Audio-Technica Reveals Stunning New Transparent AT-LPA2 Vinyl Turntable
With a blend of stunning contemporary aesthetics and the promise of excellent sonic performance, the new fully manual AT-LPA2 turntable has been announced by Audio-Technica and draws on the brand's successful AT-LP2022 model for inspiration. Made from high-density transparent acrylic, the AT-LPA2 has been precision-assembled to provide vinyl listeners with something extraordinary to look at and listen to.
Designed for vinyl lovers who love both form and function, the AT-LPA2 has a striking 30mm transparent and high-density acrylic chassis as well as a 20mm acrylic platter. The unique construction looks impressive, but Audio-Technica also says acrylic provides exceptional resonance control, minimizing unwanted vibrations for clearer playback.
At the heart of the AT-LPA2 is a precision-engineered belt-drive mechanism with an optical sensor positioned beneath the spindle. This arrangement constantly monitors the platter rotation, ensuring accurate playback at both 33-1/3 and 45 RPM speeds.
The turntable uses an external power supply and control unit. By separating these two essential components from the turntable, the AT-LPA2 can isolate sensitive audio parts from any potential electrical interference, preserving the clarity of the music.
Carbon-Fiber Tonearm
The AT-LPA2 comes pre-fitted with Audio-Technica's AT-OC9XEN dual moving coil cartridge. With its nude elliptical stylus and high-purity PCOCC coils, Audio-Technica claims the AT-OC9XEN can capture every detail and nuance from a vinyl record with clarity, excellent channel separation and low distortion.
Completing the package is a newly designed straight carbon-fiber tonearm. Engineered for superior tracking, the tonearm has an adjustable VTA, azimuth adjustment, a finely adjustable string-type anti-skate mechanism and interchangeable counterweights for broader cartridge compatibility.
Pricing and Availability:
The Audio-Technica AT-LPA2 turntable will be available from selected distributors from 15 May 2025 and will retail for £1,699 / €1,999.

AT&T Targets Seniors With Cheaper 55+ Plan: What You Need to Know
PCMag editors select and review products independently. If you buy through affiliate links, we may earn commissions, which help support our testing. AT&T is expanding its plan for seniors, offering it for as low as $35 per month with two lines. The carrier's new AT&T 55+ wireless plan includes unlimited talk, text, and data. The plan was previously only available to Florida residents at $60 for two lines and $80 for one line. But it looks like AT&T is expanding it nationwide to new and existing customers aged 55 or older. Importantly, the deal only costs $40 per month for one line or $35 per month for two lines for a total of $70. That's a good bargain for qualifying customers, considering AT&T's "unlimited starter SL" plan goes for $65.99 per month for one line. "At AT&T, we recognize the importance of addressing the unique needs of our 55 and better audience—a demographic that values simplicity and seamless connectivity in today's fast-paced digital world,' the carrier says. The catch is that senior customers need to enroll in wireless billing and autopay with a bank account, not just a debit or credit card, to receive the discount. The listed price is also before taxes and fees. 'Activation/upgrade fee per line (up to $50) & deposit may apply,' the terms and conditions say. So, the final cost to users may be higher than advertised. In addition, AT&T says it can temporarily slow the subscribers' data speeds 'if the network is busy,' signaling consumers won't be receiving priority access. Interested users can sign up through the carrier's website, which may require eligible users to submit documentation to verify their ages. 'For failed age verification, an additional $20/mo. per line charge will apply unless the customer calls to cancel or change plans,' AT&T says. For seniors looking for even bigger savings, the company is offering an additional deal that bundles '2 wireless lines + AT&T Internet 300 or AT&T Internet Air for $99/mo plus taxes and fees.'

Why Lumen isn't pitching itself as a telco
Telcos aren't innovative enough and have ceded too much ground to big tech, says Lumen Technologies President and CEO Kate Johnson. Why it matters: After selling its mass market fiber business to AT&T for $5.75 billion in late May, Lumen has pivoted to supporting and building an infrastructure for AI services. "Telecom, in general, ceded innovation to the tech companies, to digital upstarts, to other industries…but didn't really think about value-added services," Johnson told Axios' Dan Primack at Axios' AI+ Summit in New York on Wednesday. Flashback: Last year, Lumen restructured its debt to bolster its enterprise business. Now, it's pitching the foundation for AI services and currently touts partnerships with Amazon, Microsoft, and Google Cloud. On stage, Johnson said the company has $8.5 billion in connectivity deals on the books. The deal with AT&T is expected to close in the first half of 2026. What they're saying:"AI needs data, data needs data centers, and those data centers need to be connected," Johnson said. It's been a tough sell and Wall Street remains unconvinced — the company's stock has fallen 30% since the start of the year.
