Michael B. Jordan Reveals Career Advice From Denzel Washington

Yahoo3 days ago

Michael B. Jordan has long admired Denzel Washington, and in a new interview, he revealed the advice he received from the veteran actor. Speaking with New York Magazine, the 38-year-old explained the lack of selfies on his social media feed at the Fences star's guidance.
The Sinners actor detailed that he was once asked by Washington, 'Why would they pay to see you on a weekend if they see you all week for free?' and that the answer has shaped the way he guards himself on social media. He did, however, allow part of her personal life to be exposed to the public when dating Lori Harvey from 2020 through 2022. The New Jersey native revealed that featuring the model on his social media feed was done without intention.
'There was no real thought behind,' he detailed. 'At that moment, I was like, 'Ah, f**k it, whatever.''
That does not necessarily mean that intimate footage of Jordan's life does not exist. He continued to reveal to the publication that seven years ago, he hired a videographer to document his day-to-day life.
'The intent was me feeling like I don't take in the moments,' he explained. 'Because I'm always on the go, always working and grinding. One day I wanted to have something to reflect on outside of the memories in my head.'
He continued to explain why the clips will likely never be consumed by the public, detailing his goal was to create a 'family archive' for his relatives such as nieces and nephews to explain 'why Uncle Mike is always gone' or show to his 'great-grandkids when I'm dead' to 'understand a bit of where they come from.'

Ryan Coogler Confirms Denzel Washington Has a Part in 'Black Panther 3'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Back in March, "Sinners" director Ryan Coogler reacted to Denzel Washington's public statements about appearing in "Black Panther 3" and while it was something Coogler seemed excited about, he stopped just shy of confirming it. Now, Coogler has confirmed not only that he has talked to Washington about showing up in "Black Panther 3", but that he has written a role specifically for the two-time Oscar-winning star. Read More: James Gunn Wants Peacemaker to Fight Batman Appearing on "7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony", Coogler was asked if there had been conversations with Washington or if he was writing a role specifically for the actor. Coogler's answer: "All of that. All of the above, bro." Denzel Washington poses at the opening night after party for "Othello" on Broadway at Tavern on The Green on March 23, 2025 in New York City. Bruce Glikas/WireImage He went on to praise Washington, saying, "I think he's the greatest living actor. And in terms of what he means to our culture, forget about it. I've been talking to him about this for a long time." Coogler's confirmation that he's written a part for Washington shouldn't be too much of a surprise. Back in March, Coogler said "Yeah, I've been dying to work with Denzel, man, and I'm hoping we can make that happen." "I have every intention of working with him in ['Black Panther 3']. As long as he itches to do it, it's gonna happen. You know, he's a living legend and a great mentor for so many of us. He's all about looking out for us now." As far as who exactly Denzel Washington would play in "Black Panther 3", Coogler is keeping that to himself. That hasn't stopped fans from speculating, of course, with some even guessing his character might be from another part of Marvel's multiverse and could be a variant of T'Challa's father T'Chaka, or perhaps even T'Challa himself. One popular fan-casting is the villain Achebe, who was created as a kind of eccentric mix between Kaiser Soze of "The Usual Suspects" fame and the Joker. Not possessed of any special abilities, Achebe instead manipulates his ways into political power in Wakanda. Very little is known about "Black Panther 3" including whether or not it has a firm release date. Letitia Wright is expected to reprise the role of Shuri for the film, potentially appearing alongside Denzel Washington. 10 top new movies and shows to stream this weekend on Netflix, Apple TV and more (June 6-8)

