Even Americans Can Drive the 789-HP Opel Corsa GSE in the Virtual World

The Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo has been revealed ahead of its debut at the IAA auto show in Munich in September. The concept features a pair of electric motors that generate a combined 789 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, with a zero-to-62-mph time of 2.0 seconds. The Corsa GSE previews future electric performance models from the German brand and will be playable in the Gran Turismo video game this fall. SUVs have a commanding presence in the U.S. market, and while they are gaining ground in Europe, the hatchback is still clinging to its position atop the transportation hierarchy in the Old World. Europe's longtime obsession with city cars has birthed a rich list of hot hatches, offering performance and driving engagement to the masses. Now Opel, a German brand formerly owned by General Motors and now part of the vast Stellantis stable, has revealed the eye-catching Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo, a concept that previews how the hot hatch could transform in the electric future. A Concept You Can Drive, At Least Virtually As the latter part of the name suggests, this concept has been designed for the Gran Turismo video game and will join the game's lineup of playable vehicles this fall. The concept has also been shown under the British brand Vauxhall, with Opel and Vauxhall having shared models for over 20 years. Stellantis The Corsa GSE's electric powertrain produces 789 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque from a pair of electric motors, with one on each axle for all-wheel drive. The GSE is fitted with a single-speed transmission and a boost function, which injects an extra 79 hp for up to four seconds. After being used, the boost function can be recharged in four 20-second segments. Opel says the Corsa GSE tips the scales at just 2579 pounds, thanks to the use of lightweight materials and the fact that the battery only measures 82 kWh. With that much power and a relatively low weight, the Corsa GSE is incredibly quick, zipping from zero to 62 mph in 2.0 seconds and topping out at 199 mph. Stellantis Opel also packed the Corsa GSE with active aerodynamics, with the rear diffuser and spoiler adjusting their angles of attack for either increasing downforce when braking and turning or reducing drag when accelerating. The sleek disc-like wheels, which sport a three-spoke design, also help minimize turbulence in the wheel arches. Muscular, Rally-Inspired Styling The Corsa GSE oozes performance with its brawny bodywork and vibrant yellow accents. Although it has a similar footprint to the standard Corsa, a subcompact hatchback measuring 159.8 inches from nose to tail, the concept is around five inches longer and is significantly wider and lower, at 73.6 inches and 55.1 inches, respectively. Within those diminutive dimensions, the Corsa GSE packs a lot of attitude. The bodywork is covered in sharp creases and the bulging fenders make the hatchback look planted. Up front, a slim black trim piece, which Opel calls the "Vizor," houses thin LED headlights and an illuminated badge. Vertical LED light strips above and below the Opel logo signal the center of the car, a motif that appears again at the rear. Stellantis The black front wheel arches are fashioned from Bcomp, which Opel says is a lightweight, strong material made from flax that is similar to carbon fiber but more environmentally friendly. The Corsa GSE sits on a staggered setup, with 21-inch front wheels and 22-inch rear wheels, both attached via Bilstein pushrod suspension. The cabin is simple, with a mostly blank white dashboard and an octagonal steering wheel. Key information is communicated via a head-up display, and the driver's seat features a six-point harness. Opel says the car serves as a preview for upcoming GSE performance models, and while we will likely never see anything like the Corsa GSE concept in the United States, we're glad to see that Opel is brainstorming how to keep the hot hatchback alive and well as Europe continues its push towards electrification. Suntory Aims To Become The Number 1 Ready-To-Drink Company In World

