Madhya Pradesh police recruits to recite Ramcharitmanas every night before sleeping; top cop says ‘learn from Lord Ram'
Newly inducted police constables in Madhya Pradesh have been instructed to recite one or two chapters of the Ramcharitmanas collectively every night before sleeping at Police Training Schools (PTSs) across the state, as reported by ANI. The directive coincides with the launch of a nine-month basic training program that began on July 23 at eight PTSs. Before the start of the training, officials received numerous requests from recruits seeking to transfer to training centres closer to their hometowns. ADG (Training) Raja Babu Singh stated that it is a treasure trove of wisdom, and there is a path described for ideal value-based living in it. He told ANI, 'There are a total of eight Police Training Schools in Madhya Pradesh to train newly recruited constables, which include Rewa, Umaria, Pachamarhi, Indore, Ujjain, Bhauri-Bhopal, Sagar and Tighra-Gwalior. A 9-month-long training of newly recruited 4000 constables has started from today at these eight PTSs. As new criminal laws were implemented from July 1, 2024, we made some amendments in the 9-month-long basic course of police constables. We have designed the course keeping in mind the technological elements and its training has begun from today.' According to information, around half of the newly recruited constables submitted applications for PTS allocation nearest to their home, citing various excuses, mostly of illness in the family. Though ADG Singh dissuaded them and gave the example of Lord Ram's 14-year exile from Ramcharitmanas and to took a lesson from it. 'We have received a lot of applications from newly recruited PTS change personnel wishing to do training courses at the PTS nearest to their home. Some of them were citing reasons for their mother's illness and others. While addressing SP PTSs yesterday, I told them to counsel the recruits and motivate them that it is said in Ramcharitmanas, Lord Ram spent 14 years in exile; if Lord Ram had stayed in exile, then why can't you (recruits) spend just nine months in a Police Training School within the state,' ADG singh said. Ramcharitmanas is a treasure trove of wisdom, containing key messages about how to live life. He further added, 'I gave them this example of Lord Ram so that new recruits should focus on training rather than paying attention to changing PTS. I have also asked them to read Ramcharitmanas, and take inspiration from it; it contains many key messages about how to live life.' If Lord Ram had stayed in exile, then why can't you (recruits) spend just nine months in a Police Training School within the state?

Learn from Ram's exile, recite Ramcharitmanas: MP Police to homesick recruits
Amid a surge in requests from police recruits to shift them to training centres closer home, the Madhya Pradesh Police plans to start Ramcharitmanas sessions every evening, in the hope that Lord Ram's 14-year exile can offer a lesson or two. The new batch of recruits began their training this week in eight police training schools (PTS) across the state. Officials said they will be asked to recite at least two chapters of Ramcharitmanas daily before sleeping to stave off homesickness. ADG (training) Raja Babu Singh told The Indian Express, 'I have been receiving applications from new recruits asking for a change of their PTS closer to home. But this mindset is counterproductive. If officers are trained only near their homes, how will they ever adapt to postings in challenging regions like those affected by Naxal insurgency?' Drawing parallels with Lord Ram's exile, Singh apprised senior officers that the idea of staying away from home is not new to Indian tradition. 'Lord Ram did not return to Ayodhya for 14 years. During that time, he learned to live in the forest, built an army, and overcame hardship. If we want to teach our recruits lessons, they will have to be from our local culture, which they can relate to,' he said. According to the MP police, 300 fresh recruits have applied for transfer to a PTS near their home district. Senior officials said that if even a few are allowed, 'the floodgates for the transfer will open up'. Currently, 4,000 recruits are set to undergo the nine-month basic course training. The Ramcharitmanas sessions will be conducted by the head of the barracks every evening. This is not the first time Rajababu Singh has drawn on spiritual and cultural traditions in policing. Known for his earlier 'Gita Gyan' awareness campaign while serving as ADG of Gwalior zone, Singh had distributed copies in jails during Dussehra. The MP police have also moved to promote regional identity and pride, with every PTS required to introduce local folk martial arts and dances. 'There are also training schools where martial arts like Kalaripayattu are taught; we are going to make a list of all Indian martial arts forms and teach them to the recruits,' Singh said. Commando drills such as frog jumps, monkey walks, duck walks, and inchworm walks have also been integrated to simulate combat readiness using the body's natural movement, officials said.

Hitomi Obara, Japan's Wrestling Legend, Suddenly Dies at 44
Women's wrestling legend Hitomi Obara, a gold medalist at the 2012 London Olympics and eight-time world champion, has suddenly died, sources close to her said on Saturday. She was 44. The Self-Defense Force Physical Training School (PTS), where Obara was serving as women's coach, said she died on Friday. The PTS said it was withholding the cause of death 'out of consideration for the privacy and emotions of the bereaved family.' Obara, a mother of two, was born in the wrestling hotbed of Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, and helped make Chukyo Women's University (now Shigakkan University) the premier women's wrestling power in Japan. From 2000 to 2008, she won six world titles at the non-Olympic weight of 51 kilograms under her maiden name of Sakamoto. She attempted to make the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 55-kilogram class, but was thwarted both times by Chukyo teammate Saori Yoshida. Devastated, she retired in 2008, but returned in 2010 with the aim of qualifying for the London Olympics in the 48-kilogram. Paving the way was the fact that her younger sister Makiko, a two-time world bronze medalist at 48-kg whom she never wanted to supplant on the national team, decided to retire in 2009. The drop to 48-kg entailed great difficulty in cutting and maintaining her weight, but Obara, who got married in 2010, went on to win world titles in 2010 and 2011. She then took the gold in London with a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Azerbaijan's Mariya Stadnyk, after which she retired for good. In a visit back to her junior high school in January last year, Obara told the students, 'If you keep doing what you love to do and never give up, you can achieve your dream.' After retirement, Obara stayed on at the PTS as the women's coach. She also became a director of the Japan Wrestling Federation, and in June, was appointed coach of the women's national team along with fellow Hachinohe native and four-time Olympic champion Kaori Icho for the run-up to the Los Angeles Olympics. In 2022, she was inducted in the United World Wrestling's Hall of Fame along with Yoshida and Icho.

Libya launches digital platform for port operations
The Ministry of Economy and Trade of the Government of National Unity has officially launched the 'PTS' electronic trade portal to streamline the processing of commercial ship arrivals at Libyan ports. In a statement shared on its Facebook page, the ministry announced that, through joint agreements with the Libya Trade Network, the Ports and Maritime Transport Authority, and the Maritime Navigation Chamber, notifications of ship arrivals are now being exchanged electronically. As part of this initiative, the Libya Trade Network has activated a service that enables maritime inspection offices at ports to electronically receive ship arrival notices and cargo manifests, in line with approved procedures and operational standards. The ministry emphasized that this move is part of broader efforts to support digital transformation and improve trade facilitation, particularly in the logistics sector, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport.
