BOBCARD, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank of Baroda that offers a range of credit cards, has announced a slew of changes for its customers from July 1. While BOBCARD users can now earn core reward points for utility bill payments, they must accumulate a minimum of 1000 reward points for redemptions.
'Starting 1st July 2025, your utility bill payments (MCC 4900) like electricity, gas, water, etc., will now earn you core reward points,' BOBCARD said in its communication to customers. 'Effective 1st July 2025, reward point redemption against statement balance will require a minimum of 1000 points across all credit card variants,' it said.
The auto redemption of reward points on SNAPDEAL BOBCARD has been discontinued from July 1. 'Going forward, cardholders must initiate manual redemption via the BOBCARD Portal or Mobile App. These changes will also be reflected on the respective product pages at www.bobcard.co.in,' BOBCARD said.
BOBCARD has also revised the finance charges for most of its credit cards. 'The finance charge for all BOBCARD variants will be revised to 3.75% per month (45% annualized) - except for BOBCARD ETERNA, BOBCARD ETERNA FD, and BOBCARD TIARA,' it said.

Credit cards have been increasingly reducing benefits. In some cases, they have withdrawn them totally in a bid to curb wrong usage. Several leading card issuers had capped reward points for popular spending categories.
They have stipulated a higher spending threshold for availing certain services such as airport lounge access. Rent payments, government-related spending and education payments have been excluded from spend thresholds by many card issuing banks.

Sarpanch threatened, 3.4cr extorted from him

Surat: A gang extorted Rs 3.4 crore from the sarpanch of Mandir village in Jalalpore taluka of Navsari district, by threatening to kill him and his two sons. Devang Desai (52) was shown firearms and threatened into paying the money, starting in Oct 2023. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Jalalpore police have booked three persons for extortion and criminal intimidation. Navsari superintendent of police Sushil Agrawal handed over the investigation to the local crime branch (LCB). According to the FIR, Desai is a farmer and has been sarpanch of Mandir village for three years. He lives with his mother, wife and two sons. In Oct 2023, he received a call from an Amalsad man, Rajesh alias Mohammad Isaq Memon, who expressed interest in buying Desai's land. When Desai went to meet him, Memon showed him a gun and told him that he had got a 'supari' (murder contract) to kill him and his sons, for Rs 20 lakh. Memon demanded Rs 60 lakh to not kill Desai and his sons. He later agreed to settle for Rs 40 lakh. Desai paid him the money within a month, after selling nine bighas of his land. Days later, Desai got a call from Memon, who told him to speak to his boss and handed over his phone. One 'Rajabhai from Mumbai' told Desai that he would save him and his sons and tell him who put out the murder contract when they met. A week later, Memon called Desai to the Ashapuri temple and from there took him to a deserted spot where a black car was parked. They got into the car and met 'Rajabhai' and one 'Sherabhai', who was holding a gun. Rajabhai threatened Desai, saying he would have to pay Rs 5 crore to not be killed. When Desai told them he did not have the money, they told him to pay Rs 3 crore. A few days later, Memon called Desai and told him that he had paid Rs 3 crore to Rajabhai and demanded the money. Desai had recently got Rs 1.7 crore from the sale of two land parcels, which he gave to Memon. He also borrowed Rs 42 lakh from Bank of Baroda by putting up gold as collateral and gave that money to Memon. He mortgaged his dairy land for Rs 34 lakh and borrowed Rs 42 lakh from relatives, paying a total of Rs 3 crore to Memon by Dec 2024. A few months later, he read a news article on people who had been cheated in Navsari and found the names similar to those who had extorted the money from him. He filed a complaint with police on Monday.

Indian companies post satisfactory Q4 results despite global challenges: Bank of Baroda Report

Corporate performance of Indian companies in the fourth quarter of financial year 2025 remained satisfactory despite a tough global economic environment , according to a recent report by Bank of Baroda. The report highlighted that most companies are optimistic about their future growth prospects, and there is potential for further improvement once consumption demand picks up in FY26. It said "Corporate performance in Q4 FY25 was on the whole satisfactory and there is scope for an upward movement once consumption pick up in FY26. Importantly, despite a challenging global environment, companies remain positive on future growth prospects". The Bank of Baroda report pointed out that certain sectors are already showing signs of recovery. Sectors linked to infrastructure are experiencing steady growth even though they are being compared to a high base from last year. In the case of consumer-related sectors like FMCG and consumer durables, strong rural demand and seasonal factors have played a key role in supporting recovery. The services sector has also continued to grow at a steady pace, driven by strong demand. The report noted that stable commodity prices, low inflation in India, a favourable monsoon outlook, trade agreements, government spending on infrastructure, and tax benefits are expected to be important drivers of growth and demand in the coming months. According to the report, in Q4 FY25, aggregate net sales of a sample of 1,893 companies increased by 5.4 per cent, while net profits rose by 7.6 per cent. Expenses and interest costs remained under control, which helped improve the debt repayment ability of companies. However, some slowdown in sales was seen in large sectors such as oil and gas, textiles, and iron and steel. This had a negative impact on the overall performance of the sample. But the report suggested that this is likely a one-time occurrence and not a long-term concern. Similarly, the BFSI (banking, financial services, and insurance) sector, which performed strongly last year, saw some moderation in growth. This has been linked to a slowdown in credit growth. Overall, the report painted a positive picture of India Inc.'s performance in Q4 FY25 and suggests that companies are well-positioned to benefit from improving demand and supportive policy measures in the next financial year.
