Yvonne Strahovski teases what's coming next in final season of "The Handmaid's Tale": "It's going to be shocking"

CBS News10-04-2025
Will the Serena Joy Waterford finally find redemption?
Actor Yvonne Strahovski carefully dangled that possibility while discussing the sixth and final season of the Emmy-winning series
"The Handmaid's Tale"
during an appearance Tuesday on "CBS Mornings Plus."
Strahovski, who portrays the calculating and cruel Serena, addressed widespread fan speculation about her character's potential shift to "the good side" in the final episodes.
"That's the million-dollar question in Season 4 for Serena, is about how far will she go," Strahovski said. "This season is probably the biggest shot that she has at actually understanding the consequences of her terrible actions."
The actress revealed that fans who recognize her from the show often seem intimidated.
"I feel like they're a bit afraid of me, to be honest. She's so brutal and cruel that I think most people who recognize me just kind of tiptoe around," she said.
According to Strahovski, her co-star
Elizabeth Moss
indicated that the
final season
was created with fans in mind. "We needed to give people the sort of rebellion and resistance that we've been working towards for the last few seasons. And this is the season," she explained.
"Everyone sort of bands together and contributes to the resistance. It's going to be shocking, and there are very big surprises, but it's also an incredibly moving ending," Strahovski added.
Reflecting on her character's evolution over the show's eight-year run, Strahovski described Serena's journey as "beautiful" and "complex."
"We started off with this incredibly brutal and cruel woman. It was often hard for me to wrap my head around those scenes, and being in this woman's shoes," she said. "Over the course of the series, she's become a mother, and that was the one thing that she wanted. I think that's changed her in ways, and she has allowed herself to expand her narrow-minded view and have empathy and compassion."
The new episodes of the sixth and final season of "The Handmaid's Tale" stream Tuesdays on Hulu.

Michelle Yeoh teases new songs coming in 'Wicked: For Good'

Michelle Yeoh is giving "Wicked" fans a sneak peek at the highly anticipated sequel. In a recent interview with People, the Oscar-winning actress, who plays Madame Morrible, hinted at what audiences can expect in "Wicked: For Good," which will arrive on Nov. 21. "I think you're getting some new songs," Yeoh teased, before joking, "I didn't say that." Fans of the Broadway show's beloved soundtrack won't be disappointed as Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the music and lyrics for the stage production, has previously confirmed he composed two new songs specifically for the film. "I have permission to say there are two new songs in the movie because the storytelling demanded it. One of them happens to be for the character of Elphaba. The other one happens to be for the character of Glinda," Schwartz told the outlet in June. Yeoh also shared that she and her castmates have remained close long after filming wrapped. "I was just at Hollywood Bowl [for] Cynthia," she said, referencing Cynthia Erivo's performance in "Jesus Christ Superstar." "I love her. She was so amazing." In June, fans got a special first look at the film's trailer, which featured Erivo and Ariana Grande reprising their roles as Elphaba and Glinda. Directed once again by Jon M. Chu, "Wicked: For Good" picks up with the two characters estranged and follows their journey to repair their friendship in order to save Oz for good. The film also stars Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, and Yeoh as Madame Morrible. The first "Wicked" film earned 10 Oscar nominations at the 97th Academy Awards and won two, including best costume design and best production design. Erivo received a best actress nomination, while Grande was nominated for best supporting actress. "Wicked: For Good" hits theaters Nov. 21, 2025.

Victoria Beckham's ‘body-image issues will feature in upcoming documentary'

Victoria Beckham's 'body-image issues' will reportedly feature in her upcoming documentary. The 51-year-old former Spice Girl is putting out a new Netflix docuseries which premieres in September, and insiders say it will involve the singer-turned-fashion designer speaking candidly about the impact of decades of pressure from being in the public eye. Page Six reported the show 'reveals how years of negative attention led to body-image issues and a restricted diet'. An industry insider told the outlet: 'When you look back in hindsight at the media environment in the '90s, it was super hard. 'There was a huge scrutiny on Victoria's appearance and her weight. 'I think the audience will have some understanding of what she went through.' Victoria has already admitted 'there are tears' in the footage of her three-part show, adding to Bloomberg: 'And it did occur to me the other day, what am I going to think when I see those tears on a huge screen? Or on an iPhone?' Titled Victoria Beckham, the series follows Victoria as she prepares to stage the largest fashion show of her career during Paris Fashion Week in September 2024 for her eponymous brand. Her husband, David Beckham, 50, and their children make brief appearances, including Brooklyn, 25, and his wife Nicola Peltz, 30, though the footage was filmed before the family's reported recent estrangement. Victoria's mis-treatment by the public and British media has already been shown in the 2023 Emmy-winning Netflix docuseries Beckham about her husband David. It saw her recall being the subject of X-rated chants from crowds at his soccer games, saying, 'It's embarrassing, it's hurtful.' Sources also told Page Six her new documentary will see Victoria looking back on archival footage including when TV presenter Chris Evans pushed her to be weighed live on air in 1999 — just two months after she gave birth to Brooklyn. David has said on the River Cafe Table 4 podcast about Victoria's strict diet: 'Unfortunately I'm married to someone that has eaten the same thing for the last 25 years. Since I met her she only eats grilled fish, steamed vegetables. She will very rarely deviate from that.' She has revealed her occasional indulgence is tequila. The new documentary is also set to chart Victoria's journey from Posh Spice to fashion designer, highlighting her struggles to establish and sustain her brand. Victoria told Bloomberg: 'I've been very defined by a four-year period in my life when I was in the Spice Girls. And I am so proud of that. But with that came all the preconceptions. 'I've been in the fashion industry creating my own collections for nearly 20 years. And it's taken this long for me to feel confident enough in what I do and my brand, knowing that now is the time that I can talk about my past.'
