Accountant charged with leaving children without proper care, supervision
Thaha Abdul Latef, 39, made the plea after the charges were read out before Judge Norazlin Othman.
On the first count, he was charged as the father of a 10-year-old boy, who has mild autism, to have left the child in a house in Elmina Valley, Section U16, Shah Alam, on March 15, without making any arrangements for his proper care and supervision.
He was also charged with committing a similar offence on his visually impaired 12-year-old daughter at the same place and date.
The charges were framed under Section 33(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years or both upon conviction.
He was allowed bail of RM10,000 and ordered to report to a nearby police station once a month and surrender his passport to the court, which then set Sept 4 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal prosecuted, while lawyer Mohd Redzuan Mohamed Yusoff represented the accused. – Bernama

According to Bernama, Mohd Khalid told a press briefing that the group collected funds by charging an annual membership fee, as well as other voluntary contributions based on members' financial means. The group's members were working in labor sectors such as factories, construction sites, and petrol stations across Malaysia. "The funds collected were then transferred abroad using e-wallet applications and international money transfer services," he said, adding that no Malaysians were found to be involved. Mohd Khalid added that the group also used social media platforms and messaging apps to recruit new members.

Toddler dies of suspected abuse in Sungai Buloh
KUALA LUMPUR: A two-year-old girl has died with bruises, swelling, and cuts on her body, believed to be the victim of abuse, in Paya Jaras, Sungai Buloh on Thursday. Sungai Buloh police chief Supt Mohd Hafis Muhammad Nor said police received a report on the child's death from a medical officer at Sungai Buloh Hospital at 12.45am. He said the toddler was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state by a couple, aged 27 and 28, who were also her adoptive parents. "The attending doctor reported receiving an unconscious child brought in by the couple. "Checks revealed bruises, swelling, and injuries all over the body, along with dried blood stains around the mouth and nose," he said in a statement last night. Mohd Hafis said that following the report, a team from the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Division arrested the couple to assist in the investigation. "Initial checks found that both suspects had no prior criminal records. "A remand application will be submitted at the Shah Alam court tomorrow (today) to facilitate further investigation," he said. He said the child's body has been sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
