NBC News2 days ago
New York police on Monday were still looking for a man who allegedly threw a sex toy during a WNBA game, striking a little girl in attendance, official said.
The NYPD on Friday released a photo and a short video clip of a man wearing a "Beavis and Butt-Head" t-shirt and Ohio State cap at the New York Liberty-Dallas Wings game on Tuesday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
That suspect on Tuesday at about 8:45 p.m. EDT, "inside 620 Atlantic Avenue, NYPD 78 Precinct, an unidentified individual threw an object which struck a 12-year-old female victim in the right leg," according to police.
The search was still active on Monday, police said.
The incident in Brooklyn was the latest of men throwing sex toys toward WNBA players over the past two weeks.
The trend appeared start on July 29 when a sex toy landed on the floor of a Golden State Valkyries game against the Atlanta Dream in College Park, Georgia.
Two men, so far, have been arrested in connection to the Georgia and Phoenix incidents.
'The safety of everyone in our arenas remains a top priority," a WNBA spokesperson said.
"We are working closely with local and federal law enforcement to pursue all appropriate actions — including arrest and prosecution with felony charges where applicable — against anyone engaged in this conduct or otherwise involved in sponsoring this reckless and unacceptable behavior.'

Ex-WNBA star Sophie Brunner's mom killed in head-on crash with illegal immigrant with history of driving drunk

Former WNBA star Sophie Brunner's mother was killed in a head-on crash with an illegal immigrant who has a history of driving drunk, according to authorities in Illinois. Darcy Connolly-Brunner, 61, was struck when Rolando Ico-Choc, a 30-year-old Guatemalan national, crossed over into the wrong lane in Freeport on Saturday afternoon, the Stephenson County Sheriff's office said. The migrant, who had a rap sheet including prior DUIs, was also killed in the wreck, according to officials. 3 Darcy Connolly-Brunner was killed in a car accident over the weekend. Family Handout Authorities are now probing whether Ico-Choc was under the influence at the time of the double fatality. They have already said there is no indication the mom-of-four was drunk. In the wake of the tragedy, Sen. Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) said Ico-Choc was in the US illegally and was known to Homeland Security. 'A woman who dedicated her life to her family and her community was killed in broad daylight by a man who never should have been in this country or on the road,' Chesney said in a statement. 'His criminal record includes prior charges of DUI, aggravated (felony) DUI, and battery. Additionally, it was confirmed by the US Department of Homeland Security that he was in this country illegally, having crossed the border a few years ago during the Biden administration.' 3 The fatal crash happened in Freeport, Ill. on Saturday afternoon. 'Over the last few years, this man was shielded by systems that provide sanctuary to illegal immigrants and are more focused on allowing criminals to walk free than on protecting Illinois citizens,' Chesney said. 'I am not going to sit by silently while dangerous repeat offenders who are in this country illegally are given free rein to destroy lives.'

NYPD cops shoot 22-year-old felon who was in gunfight with another, still-at-large suspect

NYPD cops interrupted a gunfight in Brooklyn on Tuesday evening — shooting a 22-year-old felon let out on parole just two months ago while the other gunman fled the scene, according to authorities. Cops patrolling Ocean Avenue in Prospect Park South around 7:30 p.m. heard gunfire and saw two suspects shooting at each other — making a split-second decision to intervene, NYPD officials said. 'Tonight our officers ran towards gunfire and they bravely and immediately confronted a dangerous situation,' Assistant Chief at Patrol Borough Brooklyn South Frank Giordano said during a press conference Tuesday evening. Officers patrolling Ocean Avenue saw the gunfight and quickly exited their patrol cars, drew their weapons, and fired at the suspect who was closest to them. William Miller Officers quickly exited their patrol cars, drew their weapons, and fired at one suspect who was closest to them — the 22-year-old felon recently sprung from jail, the officials said. Both officers were brought to a local hospital for evaluation as well, officials added. Bauduy was arrested in 2021 when he was just 18 years old for another shooting incident in Brooklyn. Edynesson Bauduy, a two-time convicted violent felon currently on parole until 2030, was struck by at least one bullet. William Farrington After the shooting, he was released from custody and arrested again for a violent commercial robbery in South Brooklyn, Giordano detailed. The young offender pleaded guilty to both indictments, receiving a concurrent sentence, and was released from prison just two months ago on June 10, police said. 'If he received a consecutive sentence for his two distinct violent crimes, he would not be out on the streets right now, involved in yet another shooting that endangers our public,' Giordano told reporters. Once again, our officers confronted a dangerous situation, an armed individual, and did exactly what they were trained to do,' he said. The second suspect fled the scene toward Church Avenue, and his exact location is currently unknown, officials added. One gun and several casings were recovered from the scene, cops said. The incident remains under investigation.
