Only Connect fans amused as contestants stumped by EastEnders round

Only Connect viewers were amused as the contestants struggled during an EastEnders round.
The BBC game show — in which the contestants have to decipher connections between a series of clues — is known for its challenging questions. So fans are often left wondering how the quizzers manage to do so well.
But the show which aired on Monday, 17 February included a round based on books written by stars of the BBC soap and the contestants found it tricky.
The episode of the show included difficult questions on a range of topics like science and history as usual. But it was the missing vowels section that caused problems.
The round was called 'Autobiographies of EastEnders cast members' and included four books penned by stars of the BBC soap. The first panel contained the letters "B FRTHY RDT" but the contenders just sat in puzzled silence staring at the screen.
"I'll start you off," said host Victoria Coren Mitchell, stepping in and telling them that the book was Before the Year Dot by late actor June Brown, who starred as Dot Cotton.

They didn't manage to get Rags to Richie by Alfie Moon actor Shane Richie either, although one contestant worked out that "FR MR GSTR CKY" was From Rags to Ricky by Sid Owen, who played the character Ricky Butcher.
They also failed when it came to Just a Mo, which was written by Laila Morse, who played Walford's Little Mo.
Fans admitted they were tickled to see the "super clever" contestants having a hard time with questions about the BBC soap.
"EastEnders on Only Connect - that's sorted them out..." one viewer joked on X.
"Not many EastEnders fans here," said another.
"Anyone else slightly amused that the super clever semi-finalists didn't get the EastEnders missing vowels questions," said someone else.
One fan quipped: "That missing vowels round was a travesty."
Another suggested it was fitting given that the soap is celebrating its 40th anniversary this week. "Nice to have a horrible EastEnders set of missing vowels this week (coincidence or well planned)," they commented.
Others brought up books they thought should have been included, such as Albert Square favourite Pam St Clement's (Pat Butcher) memoir. "EastEnders autobiography round and NO End of an Earring? Disappointed!" They posted.
Only Connect next airs at 8pm on BBC Two on Monday, 24 February.

Willow, 3, meets William and shares her crisps

When Prince William paused to greet three-year-old Willow during a visit to the Royal Cornwall Show, her family never expected a gift to exchange hands. They were taken aback when Willow reached up with a single Quaver - and even more surprised when the prince popped the savoury snack into his jacket pocket. "I don't think I've ever been offered a Quaver before," the prince said. "I'm going to save this and put it in my pocket for later." Grandmother Sharon Hart, who captured the moment on video, told the BBC: "It was a lovely genuine moment and a memory that we will never forget." Ms Hart, from Luxulyan, from Cornwall, said: "I guess he gets some very expensive presents and this was a first. "Willow always wants to be a princess, so the fact she met a real live prince - she thought that was incredible." The Prince of Wales visited the Royal Cornwall Show on Friday, where he toured the exhibits, spoke to visitors and sampled local produce, including Cornish Rattler cider. Prince William, the Duke of Cornwall, is a patron of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, the charity which organises the three-day show. Willow was attending with her family, including brothers Jude, six, and Noah, eight. Ms Hart, 65, said: "He was leaving the Duchy tent when he passed us. "We were just watching and hoping we'd get a glimpse when there was a commotion in front of us and before we knew it Willow was handing out a Quaver. "She's usually quite tight with her Quavers so it obviously meant a lot to her. "He was a real gent, he thanked her and told her he'd never been given a Quaver as a gift." Jodie Hart, Willow's mother, said: "She's had another packet of crisps today and said she wanted to share them with Prince William. "We told her he was probably a little busy." Ms Hart added: "What a lovely man he is and what a gentleman - our grandchildren were thrilled to see him, never mind talk to him. "He just made it so important, it was lovely. His humanity shone through." More news stories for Cornwall Listen to the latest news for Cornwall Follow BBC Cornwall on X, Facebook and Instagram. One of the BBC's best known TV chefs has announced that her cookery show has been cancelled by the broadcaster. And for me, that was a huge turning point because it's something I've done for the past 10 years. 'I was already on this steady trajectory of change and I was thinking about where I wanted my career to go, and when the BBC decided they didn't want to commission the show anymore, it really did kind of solidify everything for me, and it made me dig my heels in and think 'OK, I know where I want to be'.' BBC News website quotes a spokesperson for the broadcaster confirming: 'After several wonderful series we have made the difficult decision not to commission another cookery show with Nadiya Hussain at the moment.' The statement continued: 'Nadiya remains a much-valued part of the BBC family, and we look forward to working together on future projects.' Hussain's other series for the BBC have included Nadiya's Everyday Baking and Nadiya's Cook Once Eat Twice, as well as the documentary Nadiya: Anxiety and Me. Since her victory on The Great British Bake Off in 2015, Hussain has become one of the UK's most familiar cooking figures, including baking a cake to celebrate HM The Queen's 90th birthday, and writing books alongside her TV work. In the video she posted where she outlined difficulties of being a Muslim woman on screen, Hussain said she was moving in a 'positive direction', adding: 'I'm working on some new things, but for me it's about being my most authentic self, and working with people who believe my voice has a platform, and believing in my talent.' BBC cancels Nadiya Hussain's cooking show

Nadiya Hussain's cooking show has not been renewed by the BBC. The 40-year-old TV chef - who first found fame on 'The Great British Bake Off' back in 2015 - has taken to social media to announce that the BBC has decided not to renew any of her cooking shows. Nadiya said in an Instagram video: "The BBC have decided that they didn't want to commission a show. And for me, that was a huge turning point because it's something I've done for the past ten years. "I was already on this steady trajectory of change and I was thinking about where I wanted my career to go, and when the BBC decided they didn't want to commission the show anymore, it really did kind of solidify everything for me, and it made me dig my heels in and think 'OK, I know where I want to be.'" Nadiya is feeling excited and optimistic about her future in the TV industry. The chef also explained that she wants to have more "ownership" over her work moving forwards. She said: "It's been interesting because there have been lots of changes in my career, that I'm really excited about, I'm excited about taking back a bit of ownership of what I do, how I do it and who I work with, and that's given me a freedom I haven't had in the last ten years." Nadiya has hosted several cooking shows on the BBC - including 'Nadiya Bakes', 'Nadiya's Fast Flavours' and 'Nadiya's Simple Spices' - since winning 'Bake Off' back in 2015, while she has also become a regular contributor on 'The One Show'. The BBC has confirmed that it hopes to continue working with Nadiya moving forwards. A spokesperson for the broadcaster said: "After several wonderful series we have made the difficult decision not to commission another cookery show with Nadiya Hussain at the moment. "Nadiya remains a much-valued part of the BBC family, and we look forward to working together on future projects."
