Apple TV+ drops 'terrifying' first trailer The Blacklist creator's explosive new thriller
The Blacklist boss has stepped away from the world of Red Reddington with Apple TV+ unveiling the first teaser trailer for his next thriller.
Located in Alaska's remote wilderness, The Last Frontier is a 10-part drama making its worldwide debut with its opening two episodes landing on Friday, October 10, on Apple TV+.
The official synopsis states: "The Last Frontier follows Frank Remnick (Clarke), the lone US marshal in charge of the quiet, rugged barrens of Alaska.
"Remnick's jurisdiction is turned upside down when a prison transport plane crashes in the remote wilderness, setting free dozens of violent inmates.
"Tasked with protecting the town he's vowed to keep safe, he begins to suspect the crash wasn't an accident, but the first step of a well-crafted plan with far-reaching and devastating implications."
To celebrate the announcement of its release date, the streaming service has dropped its first chilling trailer which takes place on an aircraft packed with shackled prisoners.
As one examines his restraints and another mutters to himself, a third is spotted seated alone at the rear, masked and sporting headphones.
A blast then tears through the quiet with fire engulfing the aircraft's side.
An external shot reveals one of the wings ablaze before cutting back to the convicts, now shrieking in terror as the aircraft judders and oxygen masks drop down.
In the trailer's closing scenes, the aircraft appears moments away from crashing as it skims treetops and plummets towards the snow-blanketed terrain.
The high-octane series has been developed by Richard D'Ovidio, who penned The Call, alongside The Blacklist mastermind Jon Bokenkamp.
The Blacklist enjoyed a remarkable 10-year run on NBC, featuring James Spader as infamous criminal Raymond "Red" Reddington, before concluding in 2023.
The Last Frontier will feature Zero Dark Thirty and Terminator star Jason Clarke, who is also serving as executive producer.

Beloved Law & Order star returning to SVU's 27th season
On Saturday, Christopher Meloni revealed he was reuniting with his former Law & Order partner Mariska Hargitay for Special Victims Unit's 27th season, which premieres September 25 on NBC. The 64-year-old Emmy nominee shared Instagram snaps of the pair posing with their former co-star Dann Florek, on the New York set of the longest-running US prime-time drama in history. 'Hangin' with friends on a Friday [night],' Christopher - who boasts 3.7M social media followers - captioned the slideshow. Last Monday, Meloni responded to X user @kathyrcostello who demanded his character NYPD Detective Elliot Stabler kiss Mariska's character NYPD Captain Olivia Benson during their next onscreen reunion: 'I'm f***ing trying!' Last year, the longtime castmates guest-starred on each other's Law & Order spin-offs for a two-part crossover when Benson enlisted Stabler for help after her son was threatened. 'I knew quickly that we had this kind of magical chemistry,' Hargitay recalled to TODAY on January 9 of their first meeting in 1999. 'Chris and I are polar opposites in terms of who we are as people. And yet, there was this yin-yang. So when they paired us [during the audition], I was like, "Oh, this is done."' Christopher and the 61-year-old Emmy winner even became family in 2001 when she was appointed godmother of he and his wife Sherman Williams' daughter Sophia. Meloni and the 64-year-old retired production designer also welcomed 21-year-old son Dante via surrogate during their 30-year marriage. The IF actor abruptly left creator Dick Wolf's police procedural in 2011 due to a contract dispute, but returned as 'recurring' in 2020 before scoring his own spin-off Organized Crime in 2021. On July 2, Christopher shared a curious time-lapse clip of his head being encased in prosthetic make-up for special effects on a future mystery project. It led one scared fan to comment: 'Omg wait no - does this mean they need a replica of Stabler's head for a special effect? Please don't kill off America's sweetheart!' Aside from Meloni and Florek - Law & Order: SVU's upcoming season, led by returning showrunner Michele Fazekas, will also feature franchise vets B.D. Wong, Dean Winters, Peter Scanavino, and Octavio Pisano. The Washington, D.C.