Lakers Insider Opens Door on Potential Walker Kessler Trade

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Los Angeles Lakers desperately need a center as the team enters the upcoming NBA offseason. After being exposed in the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Lakers' front office understands the top priority for the summer. Los Angeles has been linked with multiple players ahead of the offseason, but there remains one perfect match. That would be center Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz. The Lakers have tried to land Kessler from Utah multiple times before, but they have been shot down each time. However, Kessler is now eligible for a contract extension this summer, and whether Utah wants to pay him remains unknown. According to Lakers insider Dave McMenamin of ESPN, Los Angeles remains very interested in going after Kessler. The Lakers could look to re-engage with the Jazz this summer on a potential deal. "Walker Kessler remains a name that the Lakers are intrigued remains a player that the Lakers feel could fill the void that they have at center." Deal could be centered around Knecht/2031 first, if it happens. (@mcten)#LakeShow — 🎗NBA•Fan🎗 (@Klutch_23) June 15, 2025 This article will be updated...

Jaden McDaniels Is Off-Limits In A Potential Kevin Durant Trade

Jaden McDaniels Is Off-Limits In A Potential Kevin Durant Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Minnesota Timberwolves are still involved in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes. While Durant has already picked the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and San Antonio Spurs, according to ESPN insider Shams Charania's sources, the Timberwolves are still a dark horse. Advertisement Some reports have stated the Timberwolves are quite involved in the trade discussions. However, they are unwilling to put Jaden McDaniels in any trade package, as they see him as a crucial part of their long-term future. Credit: Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images The Timberwolves would love to get Durant on the roster because he could be a game-changer. Anthony Edwards is their superstar player, but the team must be aware that they could give up too much for Durant. That is where McDaniels comes into the picture. He is one of the most important players and building blocks, so he is untouchable. McDaniels is a young two-way star for the long-term future, and team president Tim Connelly won't be willing to give that up. Related: Kevin Durant To The Timberwolves Is Topping Zach Lowe's "Buzz" Rankings The Risk Is Too High For Trading McDaniels When talking about the Timberwolves' players, two stand out as the most important ones. Those are Edwards and McDaniels, who coincidentally joined the Timberwolves in the same year in 2020. Advertisement McDaniels is the team's best perimeter defender, but he is versatile enough to play as a rim protector. His contributions are regularly overlooked because he does not have gaudy numbers, but he is vital to Chris Finch's system. That's why it's understandable that the Timberwolves are unwilling to put him in any trade package. Even if Durant is part of the trade package, Minnesota will want to have McDaniels due to his overall impact. "The Wolves are not including Jaden McDaniels in any KD trade talks, per team sources, which means that one of Randle or Rudy Gobert would have to be the primary salary eater in the deal," The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski said about the potential trade. "It does not appear that Phoenix wants to tear down and rebuild as part of this trade. Randle and Gobert both figured prominently in Minnesota's run to the conference finals last season." Durant's Interest Is Still Up In The Air According To Conflicting Reports Shams Charania's report for ESPN discusses how Houston, Miami, and San Antonio are his only preferred destinations. However, The Athletic's report says that his preference won't factor much into the trade. His contract lacks the no-trade clause that his teammate Bradley Beal has on his, so Durant can't control where he goes. Durant would want to join those three teams based on the contract extension he could get from them. Considering he is going to be 37 when the 2025-26 season rolls around, that will be his final NBA deal. Advertisement With that being said, the Wolves might present an appealing package for the Suns. Phoenix is not ready for a non-post-season campaign, as they will want immediate contributors. That leaves the potential of Randle, Gobert, and Donte DiVincenzo to be part of the trade. McDaniels will be on the Timberwolves, and if Durant joins them, they will have one of the most fearsome starting lineups in the league with the length and offensive firepower to boot. Writer suggests the Lakers should sign Clippers wing in free agency

Writer suggests the Lakers should sign Clippers wing in free agency In addition to help at the center position, the Los Angeles Lakers need help at the wing position. Their lack of perimeter defense was exposed in this year's NBA playoffs versus the Minnesota Timberwolves, and they will need to get creative with their limited resources. That means making good use of their mid-level exception, especially if they're unable to use it on a center. Unless LeBron James opts out of his current contract and takes a significant pay cut, the Lakers will only have the taxpayer mid-level exception of roughly $5.7 million. But that may be enough for a player at the wing position who will become a legitimate part of their rotation. Austin Veazey of Sports Illustrated suggested that they make an attempt to sign Amir Coffey away from the Los Angeles Clippers. Via Sports Illustrated: "One player the Lakers could look to target is LA Clippers wing Amir Coffey," Veazey wrote. "When you have playmakers and scorers as talented as [Luka] Dončić and LeBron James, surrounding them with shooting and positional versatility matters. Coffey is coming off his best season in his six years in the NBA, averaging a career-high 9.7 points per game in 72 appearances while shooting 40.9 percent from 3 on 3.4 attempts per game. "With Coffey listed at 6-foot-7, he can slot in about anywhere on the wing, and shouldn't be too expensive. He's coming off a three-year, $11 million contract extension with the Clippers and should be gettable for around the same price, despite being mentioned as one of the top available small forwards in free agency." It is very unlikely the Lakers could count on Coffey becoming a starter for them. But he could provide some serviceable minutes off the bench, especially if Dorian Finney-Smith, who can opt out of his contract this summer, leaves, or they trade Rui Hachimura in order to land a more important piece. Coffey, who will turn 28 years of age on Tuesday, has become a regular part of the Clippers' rotation over the last few years after going undrafted in 2019. He started to prove he could play during the 2021-22 season when Kawhi Leonard was out with an ACL injury by averaging 9.0 points in 22.7 minutes a game and hitting 37.8% of his 3-point attempts that season. He made $3.9 million this season, and his contract is about to expire.
