3 secret Minecraft mechanics you probably didn't know

Minecraft is one of the most popular games of all time, and it continues to evolve with new upgrades and features. There are various mechanics you can employ inside the game. They range from simple (fighting, mining) to complex (nether portal mechanisms, redstone ticks).
Aside from the basic ones that you may already be familiar with, the game also includes a few secrets or more obscure elements. These mechanisms are rarely employed, and only a tiny percentage of veterans and experienced players may be familiar with them.
Here are 3 secret Minecraft mechanics that you may not be aware of.

Here are the secret Minecraft mechanics (Image via Mojang)
1) The Southeast Rule
The Southeast Rule is a subtle mechanic that is easily missed. However, once you notice it, you can't unsee it.
Essentially, Minecraft has a weird preference for south and east directions for various things.
A common example is that most entities spawned from spawn eggs face south or east. Besides that, you also end up facing south when you spawn into a new world. Another would be that the TNT cannons fire farther when they are facing in either of the two specific directions.
Although Mojang has patched some of these activities, the particular connection is quite uncanny.
2) Quasi-connectivity
Quasi-connectivity is an extremely special Redstone mechanic in Minecraft. It enables you to power blocks like droppers and pistons even without a direct Redstone signal.
Here's what happens: certain blocks, like pistons, can receive power from blocks they're not touching. They check for power sources in locations that seem completely illogical, including the block diagonally above them or two spaces away. It's like your redstone components reach out to grab power from thin air.
This Redstone mechanic is something that most beginners will surely not be aware of. However, some veteran players will have already used this special connectivity in their builds.
3) Crawling
The regular movement in Minecraft involves all the basic functions of moving around. Nevertheless, you might not be aware that the game also features a special Crawling function, enabling you to navigate through a one-block gap without having to break the other blocks.
Getting into crawl mode in Minecraft is pretty straightforward. All you have to do is get under a trapdoor or swim into a one-block space. You will then automatically end up in the prone position and will be able to move inside that one block space.
To make this mechanic even more fun, you can build secret passages and add them to your builds. This specific feature has been in the Java edition for a while, but the Bedrock version only received it recently in 2023.

Battlefield 6 Rush mode new change explained

Image via Electronic Arts. Battlefield 6 open beta second weekend is here and since the beginning of it, the game saw a massive surge of players. The game has already peaked at a total of 408,754 players in the last 24 hours. The main reason behind this continuous outbreak is surely the brand new features in the second open beta weekend. Over half-a-million players played this game in the previous weekend, but most of them have come up again to try out the new modes, maps, and rewards. Among all the new stuff, the highly awaited Rush mode has gone through a change, just after being launched a day ago. Battlefield 6 implements new changes to the Rush mode Rush is one of the most popular game modes in the history of the Battlefield franchise. Its absence played a major part in the disastrous performance of Battlefield 2042. However, DICE didn't take any risk this time, as this fan-favorite game mode has recently been added in Battlefield 6 with the launch of its second open beta weekend. However, instead of being super happy, fans became a bit disappointed seeing the new version of their favorite Rush mode. Yes, BF6's Rush mode was a lot different than the ones in the previous installments. That is why, to bring back the old vibe, the developers have imposed a change that might fancy the Battlefield veterans. In Rush, a team of Defenders stop the Attackers from destroying some M-COM military communication stations by detonating bombs. This bomb takes some time to explode after being planted on the site. Now, initially this countdown felt way too long for the Battlefield 6 fans. That is why the developers have reduced that countdown timer from 45 seconds to 30 seconds. However, the game still lacks a lot of classic characteristics which DICE needs to change at any cost. For instance, previously the Rush mode used to feature 32 players in each team. But now it has become a 12vs12 game mode, which might be annoying for the OG Battlefield fans. Not only that, the new Rush mode feels cramped and results in chaotic engagement, whereas the traditional mode had thoughtful spacing between objectives and offered multiple strategies. But the developers have assured the fans that they will continue to monitor all the requests. So, fans can expect more highly wanted changes for sure, at least when it gets released on October 10, 2025. Read More: How can PS5 players earn an exclusive skin in Battlefield 6 Beta? How can PS5 players earn an exclusive skin in Battlefield 6 Beta?

Image via Electronic Arts. Battlefield 6 second open beta weekend kicked in yesterday. There was never a doubt that just like the first weekend, the second one would also thrash the player charts with ease. As per SteamDB, BF6 notched up over 400k players in the last 24 hours. With so much new content in the second weekend like Rush mode, the Empire State map, and many more, Battlefield 6 fans are on a roll right now. Not only the brand new contents, PS5 fans can get an exclusive skin as well. But there is a catch. How to get the PS5-exclusive skin in Battlefield 6 beta? Battlefield 6 open beta second weekend is again stacking up huge player counts, but this time, the beta version has shown several issues . Many players complained that they had to wait for a long time in the matchmaking queue to enter any mode, or some even couldn't access the party system properly. But besides all of these, Battlefield 6 has so much to offer to every player. For instance, PS5 players can claim an exclusive Soldier skin, that too without spending a single penny. However, the catch is that PS5 players need to have any kind of active PlayStation Plus subscription in order to avail this deal. Along with the skin, PS Plus members will also grant themselves double XP as well, which will indeed help them in leveling up faster. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Doorstep Car Pickup and Instant Payment Cars24 - Sell Your Car Sell Now Undo Players having an active subscription will instantly become eligible for this offer, as there is no separate process to claim them. PlayStation players already need an active PS Plus subscription to play the multiplayer modes of Battlefield 6. So, it means they have already availed these two rewards for themselves. However, players need to keep in mind that the Soldier Skin will be given away on the day of BF 6's full release, that means on October 10, 2025. But the double XP benefit can be claimed instantly. PS5 players should hurry if they haven't yet logged in to Battlefield 6 yet, because these offers will be available until the second weekend of the open beta phase, which is concluding on August 17, 2025, at 4 AM ET.
