UAE aid trucks to Gaza 'looted' in area under Israeli control, says mission

Khaleej Times24-05-2025

Trucks carrying UAE aid to Gaza were "looted" and subjected to theft inside an area under Israeli control, according to a statement by Operation Gallant Knight 3.
Out of the 24 trucks allowed to enter, only one truckload actually reached the warehouses. "This was due to the Israeli army's insistence on imposing unsafe crossing routes", the statement added.
Operation Gallant Knight 3 expressed its deep regret and strong condemnation of these attacks, which deprive the residents of the Gaza Strip of their legitimate right to food and basic humanitarian aid

Israel vows to prevent arrival of Freedom Flotilla as ship nears Gaza

Israel 's Defence Minister Israel Katz has instructed the army to stop a high-profile group of pro-Palestine activists on board the ' Freedom Flotilla ' from entering Gaza. The flotilla, which plans to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza as well as raise awareness about the dire situation there, has 12 people on board including public figures such as climate activist Greta Thunberg and French-Palestinian politician Rima Hassan. The possibility of an imminent clash is grabbing attention worldwide and stirring memories of previous instances over the years during which Israeli forces prevented activists from approaching Gaza by sea. In 2010, nine activists were killed after Israeli naval forces stormed the Mavi Marmara ship. 'To the anti-Semitic Greta and her friends, I say clearly: You should turn back – because you will not reach Gaza,' Mr Katz said in a statement released by his office. He said Israel 'will not allow anyone to violate the naval blockade on Gaza – the purpose of which is first and foremost to prevent the transfer of weapons to Hamas, a murderous terrorist organisation that holds our hostages and commits war crimes'. Israel's naval blockade of Gaza has been broken by activists before, with several successful instances in 2008. The most recent vessel that made the attempt, Conscience, was hit by drones, with activists widely blaming Israel although the military has not claimed responsibility. Activists on board the Madleen have been posting frequent messages on social media. 'When governments fail, we sail,' read one post by crew member Thiago Avila. 'This mission should not exist. It should have been done by governments, by international organisations. We only need to do this because governments are failing Palestine.' On Saturday the crew reported reaching Egypt after a delay caused by rescuing four migrants who threw themselves overboard a vessel in distress, in a bid to escape Libya's coastguard, according organisers.

Israel orders military to stop aid boat with 'antisemite' Greta Thunberg reaching Gaza

Israel has ordered the military to block an aid boat headed for Gaza with 12 activists on board, including Swedish campaigner Greta Thunberg. "I have instructed the military to prevent the Madleen flotilla from reaching Gaza," Israel Katz said in a statement from his office. "To Greta the antisemite and her companions, Hamas propaganda mouthpieces, I say clearly: turn back because you will not reach Gaza." Thunberg and 11 other activists set off from Sicily on 1 June, carrying urgent supplies for besieged and starving Palestinians. The aid includes baby formula, flour, rice, diapers, women's sanitary products, water desalination kits, medical supplies, crutches, and children's prosthetics. New MEE newsletter: Jerusalem Dispatch Sign up to get the latest insights and analysis on Israel-Palestine, alongside Turkey Unpacked and other MEE newsletters Speaking to Middle East Eye from the aid boat on Tuesday, Thunberg that governments had failed Palestinians, and so it fell 'on us to step up and be the adults in the room'. 'We cannot sit by and allow this to happen. We are watching… a genocide happening, following decades and decades of systematic oppression, ethnic cleansing, occupation,' she said. 'We are just human beings, very concerned about what's happening, and do not accept what is going on.' Last month, another vessel organised by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), the Conscience, failed to continue its journey after being struck by two drones near Maltese waters. FFC-organised ships have been attempting to break Israel's 18-year land, sea and naval blockade on the Gaza Strip for nearly two decades. In 2010, the Mavi Marmara flotilla mission was attacked by Israeli forces, who boarded the ship and killed ten activists. Since then, Israeli troops have frequently intercepted and seized vessels attempting to break the siege. Israel imposed a complete blockade on all humanitarian aid to Gaza for 11 weeks, before partially lifting it on 19 May to allow very limited United Nations aid deliveries, and a US-backed scheme widely panned as unworkable. Katz on Sunday said that Israel would not allow anyone to break the maritime siege of Gaza. "Israel will act against any attempt to break the blockade or assist terrorist organisations, by sea, air, or land," he said.
