Op Kayakalp: Govt plans to rebuild unsafe & abandoned school buildings
1 2 Prayagraj: The UP govt plans to rebuild about 633 state-run basic schools across Prayagraj district that are dilapidate and unsafe under 'Operation Kayakalp' initiative. The move is seen as a step towards ensuring the safety and well-being of students and improving the overall learning environment. According to the basic education department, while 98.51% of schools in the district now have access to basic amenities like electricity, water and toilets, the condition of some has raised concerns. These schools identified in a local survey have damaged classrooms, old kitchens and unsafe verandas or toilets. In many cases, only a few rooms or parts of the school were found to be structurally safe. Now, as per protocol, a committee chaired by chief development officer and comprising executive engineers from the rural engineering services, public works department, and minor irrigation department is conducting detailed surveys. Their task is to assess the structural integrity of these buildings, determine the cost of demolition where necessary, and oversee the formulation of new construction proposals. Once the technical evaluation is complete and necessary permissions are obtained, the demolition of unsafe structures will begin. Tenders will be floated, and after the financial approvals are secured, the construction of new classrooms and buildings will commence. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dukung Orang Terkasih Menghadapi Limfoma: Mulai Di Sini Limfoma Pelajari Undo The state administration has assured that every step will be taken as per established norms and with a focus on safety and quality. TN to implement ‘Pa'-shaped seating arrangement
Chennai: Inspired by the Malayalam film 'Sthanarthi Sreekuttan', Tamil Nadu school education department has decided to implement a semi-circular seating arrangement (in the shape of the Tamil letter 'Pa') so that there are no 'backbenchers'. This will first be tried in govt middle schools and in classes with low student strength. "All chief educational officers are requested to instruct headmasters to arrange students' desks and chairs in a 'Pa' shape in the classroom, depending upon the strength and size of the classroom," a circular from the school education director said. Officials said it would be tested on a pilot basis in the 8,000 govt middle schools across the state. This new arrangement is likely to be difficult to follow in a class where the students' strength is more than 35. "Every student will have a clear view of the teacher and other students. The teacher can easily make eye contact with all students, improving engagement. It will also promote discussions, question and answer sessions, and peer learning," the circular from the school education director said. "This allows the teacher to walk into the centre of the classroom, making teaching more dynamic and interactive. It facilitates easy monitoring and support for all students. Students feel more involved and less isolated. Shy or quiet students are more likely to participate in a circular and inclusive learning," it said. It also said the new arrangement will be ideal for role plays, science experiments, and interactive lessons. "Classroom design isn't about the furniture. It's about fostering connection. This shape will do that beautifully. Every student will be in the front row. The best learning happens where no one hides, moreover, it brings everyone into the light of learning." Federation of Private School Associations, however, has asked govt to consider the new arrangement carefully before implementing it. "The arrangement can accommodate only a few students. It may strain the students to turn their heads to look at the blackboard, and also cause eye-related issues," said M Arumugam, president of the federation.

Over 40k applications for 4.5k PG seats in GU & affiliated colleges
Guwahati: A rush for admission to Gauhati University (GU) and its affiliated colleges for postgraduate (PG) courses was witnessed this year, with the number of applications crossing the 40,000 mark. GU authorities on Saturday said this year, 15,000 students submitted 42,000 applications, a significant rise from last year's 28,000 applications, for admission in 50 subjects in PG. The total number of seats in PG courses, distributed in GU and its affiliated colleges, is around 4,500. While this trend is considered an encouraging sign for the premier public university of the state, it also exposes the dearth of an adequate number of seats in PG, with many of the qualified applicants being GU pass outs. Officials said this also highlights the need for students to prioritise other skill-based or professional courses that are available in Assam and under GU. However, the dearth of seats to accommodate the qualified graduates is a phenomenon witnessed across different universities in the country. The PG entrance tests for GU admissions were held from Thursday to Saturday. "We have reserved 50 per cent of the PG seats for GU pass outs, whereas the rest are open. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo A few more supernumerary seats (additional) will be there for other NE states to encourage students from the neighbouring states to pursue higher studies in GU," GU registrar Prof Utpal Sarma told TOI. GU vice-chancellor professor Nani Gopal Mahanta said, "Gauhati University has always positioned itself as a hub of knowledge and innovation. We are committed to realising the dreams of every aspiring student. I believe those who appeared for the entrance examinations will attain the results they strive for and progress through the opportunities this university offers." With an A+ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Gauhati University continues to uphold its commitment to making higher education accessible to all. To ensure wider participation, the examinations were held across 20 centres, including Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Jorhat, Guwahati, Tezpur, Nagaon, Silchar, Lakhimpur, Dhubri, Diphu, Bongaigaon and Shillong. GU, the oldest university in the northeast, recently secured a coveted place in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025, entering the 1,201-1,500 global band. It also featured in the THE Asia University Rankings at 351-400, rising to 48th position among Indian higher-education institutions, the best showing for any university in the region.
