Patriots To Keep Stefon Diggs Amid Rumors
Patriots To Keep Stefon Diggs Amid Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The New England Patriots needed to acquire some playmakers to provide some help for their second-year star quarterback, Drake Maye. It looked like the Patriots were going to wait for the draft until they went out and signed star receiver Stefon Diggs to a three-year, $69 million deal. Diggs is coming off a torn ACL and could be out until around week four.

Diggs has only been on the team for a few months and has already faced some adversity. First, there was a video of Stefon Diggs out on the boat during OTAs that caused him to receive a lot of backlash. Since Diggs is supposed to be rehabbing and getting ready for the season, it was a bad look, and the media tore him apart.
It did not help that he followed this by not being present for the start of OTAs. This had people questioning if Diggs was really dedicated to returning from his injury or if he was just cruising by. There was even an interview with Mike Vrabel where he told the media he talked to Stefon Diggs but refused to give up any specific details about their conversation.
All this led to rumors of Diggs' tenure ending with the Patriots before it even started. A lot of talk went around that the Patriots would potentially cutting Stefon Diggs before the season started. The boat, missing OTAs, and rumors about Diggs' charecter made it seem like he might not have been the guy for the Patriots.
This would have left the Patriots back with minimal playmakers again and limited options for where to find more. The Patriots finally signed a true first-option wide receiver, and it seemed like it was not going to work out. That was until Diggs returned to OTAs.

Diggs came back and looked good for where he is in the recovery stage of his ACL. There was even a clip of Diggs helping out and working with some of the Patriots' younger receivers. Diggs could potentially be ready for the start of the NFL season, and with the way he looked at OTA's it is starting to look like more of a possibility.
It seemed like everything was okay, and the rumors about Diggs may have been blown out of proportion, and that is exactly what it was. NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted earlier today that, despite the rumors, the Patriots have no intention of releasing Stefon Diggs. He said the team has high hopes for Diggs and that his showing up to OTAs was a good thing that the team took notice of.
He also linked a clip from Instagram of him on NFL Network talking about the situation. He said that OTAs are optional workouts, and there are tons of veteran guys around the league who don't show up. He also said that although they are voluntary workouts that today's OTAs seem as close to mandatory as it gets. After the video of him on the boat, it was important for him to redeem himself and show the team his dedication, and he did just that by coming to OTAs.

The video ended with him saying that Patriots like Diggs, and they want to keep him. He noted that Diggs needed to make better decisions going forward, and his showing up to OTAs was a step in the right direction.
Diggs had 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns in eight games with the Texans before tearing his ACL. He has passed his physical, and with the way he is looking already, he should be able to make a scary duo with Drake Maye. It can only go up from here for Diggs and the Patriots, and as long as he shows what he can do on the field without making any more mistakes off it, then the Patriots should be excited about their new receiver.

Solomon Thomas Could Be a Key Contributor for Dallas Cowboys
Solomon Thomas Could Be a Key Contributor for Dallas Cowboys originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Cowboys signed veteran defensive lineman Solomon Thomas this offseason to help mitigate the loss of underrated contributor Chauncey Golston. Although Golston wasn't a star edge rusher or game-wrecking defensive tackle, he was a versatile force who had the ability to play both inside and outside along the defensive line. Advertisement Thomas - given his Draft Day pedigree - has the potential to be an upgrade over Golston in Matt Eberflus' defensive scheme. Thomas is a former top-five overall pick and has earned over $41 million in his career. ... And he's ready to re-earn his keep now that he's back in DFW. The Coppell High School graduate is excited to play close to home and build upon the winning culture in the Cowboys organization. "It's been awesome, it's been really cool just being part of the team. Being home for me has been awesome," Thomas said. "Coach Schotty has been doing an amazing job just getting the energy right and culture right here." Advertisement "Guys are excited every day, there's enthusiasm every day, it's feeling like a family. I've only been here like a few weeks, but being around the team everyone feels close, it's a very college like atmosphere." Thomas stands 6-3, 295 pounds, and likely will primarily be deployed on the interior of the defensive line, as the Cowboys have a rock-solid group of young edge rushers—including Micah Parsons, Sam Williams, Marshawn Kneeland, Donovan Ezeuiruaku, Dante Fowler, and Payton Turner. Aside from Osa Odighizuwa, the interior defensive line is a major question mark. Defensive tackle Mazi Smith is hoping to live up to his first-round draft selection by continuing to develop, and the emergence of rookie defensive tackle Jay Toia during OTAs is intriguing but let's not put too much pressure on the kid. Advertisement Thomas, now 29, could serve as a key rotational piece throughout the season for the Cowboys and hopefully have a late-career resurgence. ... with a reach deep inside himself for all of that untapped potential. Malik Hooker Avoids Major Injury During OTAs
Malik Hooker Avoids Major Injury During OTAs originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Cowboys continued their offseason program this past Tuesday and there were some notable takeaways during the OTA practice from inside The Star, where Mike Fisher was present. Advertisement Promising young defenders DeMarvion Overshown and Sam Williams were working with the rehab group as they push towards returning to the field this season. Elite wide receiver George Pickens sported his new No. 3 jersey and made plays all over the field. Now for the bad news. While the Cowboys are anticipating the return of several key players, starting safety Malik Hooker suffered an injury that forced him to leave practice early. We now are told that Hooker was dealing with back spasms and the word is that the defensive back will be fine for Thursday's OTAs. Hooker is arguably one of the Cowboys' most underrated players and has brought stability and playmaking to the free safety position since his arrival in 2021. Advertisement The former Ohio State Buckeye was selected 15th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Hooker has always been an undeniably talented football player but a devastating torn Achilles in 2020 with the Colts was a setback. Hooker was recently ranked as a top 20 safety in the NFL by PFF's Zoltan Buday—further proving his value to the Cowboys. Buday ranked the top 32 players at the safety position but noted Hooker declined in 2024. "Following two strong seasons in which he ranked among the top 15 safeties in PFF overall grade, Hooker's play declined this past season. The Ohio State product's 65.3 PFF overall grade ranked only 42nd at the position. However, over the previous two seasons, he combined to allow just 19 receptions and three touchdowns in coverage,' Buday wrote. Advertisement With Matt Eberflus now in the fold as the new defensive coordinator in Dallas, Hooker will be in a system he is familiar with—one that will hopefully allow him to tap into his early career success. ... as he pushes on with good health.
