Tommy Fleetwood sympathy from Keegan Bradley as he hails hero wife and bags stunning prize
The United States Ryder Cup captain denied Fleetwood to secure a dramatic success at the Travelers Championship.
Big-hearted Keegan Bradley admits he felt bad for putting Tommy Fleetwood through the pain of another PGA Tour heartbreak.
The United States Ryder Cup captain denied the English star on the 72nd hole to secure a dramatic success at the Travelers Championship.
Fleetwood was left devastated and, as he was consoled by wife Clare and his kids in the aftermath, Bradley was able to bounce around and celebrate with the jubilant local crowds as lifted the trophy, 700 FedEx Cup points and a whopping cheque for almost £2.7 million.
The American displayed dignity and class within his celebrations to give a message to the crushed European hero in the wake of the nightmare.
Bradley said: 'Yeah, listen, I know how hard it must be for him. He's just an unbelievable player and he's fighting so hard to get his first win. It's a weird thing to be on the other side of that.
"I do feel bad for him, but I got to go out and do what I need to do. But, you know, he battled today and I really hope that he gets his win soon.'
Bradley also revealed that his wife Jillian had played a heroic role in the success at TPC River Highlands.
Seven days previously, JJ Spaun had revealed that he had to make a dash to the chemist in the middle of the night prior to the final round of the US Open because his daughter Violet was being violently sick and needed some medicine.
Spaun didn't let the scenario affect him as he stayed strong on the Sunday to produce a magical finale and pip Scotland's Bob MacIntyre to the crown.
In a strange quirk of fate and perhaps as an omen, Bradley's boy Cooper was in the same position overnight as he got set for the last round in Connecticut.
However, the star golfer was left blissfully unaware of the situation as his good lady dealt with the issue and ensured a good night's sleep to be rested to attack the final round of the tournament.
"Bradley did just that and said: 'I feel so lucky to have the support group I have around me, but for my wife, especially, is really the hero of our family. Like, last night my four-year-old was throwing up all night. I didn't know until I woke up.
"So you know, she plays a major role in me doing what I do and she allows me to be the best that I can be out here.
"You don't always get that in sports or in business or in life and she allows me to be the best that I can be, work on my game, practice as hard as I can,and I'm really grateful for that.'

English golfer drags himself out of ambulance for eye-watering £400k pay day
Harry Hall says anyone would go to work feeling sick with so much cash on the line Battling Harry Hall went from ambulance to Top 10 and over £400,000 at the Travelers Championship after dragging himself through illness. The English star maintained a terrific run of recent form to fire a sizzling last-round 65 and shoot up the boards. Hall backed-up at Top 20 at the PGA Championship and a tied-sixth alongside Scotland's Bob MacIntyre at the Charles Schwab, but it was not without considerable drama as he revealed after the event the struggles he had to even get through the tournament. The 27-year-old considered withdrawing from the competition on Saturday morning as he toiled badly prior to his third round and only got through due to medical intervention with the knowledge he was playing for big points and big bucks another driving force. Hall bagged $540,000 for finishing just three shots behind World No.1 Scottie Scheffler and No.2 Rory McIlroy as Keegan Bradley won and explained: 'I was in the locker room debating whether to withdraw or not because I didn't feel great at all and ended up teeing off without a warm-up and without a swing, just went straight to the first tee after getting two IVs in the ambulance and just battled my way around for one-under yesterday. I think that kept me in the tournament. I think I just did well to play, to be honest. 'What inspired me to play? I did think it's a Signature Event if I can just survive 18 holes and not give up any ground or have a chance to have a decent tournament, obviously the points and the money. I think anyone else would turn up to work sick if they could make a quarter of a million, I think is what I was in. So I'm definitely turning up. 'Friday night I was sick all night, yeah. Then I woke up, didn't feel any better, so I went in and got checked out and they put me on two IV drips and then after the round yesterday [Saturday] I was gasping for breath all day on the golf course because it was pretty hot, too. I went in for another IV drip after the round. Then I woke up this [Sunday] morning great after like 12 hours of sleep. So I'm just fortunate I had the mindset to go out there yesterday and finish the round.' Asked what caused it, he continued: 'Just something I ate or something like that. I think there's a bug that's been going around. I think Eric Cole didn't make it because he was sick.' Hall's efforts paid dividends and with solid form over he past half-dozen events, he's rising the standings and up to World No.74. He said: 'I'm hitting the ball really nice. I focused a lot the last couple weeks on my grip. Which I think has helped my dispersion a little bit and just my consistency and my ball striking. That with just honing in my swing and everything's in a good spot.' Hall is now inside the Top 50 for the FedEx play-offs sitting at 47th and added: 'I think it's massive. The Tour's getting so competitive and to have an edge by being in all the elevated events where the points are elevated too, just to have that opportunity to make a schedule and have it determined at the start of the year and to have a chance to play for as many points and as much money, I think it's huge.'

Russell Henley suffers for honesty at Travelers with Ryder Cup consolation prize left after title miss
Henley called a penalty against himself when his ball moved a fraction in the rough before he played a shot Honest Russell Henley suffered for his classy act of sportsmanship as he came up just short at the Travelers. But the American star admits it was worth it to see United States skipper Keegan Bradley surge towards the title and a place in the Ryder Cup team. Henley displayed classy honesty during his second round at TPC River Highlands when he called a penalty against himself when his ball moved a fraction in the rough before he played a shot. It was not seen by anyone else or TV cameras, but he still did the right thing and, in the end, that crucial one-shot deduction cost him a place in a play-off with Bradley. Ironically, as Bradley is now being pushed to play for the United States, he could also knock Henley, who is seventh in the US Points List, out of the automatic qualifying spots come final reckoning. But he's almost sure of a pick either way and he had had nothing but good things to say about his potential skipper and wants him as a player as he said: 'I mean, I hope so. "He's just won, he's been playing great. I think he would be a great team-mate. He just plays with so much passion. "He wants it, he wants to compete, he wants to win. He just, it just means so much to him. That was a really, really cool moment on the 18th. I definitely feel for Tommy [Fleetwood] and I've been in that situation before and it stings, so it's the nature of sport.' Henley's admiration for Bradley is reciprocated by the captain as he sees the prospect of a top-notch individual on his roster. Victory at the prestigious Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill rocketed Henley up the Ryder Cup standings and cemented his chances of facing Europe in New York. Henley also formed a formidable partnership with Scottie Scheffler at the Presidents Cup last year when he and the World No.1 to secure points as Jim Furyk's men got the better of the International team at Royal Montreal. Henley looks a strong bet to be at Bethpage and that Bradley says he didn't need to watch him down the Travelers stretch as they played together in the final round to judge his minerals with a last-hole chip-in proving his again showing his class and character. He said: 'Russell's way up high on the points, won Bay Hill this year, consistently contends in the majors, finished in the top five at US Open, world-class player. "I wouldn't want to play [against] him come Ryder Cup time. The chip on 18, like he's just nasty and I love it because he's like the nicest guy ever, but he's an amazing competitor. If it was a younger player maybe, but not a guy like Russell.'
