Learn More Undo There might be challenges, but unity and cooperation are our only options," said Xu. His remarks came ahead of Modi's first visit to China in seven years. He will be in Ti-anjin on Aug 31 for SCO summit, on the margins of which he will have bilateral meetings with Xi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders of other member-states. The ambassador called for enhancing strategic trust and focusing on common interests. He said economic and trade structures of China and India were complementary. "We'll welcome more Indian commodities into the Chinese market. India has a competitive edge in IT, software and biomedicine, while China is seeing rapid expansion in the fields of electronic manufacturing, infrastructure construction and new energy. The Chinese side welcomes more Indian enterprises to invest in China. It is also hoped that the Indian side could provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory business environment for the Chinese enterprises in India, so as to promote common development of industries and benefit the people of the two nations," he said.

Who is Joe Gebbia? Airbnb co-founder to lead Trump's digital services revamp
US President Donald Trump has picked Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia to lead a sweeping redesign of the federal government's digital services, according to two officials familiar with the on Thursday signed an executive order creating a new National Design Studio, a White House-backed unit charged with improving the look, feel and usability of government websites and digital tools. Gebbia will serve as the administration's first chief design officer, reporting directly to White House Chief of Staff Susie services should be simple, usable and designed for the people, not for bureaucrats,' Trump said in remarks before signing the order. 'This is about efficiency and design — about making government work better and cost less.' Gebbia, who joined the administration earlier this year, is now positioned to play a central role in Trump's broader effort to remake the federal bureaucracy. 'We're going to apply the same principles of usability and aesthetics that transformed Airbnb to the public sector,' Gebbia said, according to the officials. 'The goal is to make government digital services as intuitive as booking a place to stay.'The appointment builds on Trump's earlier restructuring drive, spearheaded by billionaire Elon Musk, a former adviser who led a first-wave initiative known as DOGE — short for Department of Government Efficiency. That program involved deep cuts, department closures and funding rollbacks aimed at reshaping Washington in line with Trump's political President Joe Biden had also pursued similar goals in 2021, directing agencies to modernize websites and services. But several projects were shelved after Trump returned to office, including the IRS's free online tax filing tool. 'That program is done,' former IRS Commissioner Billy Long said in July, before stepping down a month Trump's order, the National Design Studio will operate for three years before winding down. Its mission will be to help agencies reduce duplicative design costs and standardize the user experience across government platforms where citizens interact with federal services.- EndsWith inputs from ReutersTune InMust Watch
