Vijay Rupani death: Former Gujarat CM killed in Ahmedabad Air India plane crash
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani died on Thursday after an Air India aircraft carrying him and 241 others crashed near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport airport in Ahmedabad in the afternoon, Union minister C R Patil said. Rupani, 68, was the chief minister from 2016 till 2021, after winning the Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections from Rajkot West seat. The London-bound flight AI 171 was carrying 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian national, apart from two pilots and 10 cabin crew members.

College teachers await 7th pay panelimplementation
Ludhiana: The 7th pay commission is yet to be implemented in aided colleges, despite Punjab govt promising to do so three years ago. The govt has been making tall claims about bringing about a revolution in education, but nothing has been done about higher education, members of Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU) have alleged. Varun Goel of the Union recently said though the Centre is considering bringing about the 8th pay commission, Punjab govt is yet to implement even the 7th pay. "It is shameful that the CM had made the announcement on Sept 5, 2022 in Anandpur Sahib, which happens to be the constituency of education minister Harjot Bains, that from October that year the 7th pay commission would be implemented in the aided colleges of Punjab, but nothing has been done until now." More than 2,000 sactioned teaching posts out of 3,600 are lying vacant in aided colleges across Punjab. Vinay Sophat, vice-president, All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organisation (AIFUCTO), said, "The govt had put a ban on recruitment of teachers in aided colleges. Similar is the case with non-teaching staff. Canada-based dentist killed in crash was returning after attending family function
Vadodara: Dr Nirali Patel, a Canadian citizen and dentist originally from Ahmedabad, was among the victims of the Air India flight crash on Thursday. Nirali, who practised dentistry in Ontario along with her husband, Dr Devesh Shukla of Lunawada, was the only Canadian national on board. The couple had settled in Ontario and were raising their son there. Nirali had travelled to India alone to attend a social function, while Devesh and their child remained in Canada. She was returning home when tragedy struck. Devesh, son of former Lunawada municipality president Tarlika Shukla, is expected to arrive in India soon along with their son for the final rites. The Shukla family, known for their longstanding association with the BJP, is in deep shock. Several close relatives of the couple are also based abroad. JPSC to pay Rs 1L to candidate in recruitment case
Ranchi: Jharkhand high court on Friday imposed a cost of Rs 1 lakh on the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), while dismissing an appeal filed by the latter against a candidate. The division bench headed by Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao while dismissing the appeal upheld the order of a single judge and imposed the cost of Rs 1 lakh on the Commission which is to be paid to the petitioner, Manoj Kumar Kachhap, in eight weeks. Kachhap had filed a petition before the single bench of the HC stating that he was a candidate and had applied for the post of assistant professor in 2018. He appeared for the exams after scrutiny of his documents by the commission. But at the time of interview, he was told that the fees deposited for the exam was not credited in JPSC's account and therefore his candidature could not be considered. Kachhap told the court that he wasn't informed about it before the interview. In another matter, the high court imposed a cost of Rs 8,000 on former chief minister Madhu Koda for seeking adjournment in a case for the fourth time.
