Gabbia: ‘Theo Hernandez didn't need to apologise' to Milan

Yahoo20-02-2025

Matteo Gabbia insists Theo Hernandez 'didn't even need' to apologise to his Milan teammates after the costly red card in the Champions League play-off. 'Theo has all our support.'
The Rossoneri are still smarting after their unexpected Champions League play-off exit to Feyenoord, having lost the first leg 1-0 and then seen Theo Hernandez sent off during the decider.
'It was not easy, but we talked and realised the only way forward at this moment is to work and give our all,' Gabbia told MilanNews.it at an event.
'There is a long season ahead, we're still in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, so we do have objectives and the moral duty to give our all for ourselves and the fans.'
Theo Hernandez sent out a public apology after that foolish red card, but did he do it in private to the team too?
'Yes, straight after the game he apologised to the squad. In my view, he didn't even need to do it, but I know how much he cares about Milan, the fans and everything around this club,' explained Gabbia.
'He was really down. He is a champion, we know he had an off day, but also had so many positive days that allowed us to win games and trophies.
'Theo has all our support, letting him realise that he made a mistake, but there is nothing more to add. He has Milan in his heart and will certainly prove that in future.'
Sergio Conceicao and special advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic both said that Milan need to find more consistency, so what is going wrong within this group?
'The coach is very honest with us on what we need to improve. Zlatan, and the club, have always been by our side in good and bad. Zlatan spoke and obviously I cannot tell you what he said in the locker room, because these situations should remain between us,' concluded Gabbia.
'I just want you to know the club always supports us, in positive and negative moments.'
With the exit of Milan, Juventus and Atalanta from the Champions League play-offs, leaving only Inter, it is practically guaranteed that Serie A will lose its fifth slot in the tournament for next season.
With that in mind, only the top four will qualify and it is going to be a tight battle including the Rossoneri to secure that spot.

Iran Superstar Plays Down Exit Speculation: 'I Have A Contract With Inter'

Iran Superstar Plays Down Exit Speculation: 'I Have A Contract With Inter' Iran international Mehdi Taremi addressed his future at Inter Milan after today's 3-0 win over North Korea. Speaking to the press after the game via FCInter1908, Taremi confirmed he has no intention of leaving San Siro. Advertisement Mehdi Taremi signed a multi-year contract last summer after leaving Porto as a free agent. Indeed, despite receiving offers from across the continent, he chose the Nerazzurri colors. However, his first season in Serie A didn't go as expected. Forced to play second fiddle to Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, he only made seven league starts. Moreover, the 32-year-old scored an unenviable three goals across 43 appearances in all competitions. For further context, his only goal in Serie A came from the penalty spot. Therefore, rumors surrounding his future have quickly gained momentum at the end of the season. Advertisement Yet, Taremi has no doubt and wants to stay Inter. Furthermore, he registered a goal and an assist as Iran trounced North Korea 3-0 in their final qualifying fixture. After the game, he spoke to the press, offering an update on his future at Giuseppe Meazza. 'I have a contract with Inter, and if they allow me, I will stay with this team,' he admitted. Though it wasn't a memorable season for Taremi and Inter, overall, there's still a place for him in this team. Meanwhile, Marko Arnautovic will soon sever ties with the Nerazzurri as the club refused to offer him fresh terms. However, Inter may sign two new strikers in the summer, with Ange-Yoan Bonny and Rasmus Hojlund topping their wishlist.

West Ham have tried to insert themselves into the situation but the deal will cost a total fee of €25 million for Napoli and that will include bonuses that fixed and varied. Sports Seriously Yunus Musah looks to be on the move, though the AC Milan midfielder won't be leaving Serie A. According to multiple reports, Musah is on the brink of joining Italian champion Napoli in a move worth around €25 million. Napoli coach Antonio Conte is said to be an admirer of the 22-year-old, who looks to be part of a revamped midfield that is also set to include former Man City star Kevin De Bruyne. Musah will help replace Philip Billing, who was on loan from Bournemouth this past season and will not be retained. Musah has spent two seasons with Milan after joining from Valencia in 2023. The midfielder earned plenty of minutes with the Rossoneri, but never completely found his footing during his time at the club. The U.S. international managed 40 appearances in all competitions last season, playing a variety of positions including right back, right winger and central midfield. Though he was at times a lock starter, Musah's minutes declined over the final weeks of the 2024-25 campaign. He was removed twice as a tactical sub in a four-game span in March and April. Musah is set to trade Serie A's eighth-place finisher for its champion, swapping a season with no European competition for Champions League play. It will be a welcome boost for his USMNT chances. Musah was set to be on the Gold Cup roster this summer, but requested to be removed due to a personal issue. Musah has 46 caps with the USMNT, including starts in all four of the team's games at the 2022 World Cup.
