Clemson defeats Kentucky 5-1 to advance to 3rd Super Regional in 4 seasons
Reese Basinger (17-5) earned the win in the circle, and Brooke McCubbin retired all four batters she faced to record her fourth save of the season. Freshman Marian Collins went 3-for-3 with a walk and went 8-for-9 with two walks in the three games overall. Fellow freshman Taylor Pipkins launched a three-run homer to extend Clemson's lead to 3-0, while Julia Knowler, Maddie Moore and Kylee Johnson each drove in a run.
The Tigers, the 2025 ACC Champion, advance to play No. 6 National Seed Texas (48-10) in Austin, Texas at the Red and Charline McCombs Softball Field. Dates and times of the super will be announced at a later date once all regionals are completed.
On Sunday, both programs looked to do some damage in the second inning as Clemson loaded the bases with two outs and Kentucky advanced a player to third with two outs. Both pitchers forced fly outs to left field to end the inning unscathed.
The Tigers broke open the scoring in the top of the third inning off of Julia Knowler's program-record 18th double of the year. She drove in Alex Brown, who singled and advanced on a wild pitch earlier that inning. The Wildcats tried to respond in the bottom of the frame after once again getting a runner on third, but Basinger sat Hallie Mitchell down with her second inning-ending strikeout to leave her stranded. Basinger finished the day with three strikeouts, all of which were the final out of their respective innings (first, third and fourth).
Clemson extended its lead in the fourth after Collins and Pipkins delivered at the plate. Collins drew a five-pitch walk to leadoff the inning, and Pipkins blasted her fourth home run of the year 232 feet out of left center to make it 3-0 with no outs. Senior Maddie Moore delivered an RBI double down the right field line to score Brown to make it 4-0 after four. This extended Moore's program-record RBI count to 66, while Brown extended her program-record runs scored count to 66.
Kentucky got one back in the bottom of the sixth to chase Basinger, bringing in McCubbin. The Tiger hurler got Ella Emmert swinging to limit the damage.
The Tigers tacked on a run in the seventh, loading the bases with nobody out, and Macey Cintron scored from third on a Kylee Johnson fielder's choice.
Eight pitches were all that were needed for McCubbin to retire the bottom of the seventh with three groundouts to seal the 5-1 victory for the Tigers.

How many five-star recruits will LSU football sign in its 2026 class?
LSU football is aiming to sign the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in 2026. LSU already has two consensus five-star commits, but LSU will need a couple more to win the recruiting title. In 2025, LSU signed two recruits ranked as five-stars in the Rivals Industry Rankings. But LSU left talent on the table. Five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood and five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore were both LSU commits at one point before flipping to Michigan and Oregon, respectively. LSU is looking for a stronger finish to the recruiting cycle in 2026. So, just how many five-stars will LSU sign in 2026? Let's start with the two five-stars already committed. Wide receiver Tristen Keys and defensive tackle Lamar Brown currently headline the LSU class. Per the Rivals Industry Rankings, Keys is the No. 7-ranked player in the class and No. 1 at his position. Brown sits No. 2 overall in the Industry Rankings, but ESPN slots the Louisiana product as the No. 1 player in the country. For LSU to gain another five-star, the Tigers don't have to add a new commitment. There's a good chance that at least one of LSU's current commits gets a bump. Defenders Richard Anderson and Trenton Henderson are the obvious candidates. Henderson ranks No. 36 in the Rivals Industry Rankings and already has a fifth-star from 247Sports. With a big senior year, Henderson could enter the consensus five-star status. The same could be said for Anderson, who has flirted with five-star status throughout his recruitment. Expect at least one of those players to earn star No. 5 by signing day. Then we have the players LSU still wants to add. The top uncommitted recruit left on LSU's board is five-star offensive lineman Darius Gray. The Tigers have gone back and forth with South Carolina for Gray's services, but South Carolina is trending. LSU is right there, though. Gray is the No. 1-ranked interior offensive lineman in the Rivals Industry Rankings. At quarterback, LSU is still pushing for Texas commit Dia Bell. Bell is the No. 1-ranked QB in the country and would be a massive addition to LSU's class, but the Tigers' chances of a flip are slim. Still, don't count LSU out. Verdict: How many five-star recruits will LSU football sign in 2026? I think LSU holds on to Keys and Brown, and both players retain five-star status throughout the recruitment process. The most likely scenario is LSU finishing with three five-stars. Whether it's a commitment from Gray or Henderson getting a rankings bump.

No. 4 Clemson's experience makes the Tigers the ACC favorite. Can anyone challenge them?
No. 4 Clemson won so much over more than a decade that it felt like a step back when the Tigers didn't reach 10 wins two years ago in the first of back-to-back four-loss seasons. Still, the Tigers are the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference champions and coming off a trip to the College Football Playoff. Experience from that run is part of why the Tigers are the runaway preseason pick to finish atop the ACC again. 'Experience, as they say, doesn't come at a discount,' coach Dabo Swinney said. Clemson won at least 10 games from 2011-2022, including two national championships and eight ACC titles, before a nine-win year in 2023. The Tigers (10-4) beat SMU for last year's title. 'I think our mentality is, man, we're keeping our head down, just kind of keeping it low,' said quarterback Cade Klubnik, the preseason ACC player of the year. Clemson returns four Associated Press All-ACC picks from last year, including first-team offensive lineman Blake Miller and two defensive linemen (Peter Woods and T.J. Parker) ranked in the top three among returners at their position nationally by Pro Football Focus. Overall, Clemson held 11 of 27 spots on the preseason all-ACC team. No other team held more than three. If not Clemson, then who? The ACC has two other teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 with No. 10 Miami and No. 16 SMU. Heading west Boston College, Duke, FSU, UNC, Pittsburgh and Virginia are this year's teams to touch all four U.S. continental time zones for a league road trip in Year 2 of westward expansion. California hosts the Blue Devils (Oct. 4), Tar Heels (Oct. 17) and Cavaliers (Nov. 1). Stanford hosts the Eagles (Sept. 13), Seminoles (Oct. 18) and Panthers (Nov. 1). That would leave Clemson and Georgia Tech as the only ACC teams yet to travel to California. Both go next year, the Tigers to Cal and the Yellow Jackets to Stanford. Marquee matchups The league gets immediate measuring-stick matchups. Week 1 features LSU visiting Clemson, Alabama visiting Florida State, TCU visiting UNC and Georgia Tech visiting Colorado. There are also Atlanta games with Syracuse meeting Tennessee and Virginia Tech facing South Carolina. Key conference games include Clemson visiting Georgia Tech (Sept. 13), hosting SMU (Oct. 18) and traveling to Louisville (Nov. 14). Miami hosts Louisville (Oct. 17) and visits SMU (Nov. 1), while SMU hosts Louisville (Nov. 22). The ACC title game is Dec. 6 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
