A 24-year-old man suspected of intentionally running someone over following an argument in Campbell earlier this month is in custody, police said Monday. Mardin Gevargiz was arrested Friday at his San Jose home, on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury, according to Campbell police. Officers were called to a hit-and-run about 9:37 p.m. on April 17, at 260 E Campbell Ave. A caller told dispatchers that a black BMW was driving erratically and hit a man before driving away. South Bay dine-and-dasher busted after skipping out on $1K in sushi bills

The Brief Randy Musterer, the owner of Sushi Confidential, said a serial dine-and-dasher has racked up a $1,000 debt in sushi and beer. Musterer said the culprit had hit his San Jose and Campbell locations. He said the suspect was finally arrested. CAMPBELL, Calif. - An alleged serial dine-and-dasher's luck ran out after he was busted in Campbell, thanks in part to a sushi restaurant where he had repeatedly skipped out on the bill. Randy Musterer, owner of Sushi Confidential, which has locations in Campbell and San Jose, posted videos to Instagram showing the suspect in action. What they're saying Musterer said the man targeted his restaurants over two months, racking up $1,000 in unpaid sushi and beer. He said waitstaff was on alert and had the suspect's photo in case he returned. "Campbell staff spotted him dining alone on the patio—hat and hoodie on, trying to stay under the radar. We played it smart: served his food, then immediately closed out his check to see how he'd react," Mustere wrote on Monday. "Sure enough, he asked where the bathroom was—classic move to sneak out the back. Our busser anticipated it, ran to the other exit, and caught him in the act. The thief panicked, walked back through the restaurant, and bolted out the front door." Musterer said he called the Campbell Police Department's non-emergency line and went looking for the suspect himself. He said officers searched the downtown area for 20 minutes to no avail. Then Musterer said he spotted the man near another restaurant, called police again, and within minutes, officers made an arrest. "Turns out, he also had a warrant for his arrest," Musterer said. "One less thief on the streets—and hopefully, one less restaurant dealing with his scams. Justice served!" The Campbell Police Department has not yet responded to a request for comment on the incident. The Source Randy Musterer of Sushi Confidential

Musterer said the man had stolen a total of almost $1,000 from both of his restaurants. Restaurant employees were given a photo of the suspect in case he returned, and employees at the Campbell location saw him Sunday night donning a hat and hoodie. Accused Campbell water tower vandal facing drug, weapons charges

A man accused of vandalizing the landmark water tower in the City of Campbell is facing additional charges after he was arrested two more times. According to the Campbell Police Department, 24-year-old Briley Bodemar was arrested in the early morning hours on Jan. 12 after he was found on the water tower. Bodemar was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of felony vandalism, possession of graffiti tools and resisting arrest. In an update Friday, police said Bodemar was linked to additional vandalism throughout the county, along with allleged drug and weapons offenses. Following his initial arrest, Bodemar was released under the Supervised Own Recognizance Program, or SORP. Under the SORP program, a judge may require certain conditions, such as monitoring. Police said Bodemar was the passenger in a vehicle involved in a traffic collision on South Bascom Avenue on the morning of Jan. 21. Due to his SORP status, officers conducted a search and found a controlled substance in his possession, along with drugs and equipment for drug sales in the vehicle. Bodemar was booked into jail on suspicion of possessing and transporting drugs with the intent to sell. He had posted bail the next day, police said. On Jan. 29, detectives served a search warrant at Bodemar's home. Police said they found a loaded, unregistered handgun, controlled substances, a "large quantity" of marijuana and other equipment for drug processing and sales. Following the search, Bodemar was arrested a third time on multiple charges, including possessing a controlled substance while armed, illegal possession of a firearm and operating a location for drug sales. He posted bail the following day. "This case highlights the relentless efforts of our officers and detectives, who go above and beyond to ensure criminals do not continue their illegal activities in Campbell," Chief Gary Berg said in a statement. Police did not say when he would appear in court on the charges.
