Strawberry Moon 2025: When and where to watch the full moon in India and the US

Ever looked up at a so-called Strawberry Moon and wondered if the moon is about to serve fruity pink vibes? Hate to break it to you, it is not turning pink or red or berry-hued. But what it is doing in 2025 is something astronomers and astro-nerds are buzzing about. The June full moon, adorably nicknamed the Strawberry Moon, is rooted in Native American culture. Tribes linked this moon phase with the ripening of wild strawberries, hence the name. Cute, right? But this year's Strawberry Moon is not just a pretty name. It is serving once-in-a-generation realness. What makes Strawberry Moon 2025 so special? This year, the Strawberry Moon is showing off. Thanks to a rare celestial event called a major lunar standstill, the full moon in June 2025 will sit super low in the sky — the lowest it has been in nearly 20 years. Basically, the moon will hug the horizon, appear huge, and glow with a golden-orange filter courtesy of the Earth's atmosphere. In case you are wondering, the next time this low-sky drama returns is 2043. So yes, this is your moment. Strawberry Moon 2025 date and time in India In India, mark your calendars for Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 5:30 AM IST — that is when the Strawberry Moon hits its peak. But the real aesthetic? That will happen the night before. Step out on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, right after sunset (between 7:15 PM and 8:00 PM IST) and look southeast. Golden hour meets golden moon — it is the ultimate vibe. How and when to see it in the US American moon lovers, your cosmic call time is Tuesday evening, June 10, 2025, just after sunset. The peak happens at 3:44 AM EDT on June 11, but the visual drama unfolds earlier in the night. Whether you are in New York at around 8:30 PM EDT or chilling in LA at 8:00 PM PDT, the southeastern sky is your best bet for moon magic. Other names for the June full moon Besides the ultra-Instagrammable 'Strawberry Moon,' June's lunar diva is also called the Blooming Moon, Green Corn Moon, Hoer Moon, Egg Laying Moon, and even the Hatching Moon. No matter what you call it, this low-hanging lunar glow is serving once-in-two-decades glory.

Strawberry Moon 2025: What it is, when to watch, and why it might look red

Skywatchers in the U.S. and UK are in for a treat as June's full moon—known as the Strawberry Moon—lights up the sky in the early hours of June 11, 2025. Why is it called the Strawberry Moon? The name comes from Native American traditions, where June's full moon signaled the time to harvest wild strawberries. Despite the name, the moon doesn't actually turn pink—though this year, it just might appear reddish. When to see it U.S.: The moon will reach peak illumination at 3:44 a.m. ET on June 11. However, it will look full as it rises on the evening of June 10, making that night the ideal time for viewing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Support elderly mothers. Donate Today HelpAge India Donate Now Undo UK: Stargazers can catch the Strawberry Moon late on Tuesday night, June 10, as it appears low in the southern sky. Why could it look red? This year's Strawberry Moon might live up to its name in color, thanks to its unusually low position in the sky. Because it's sitting so close to the horizon, its light passes through a thicker layer of the Earth's atmosphere. That scatters blue light and lets more red and orange hues through—similar to what you see during a sunset. Live Events The reddish tint may also be intensified by haze from wildfires, adding to the spectacle. What's causing the moon to sit so low? It's all due to a rare astronomical event called a major lunar standstill, which occurs only once every 18.6 years. During this time, the moon reaches the most extreme points in its orbit—rising and setting at its northernmost and southernmost positions. This causes June's full moon to trace a particularly low arc across the sky, making it appear larger and more colorful to the naked eye. The last time this happened was in 2006, and we won't see it again until 2043. How to watch it Look toward the eastern horizon as the moon rises after sunset on June 10. For the best view, try to find a location away from city lights with a clear view of the horizon. Weather permitting, parts of the UK and U.S. will enjoy excellent visibility. Is it really pink? No—but it might look reddish or orange. The name "Strawberry Moon" comes from seasonal tradition, not color. The reddish appearance is an optical effect caused by the moon's low angle and atmospheric conditions.

The hidden cost of menstrual waste

The hidden cost of menstrual waste

In a world shaped by convenience, plastic has become both a ubiquitous burden and a looming peril. Each year, humanity produces over 430 million tonnes of plastic, much of it crafted for fleeting use, only to persist in landfills, rivers, and oceans for centuries. India, responsible for nearly 20% of the world's plastic waste, stands at a critical juncture. As plastic pollution escalates, its ripple effects extend far beyond immediate surroundings, endangering wildlife, degrading ecosystems, threatening public health, and pushing our already strained planet closer to ecological tipping points. Between 19 to 23 million tonnes of plastic enter aquatic ecosystems annually. This is not merely pollution; it is a slow unraveling of nature's delicate balance. The theme of Ending Plastic Pollution for World Environment Day 2025 rings out as a powerful call to action. It urges us to protect our Earth from the tightening grip of plastic waste and sparks a global movement fueled by unity, purpose, and commitment. This theme also opens a window into an often-overlooked intersection: the link between environmental care and menstrual hygiene. Making menstrual health greener is not only an environmental imperative—it is a stride toward gender equity and public health. Consider this: The annual use of disposable pads and tampons generates around 9 kgs of CO₂ emissions per person. Over an average menstrual lifespan of 40 years, one woman's sanitary choices could add up to 360 kgs of carbon emissions. Now multiply that by India's approximately 36 crore (360 million) menstruating women—the environmental cost becomes staggering. A large share of this impact stems from products that contain plastic and are not biodegradable. On this World Environment Day, let us commit to making menstrual hygiene products as clean and green as possible—empowering women while healing the planet. Menstrual cups offer hygienic, convenient comfort and reduce public health risks. Their value becomes especially evident during crises like floods or natural disasters, when the safe disposal of pads poses a serious challenge. Together, let us break the cycle of plastic dependence and build a healthier, more sustainable future for our women, for our communities, and the Earth.