-born actor's spin-off Organized Crime has ominously not been picked up by Peacock for a sixth season, but NBC will re-air the 10-episode fifth season starting September 25. Regardless, Christopher is clearly in demand as has signed on to two more projects last month. Last Monday, Meloni responded to X user @kathyrcostello who demanded his character NYPD Detective Elliot Stabler kiss Mariska's character NYPD Captain Olivia Benson during their next onscreen reunion: 'I'm f***ing trying!' Hargitay recalled to TODAY on January 9 of their first meeting in 1999: 'I knew quickly that we had this kind of magical chemistry. Chris and I are polar opposites in terms of who we are as people. And yet, there was this yin-yang. Please don't kill off America's sweetheart!' On July 23, Deadline reported that Meloni will portray an NFL head coach in Dan Fogelman's untitled football drama for Hulu. On July 14, Variety reported that the University of Colorado-Boulder grad joined the ensemble cast of Matt Spicer's real estate comedy Little Brother for Netflix alongside John Cena and Eric Andre. Christopher will also in Adam Rifkin's Atlanta-set psychedelic stoner comedy Toad alongside Katt Williams, James Franco, and Tiffany Haddish.

Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up Arnie told NBC's Seth Meyers: 'Patrick blew it out of the water. Before, all the people came up to me in the gym and said 'Arnold get in touch with me, especially girls. 'And as soon as White Lotus came out, this girl says: 'here is my contact'. I said: 'well thank you'. She replied: 'No, no, no, for Patrick'. 'Now everything is about Patrick, Patrick, Patrick.' But the reality is Netflix bosses pulled the plug after Fubar had poor ratings. ‘Explosive' thriller from Slow Horses writer with A-list stars unveils first look
Another sensational thriller from Slow Horses author Mick Herron is about to come to life on Apple TV+ An intriguing first-look at an upcoming thriller featuring some well-known names in front of and behind the camera has just been revealed. From bestselling author Mick Herron, the mastermind crime writer behind the hit Slow Horses series, comes another riveting drama on Apple TV+. Set for release later this year, Down Cemetery Road pairs two A-listers of the British screen for an eight-part descent into conspiracy and paranoia. Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson are teaming up for the new series, which is poised to keep countless streamers glued to their screens this autumn. Morwenna Banks has penned the new thriller, having previously written for Slow Horses as well as Sky drama Funny Woman. A synopsis for Down Cemetery Road reads: 'When a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb and a girl disappears in the aftermath, neighbour Sarah Tucker (Wilson) becomes obsessed with finding her and enlists the help of private investigator Zoë Boehm (Thompson). 'Zoë and Sarah suddenly find themselves in a complex conspiracy that reveals people long believed dead are still among the living, while the living are fast joining the dead.' This wildly different premise is worlds away from Slow Horses, which sees Gary Oldman's boorish Jackson Lamb head up a team of MI5 rejects who become tangled up in high-stakes missions. Nevertheless, it's bound to excite fans of Apple TV+'s popular thriller as another one of Herron's addictive page-turners comes to life. The first images from the drama feature the duo in the midst of the action on a beach, as well as individual shots of Zoë and Sarah. Wilson's character Sarah appears to be some sort of artist as she's decked out in a blue jumpsuit and a headlamp, while Thompson is taking on a stylish new look with short hair and a leather jacket. Rounding out the main cast are a number of familiar faces from British TV, including Sherwood's Adeel Akhtar, Utopia's Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Tom Goodman-Hill of Baby Reindeer fame and Darren Boyd from Outlaws. Tom Riley, Adam Godley, Sinead Matthews, Ken Nwosu, Fehinti Balogun, Aiysha Hart and, finally, Outlander's Steven Cree are taking on supporting roles. Fans just have a little while longer to wait as the new drama will premiere with its first two episodes in October. Further plot details and a trailer will be kept under wraps for the time being, but stay tuned for updates.
