Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the Vande Bharat train service from Katra to Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir on June 6, according to officials. The train, which was earlier scheduled to be launched on April 19, faced delays due to weather conditions.'The Prime Minister could flag off the Vande Bharat train services from Katra in Jammu division to Baramulla in the Valley on June 6 as all preparations for the train services have been given the final touches," officials said. The train service is expected to support the movement of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, especially during frequent disruptions of the Jammu-Srinagar highway . This year's Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 3 and conclude on August 9. Officials also noted that additional trains could be deployed in case of road blockades.PM Modi will flag off the train from Katra and virtually from Baramulla. He will also address a public rally at Katra Stadium and visit the Chenab railway bridge and the cable-stayed bridge on the railway track in Reasi district before the inauguration. The Vande Bharat train will initially operate between Katra and Baramulla. Operations from Jammu to Baramulla are expected to begin by August or September, following platform expansion at Jammu Railway Station. There will be no direct train to Kashmir from Delhi or other parts at present. Passengers will be required to change trains at Katra, and later at Jammu.A fresh security audit of the route was conducted following the Pahalgam terror attack. Authorities have since enhanced security with increased personnel and infrastructure upgrades. The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) spans 272 kilometres. Of this, 209 kilometres have been commissioned in phases since 2009. The final 17-kilometre stretch between Reasi and Katra was completed three months ago. A trial run of an electric train was conducted on January 4 on the Katra-Banihal section. The specially designed Vande Bharat train for Kashmir will be the third such train in the region. The full commissioning of the Katra to Baramulla service and later the Jammu to Baramulla route is set to fulfil a longstanding transport demand in the Valley.Officials stated that this train connectivity will support sectors such as horticulture, education, goods transport, and local travel.

'Age Of Modern Air Warfare': PM Modi To Council Of Ministers In First Meeting After Op Sindoor

Last Updated: Apart from India's successful offensive, one of the key takeaways during the meeting was good governance and the goal of becoming a developed country by 2047 In the first meeting of the Council of Ministers after Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on modern warfare and the success of India's strikes against Pakistan. Apart from India's successful offensive, one of the key takeaways during the three-and-half-hour meeting was governance and the goal of becoming a developed country by 2047 in alignment with the 'Viksit Bharat' vision. 'This is a significant response by our armed forces and a successful one. We should all take pride in their bravery," Modi told his colleagues, as per sources. Chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers earlier this evening. — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) June 4, 2025 Modi said modern warfare was different from traditional methods, where troop management took days. 'In the past, people in Punjab had to wait for days to see troop mobilisation and war-related activities, including setting up camps. Modern warfare is air warfare, and the results were seen in 22 minutes," he said. He said it had been almost a month since the strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), and India had achieved the desired results. The Prime Minister spoke about India's growth and future goals, stressing that India's aim was to become a developed country by 2047. He said each department must set smaller, achievable goals leading to this bigger objective. 'Our goal is big. We have a lot to achieve, but time is short. We must push the envelope and get going," he said. 'The world is looking at India to become a major trade hub, but the focus must be on quality. Whatever we produce, there should be no compromise on quality, regardless of the quantity." He highlighted India's achievement in becoming a significant market for indigenous defense equipment under the current regime. The work done by the government in the last 11 years, including the NDA leadership over the past year, is exemplary, he said. The PM said the Central Vista is ready and, therefore, the ministries of North Block and South Block need to prepare for relocation. He advised his colleagues to address grievances with special care and maximise their efforts as a service to the nation. He added that ministers should visit 'aspirational" districts and spend time there to understand the situation better. There were four key presentations at the meeting, including on 'aspirational blocks' by NITI Aayog, Jal Jeevan Mission by water resources ministry, government works in the last 11 years by the cabinet secretary, and on obesity by the health ministry.
