A Santa Monica resident was arrested Saturday after allegedly making a bomb threat near the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, which drew over 100,000 attendees for its opening weekend.
According to the Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD), 40-year-old Davis Darvish was taken into custody after he reportedly approached security personnel at the Agua Caliente Casino and threatened to carry out a bombing. The casino, situated approximately 17 miles from the Empire Polo Club — the site of the Coachella festival — promptly contacted law enforcement following the incident around 11 a.m.
Police swiftly identified Darvish's vehicle, a Tesla, and employed FLOCK ALPR (automated license plate recognition) technology to monitor its movement across the Coachella Valley. Cathedral City authorities notified security teams at the festival, while Palm Springs police located the car and detained Darvish just over an hour later at 12:11 p.m.
No explosives, weapons, or bomb-making materials were found either in Darvish's possession or in his vehicle, CCPD confirmed in a statement released Saturday evening.
Darvish was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio, with bail set at $1 million. The investigation remains ongoing.

College student charged in firebombing of Tesla cybertrucks in Missouri

A Tesla super charger is shown at one of the company's charging stations in San Juan Capistrano, California, U.S., May 30, REUTER Listen to article A 19-year-old college student has been arrested and charged with federal offenses for allegedly firebombing two Tesla Cybertrucks at a dealership in Missouri while home on spring break. Owen McIntire, a Boston-based student from Kansas City, was taken into custody in Massachusetts and appeared in US District Court on Friday. He faces charges of unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device and malicious damage by fire to property used in interstate commerce, according to the Department of Justice. The incident occurred just before midnight on March 17 at the Kansas City Tesla Center. A nearby police officer saw smoke rising from the lot and discovered a burning Cybertruck and a Molotov cocktail nearby, authorities said. The fire spread to a second vehicle and damaged two Tesla charging stations. The Cybertrucks were valued at over $105,000 each. Surveillance footage and forensic evidence, including DNA from a large hat found near the scene, allegedly link McIntire to the crime. Authorities said he was later seen on security cameras at Kansas City International Airport. "This arrest sends a clear message: firebombing private property will lead to prosecution and prison," said US Attorney General Pamela Bondi. The FBI and ATF are continuing their investigation, noting that this marks the second Tesla-targeted arson case in a week. Officials say Tesla locations across multiple states have recently faced similar acts of vandalism and arson. "These actions are illegal, dangerous, and will not be tolerated," said FBI Director Kash Patel. McIntire remains in federal custody. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Weezer bassist wife Jillian Lauren shot by LAPD during suspect search, booked for attempted murder

Jillian Lauren, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police and arrested for attempted murder after a chaotic law enforcement response to a hit-and-run in Los Angeles, according to officials. The incident unfolded Tuesday afternoon when California Highway Patrol and LAPD officers responded to a hit-and-run crash on a freeway near the Eagle Rock neighborhood. Three suspects fled the scene on foot. One individual exited his vehicle, climbed an embankment, and entered a nearby residential area. While officers were canvassing the neighborhood, they entered the backyard of a home where one of the suspects had fled. Lauren, whose home is next door and who is not believed to be connected to the suspects, appeared outside with a firearm in hand. Police say she ignored multiple commands to drop the weapon and allegedly pointed it at officers. They opened fire, striking her in the shoulder. Lauren then ran back into her home. About 30 minutes later, she and a babysitter emerged with their hands raised and surrendered. She was treated for a non-life-threatening injury at a nearby hospital and later booked for attempted murder. Officers say they recovered a 9mm handgun at the residence. The original suspect was taken into custody. The two other individuals involved in the hit-and-run remain at large. Lauren is an author best known for her memoir Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, which details her time as a guest of the Prince of Brunei. The incident occurred just days before Weezer is scheduled to perform at the Coachella music festival.
