Man faces attempted murder charge for deliberately driving into Campbell pedestrian

Yahoo28-04-2025

(KRON) — A man accused of intentionally driving into a pedestrian after the two were involved in an argument has been arrested on an attempted murder charge, the Campbell Police Department announced Monday.
Authorities responded on April 17 at 9:37 p.m. to 260 East Campbell Avenue on the report of a hit-and-run crash. Arriving officers learned that two men were in a verbal dispute before one man, identified by police as 24-year-old Mardin Gevargiz, got into his black BMW and intentionally ran down the other man, police said.

The victim survived the collision and was released from the hospital on the following day.
Investigators used surveillance video and automated license plate readers to trace the BMW to Gevargiz, Campbell police said. In a photo lineup, the victim identified Gevargiz as the suspect.
A search warrant at Gevargiz's residence on Friday uncovered a semi-automatic rifle featuring a detachable magazine and a pistol grip, which, according to Campbell police, meets the definition of an assault weapon.
Gevargiz was arrested for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury and illegally possessing an assault weapon.