Eric Schuetzler shows off some of Suntory's RTD offerings, including -196 and On the Rocks. Suntory Suntory wants to be the number one ready-to-drink company in the world. 'Suntory's ambition is to be the number one RTD company in the world,'says Carol Robert, managing director U.S. ready-to-drink at Suntory Global Spirits. 'RTD as a category continues to grow exponentially,' says Eric Schuetzler, vice president of global research and development. 'We believe this trend is here to stay. We believe this is going to be a huge part of the beverage space for us to play in.' Right now, Suntory is ranked third globally, and it is the number one RTD company in Japan, also leading in markets like Australia, Germany and Canada. As a company, Suntory has been in the RTD space for decades. 'RTD development at Suntory is backed by more than 100 years of distilling, blending and flavor mastery,' Robert says. 'We used that expertise to enter the RTD space in the early 1990s with a gin and tonic offering and a Super Chi-Hi.' 'RTD development at Suntory is backed by more than 100 years of distilling, blending and flavor mastery,' Robert says. Carol Robert In 2005, Suntory introduced the -196 Vodka Seltzer in Japan in 2005, and 'we have continued innovating since then,' Robert says. Earlier this year, the -196 line unveiled in the United States. 'The U.S. is a priority market,' Schuetzler says. That priority makes sense. Grand View Research says the U.S. ready-to-drink cocktail market size is estimated at $903.4 million in 2024 and is expected to reach $1.03 billion in 2025, It's projected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 15.4% from 2025 to 2030, increasing to $2.11 billion by 2030. According to IWSR, the RTD category is forecast to more than double its 2019 share of total beverage alcoholic servings by 2028. 'RTDs are popular with many different consumers because they offer a wide variety of options and meet so many different needs,' Robert says. 'We do see that RTDs are especially popular among younger generations who are seeking exciting flavor experiences but do not want to commit to a full bottled spirit.' Flavor expertise and technical prowess will help Suntory grow its market share, Schuetzler and Roberts say. For example, for -196, Suntory uses a freeze crush process in which whole fruits - lemons, strawberries, etc - are frozen in liquid nitrogen at -196 degrees Celsius. 'That's 11 times as cold as your freezer,' Schuetzler says. 'We're getting the whole fruit infused into the vodka. That makes the final product deliver something no one else can.' On the Rocks is a bartender-led ready-to-drink brand. Suntory Another innovative brand in the Suntory line is On the Rocks bottled and canned cocktails. 'We just launched a new campaign for On The Rocks called 'Make It A Cocktail,'' Robert says. 'The campaign challenges the idea that cocktails are only for special occasions.' Growth for Suntory will be fueled by authenticity and quality, Schuetzler says. 'We don't have to shield anything when we talk about our RTDs,' Schuetzler says. 'If you look at any RTD in our portfolio, you should see the products in it, in the way it's represented, and in the way that you perceive it when you consume it.' 'Our goal is to deliver extraordinary experiences for consumers, so that means continuing to expand On The Rocks and -196 with new flavors and to develop new-to-the-world offerings, too,' Robert says.

Bugatti Is Sold Out Until 2029

The automotive industry is volatile. Emerging technologies, changing government regulations, tariffs, and fickle consumer trends make planning for the next model year a Herculean effort of hope and stress. It's why so many automakers play it safe with their products, but there are outliers, like Bugatti . Demand for the brand's newest hypercars is so high that any potential buyers will have to wait years for their car, if they can order one at all. And that's good for the bespoke automaker. Bugatti's design director, Frank Heyl, told CarBuzz that the brand has so many orders that it makes it easy for Bugatti to 'plan ahead.' 'It's all set,' he said. Heyl told the publication that finishing up Bolide production and beginning to build the Tourbillon would keep it busy for the next four years and that it's sold out until 2029. 'If you have this [financial stability] as a business owner, it works out very solid,' he said. That gives Bugatti plenty of time to figure out what comes after the Tourbillon , a hybrid hypercar with three electric motors and an 8.4-liter V-16 engine. It makes 1,800 horsepower , which can propel the car to 60 miles per hour in just 2.0 seconds. It also costs around $4 million to start, but good luck getting one. If you have the cash for that kind of performance, and haven't already placed your Tourbillon order, you'll have to set a reminder for 2029 to see what Bugatti cooks up next. The company has plenty of time to figure it out, and we're already excited to see it.
