A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged in a shooting near Detroit's Stoepel Park that killed another man and injured a third earlier this month, police said Friday. According to court records, Joshua Watts is charged with one count each of first-degree premeditated murder, causing death by discharging a firearm from a vehicle, causing injury by discharging a firearm from a vehicle, assault with intent to murder, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and five counts of felony firearm. The Detroit Police Department says it's alleged that Watts planned to meet Leothis Daniels and Julian Hill, both 20, at the park to smoke marijuana during the evening of Aug. 2. When Watts saw the men at the park, he started shooting at their vehicle, police said. Daniels and Hill were taken to the hospital, where Daniels later died. Watts was taken into custody by the Michigan State Police for an unrelated shooting that happened after Aug. 2, according to officials.

Woman fatally shoots home invader in Joliet, Illinois, police say

A man was fatally shot during an attempted home invasion Friday night in Joliet, Illinois. Joliet police said around 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 7000 block of Hadrian Drive for a report of a home invasion. Officers found signs of forced entry upon arriving. Inside, an unresponsive man was found on the second floor with a gunshot wound to the head. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. A woman and her baby were found in an adjacent bedroom. The woman was in possession of a handgun. A preliminary investigation indicated the woman and her child hid in a bedroom closet, and she armed herself after hearing someone forcibly entering the home. Police said the man entered the bedroom and the victim fired a shot, hitting him in the head. The suspect, who is not known to the victim, was wearing gloves and in possession of a screwdriver at the time of the incident. Investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and the victim is fully cooperating with detectives. Identification of the suspect and the manner of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner's Office. Man dies after being shot multiple times in St. Paul early Saturday

Police in St. Paul, Minnesota, are investigating a shooting they say left a man dead early Saturday morning, bringing the city's homicide total for the year to eight. According to St. Paul police, officers were called to the 300 block of Edmund Avenue for a report of a shooting around 4:15 a.m. There, officers found a man lying in the street, adding that he had been shot multiple times. He was brought to Regions Hospital, but died there from his injuries. His name and age haven't been released. No one is currently in custody for the shooting, and investigators are also working to figure out what led up to the shooting and identify the person who pulled the trigger.