June is off to a hot start, with a sizzling mix of new shows and movies to watch this weekend on Netflix, Apple TV Plus and more of the best streaming services. Returning favorites lead our TV weekend watch list. "Ginny and Georgia" season 3 adds legal woes to the mother/daughter dramedy, while "Resident Alien" season 4 spins up new adventures for the extraterrestrial doc. In terms of debuts, the biggest one is "Stick," a golf comedy starring Owen Wilson giving major "Ted Lasso" vibes. On the movie side, one of the best movies of the year is available on premium video-on-demand: "Sinners" is an electric vampire tale from Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan. Here's our guide to what to watch this weekend. If "Ted Lasso" won you over with its warm-hearted take on soccer, "Stick" might just tee up the same magic for golf. Owen Wilson plays Pryce 'Stick' Cahill, a once-great golfer begrudgingly coaching a hotheaded 17-year-old prodigy who hits long and sulks hard. Created by Jason Keller, the comedy mixes big laughs with surprising heart, peppered with cameos from real golf legends and viral YouTubers. Wilson, meanwhile, is in his sweet spot — rumpled, effortlessly cool and playing it just sincere enough to sink the emotional putt. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Episodes 1-3 streaming now on Apple TV Plus Getting cuffed for murder in the middle of your vows? Not quite the fairytale ending Georgia (Brianne Howey) had in mind. Season 3 throws the Millers into chaos: Georgia's skeletons are out of the closet, and Ginny (Antonia Gentry) is rethinking just how far she's willing to go for her mom. With Georgia's trial looming, tensions are sky-high and the family's future hangs in the balance. Ginny's growing up fast, and it's messy, painful, and anything but simple. Hold on tight, Peaches — this season is an emotional rollercoaster. All 10 episodes streaming now on Netflix The beloved sci-fi comedy is back with fresh chaos. Harry (Alan Tudyk) has returned to Earth post-alien-prison break, but there's a twist: he's now human … or at least trying to pass as one. Complicating things? A crafty shape-shifter masquerading as Harry and stirring up trouble in the already quirky town of Patience, Colorado. Meanwhile, Sheriff Mike and Deputy Liv are knee-deep in strange goings-on and dead-set on cracking the latest bizarre cases. Let the weirdness resume. Episode 1 premieres Friday, June 6 at 11 p.m. ET on Syfy or USA (via Sling or Fubo) Shane Gillis' offbeat comedy returns, still barely holding it together, which is exactly its charm. In season 2, Will (Steven Gerben) and Shane (Gillis) are riding the wave of their sorta-successful tire hustle, trying to build an empire … or at least not burn it all down. Enter Shane's wild-card dad (Thomas Haden Church), a Vince Vaughn cameo and Will teetering on the edge of a full-blown meltdown. There's HR trouble, a painfully cringey romance and plenty of chaos to go around. The wheels may be loose, but the ride's somehow even funnier. All 12 episodes streaming now on Netflix The lights are bright, the curtain's up, and Broadway takes center stage at the 78th annual Tony Awards. Hosted by Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo, this year's celebration spotlights standout shows like "Buena Vista Social Club," "Death Becomes Her," "John Proctor Is the Villain," "Oh, Mary!," "Romeo + Juliet "and "Sunset Boulevard." But the night's biggest showstopper? A 10th anniversary reunion from the original "Hamilton" cast—yes, the room where it happens is happening again. Special premieres Sunday, June 8 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount Plus With Showtime Shaq's trading dunks for deals in this new docuseries, which tracks the Hall of Famer's latest power move: taking over as President of Reebok Basketball. He's teaming up with Allen Iverson to revive the brand, and they're not just talking throwbacks — they're locking in rising stars like Angel Reese and setting their sights on a full-court comeback. It's part boardroom playbook, part trip down memory lane, and all about the grind. From Boston to beyond, Shaq's still running the game, just in a different jersey. All 6 episodes streaming on Netflix Crank the heat to full blast: "Love Island" is back, and the villa's filling up fast with fresh singles ready to stir the pot. Ariana Madix returns as host, dishing out no-nonsense advice and just the right amount of sass. This season's lineup? Pure drama bait, with heartbreak survivor Yulissa and cocky charmer Austin already turning heads. Expect flirty games, fiery blowups and maybe even a few real connections in the chaos. It's going to be one steamy, messy summer. Episode 1 streaming now on Peacock Ryan Coogler's completely original vampire tale hits like a shot of moonshine. The director turns the Mississippi Delta into a blood-soaked blues opera, where Michael B. Jordan plays not one but two bootlegging brothers trying to outrun their sins. It's 1932, and twins Smoke and Stack are back home to open a music haven, only to find something far more dangerous than Jim Crow lurking in the shadows. 'Sinners' is part horror, part Southern fable and part fever dream — unlike anything I've seen in a while. Yeah, it's a vampire movie, but also a celebration of Black resistance, joy and survival. Streaming now with purchase on Amazon and Apple 'Predator: Killer of Killers' is what happens when you feed the franchise creatine and throw it across three centuries. Directed by Prey's Dan Trachtenberg, the animated anthology film pits a Viking warrior mom, a ninja and a hotshot WWII pilot against everyone's favorite intergalactic trophy hunter. The animation is bold, the action is relentless and the kills are extremely savage (because Predators really don't care what century it is). Fans of the franchise are sure to enjoy 'Killer of Killers' ahead of the release of 'Badlands' this fall. Streaming now on Hulu Tyler Perry's new thriller stars Taraji P. Henson as a single mom who can't seem to catch a break. Janiyah is just trying to cash a check at the bank so she can buy her sick daughter's medicine — except everything that can go wrong does and suddenly she's in a full-on hostage situation. 'Straw's' story of a desperate parent who's one crisis away from losing everything feels particularly timely. Henson looks to give a fiery performance, and she's joined by a cast including Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor and Sinbad. Streaming now on Netflix

Here's How You Can Watch 'Sinners' In The UK, At Home Now

Following the success of Black Panther and Creed, director Ryan Coogler returns with Sinners, an original vampire thriller. Set in 1930s Mississippi and starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, the film unfolds as both a supernatural tale and an exploration of family, tradition, and Black Southern culture. FIND OUT MORE ON ELLE COLLECTIVE Sinners marks the fifth collaboration between Coogler and Jordan. This time, Jordan plays twin brothers—Smoke and Stack—who return to their hometown hoping to leave their past behind. But what awaits them is even more: a town haunted by vampires and other monsters. Despite the high-concept premise, Coogler sought to root the film in raw emotion. Inspired by the loss of his uncle James and the family stories he heard growing up, Sinners merges bold, stylized filmmaking with deeply personal history. 'For me, the movie started with my relationship with my uncle who is from Mississippi,' Coogler told LeBron James in a conversation for Interview Magazine. 'He was the older male figure in my life... When I was working on Creed in 2015, he passed away. I had already made a film about the Bay with Fruitvale [Station], I was making a movie about Philly, I made a couple of movies about Wakanda, and now I'm coming back home in a different way. I'm looking at the American South, which is, outside of the continent of Africa, where Black people call home.' Though it tackles themes of Black displacement, resistance, and resilience, Sinners also makes space for humor, tenderness, and lots of blood. 'At first I thought Sinners was going to be a small genre film, but [the more] I learned I was like, 'Oh, this thing has to actually be massive' for it to feel right, to do it justice,' Coogler told IndieWire. There is yet to be confirmation on where you'll be able to stream Sinners for free in the UK (well, free once you've paid for your subscription of course...). In the US, the film will stream on Max this year, but it's not clear what that means for its UK distribution In the meantime, viewers can buy or rent the film at home on Prime Video, Apple TV+ and all other digital retailers.
