Valencia CF secures $377 million financing for Nou Mestalla stadium

SINGAPORE (Reuters) -Valencia CF has secured financing totaling 322 million euros ($377 million) for the development of the Nou Mestalla stadium, the Spanish football club said on Thursday.
The financing, comprising 237 million euros of notes and 85 million euros of a short-term loan, is one of the biggest transactions ever completed by a professional football club in Spain and across Europe, Valencia said in a statement.
"Securing this landmark financing gives us the green light to deliver Nou Mestalla - a world-class stadium that will power the club's growth for generations," Kiat Lim, Valencia CF President, said in the statement. Lim is the son of Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim, who is the club's majority owner.
The stadium, which is located in the city of Valencia and will have over 70,000 seats, is scheduled to open in 2027. It is expected to multiply the revenue currently generated at its old Mestalla facility, Valencia CF said.
"Given the expanded hospitality, greater capacity, and multi-purpose event hosting, early estimates suggest that we will be more than tripling the current revenue," Kiat Lim said.
Valencia CF was advised by Bibium Capital, Addleshaw Goddard, Beka Titulizacion and Goldman Sachs, with Spain's La Liga providing support to the club in the process, according to the statement.

The Australian is 22 points clear of Norris after winning five of the 10 races so far, with 14 remaining including Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix. Norris failed to score in Montreal after running into the back of Piastri's car while trying to pass for fourth place late in the race. Piastri said he and Norris, who accepted blame, had cleared the air already after the race and there were no changes to the rules of engagement. "We're still free to race, still fighting for a championship each. So, no, keep going racing and make sure that we don't come into contact again," he said on Thursday of the outcome of talks after Canada. Asked about his "healthy" lead and whether he might seek preferential treatment, Piastri questioned the reporter's take on the situation. "Your version of healthy is much bigger than mine," he said. "I just want, and we all want, a fair opportunity trying to win both championships. Especially in the Drivers' Championship because ultimately it can only be one of us. "I think the situation has to change dramatically to start having those conversations, and they're a very long way away at the moment. "So at the moment, all I can ask for is a fair chance to try and win the championship, and that's what I want as well. No, I'm not willing to enter those talks at all." McLaren have won seven of the 10 races, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen taking two and Mercedes George Russell triumphant in Canada. Austrian Marko, 82 and a former racer who was blinded in one eye after a stone pierced his visor during the 1972 French Grand Prix in Clermont-Ferrand, has a contract until the end of next year. Vettel, 37, won consecutive titles with Red Bull from 2010-13 and retired in 2022 after stints at Ferrari and Aston Martin.
