Thug Life box office prediction day 1: Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, hit the screens on June 5 much to the delight of fans. The gangster drama has created a buzz in the industry as it marks the veteran actor's first collaboration with Mani Ratnam after Nayagan (1987). This is set to help it open to a strong response at the domestic box office.
Thug Life set to open well in India
Kamal Haasan, who suffered a setback when Indian 2 bombed at the box office, is back in the limelight because of his latest release Thug Life. According to Ramesh Bala, a trade analyst, the film is expected to open well at the box office. He feels that the day 1 figure will be around Rs 45 crore.
'Thug Life has created a good buzz. It features a successful combination. Moreover, AR Rahman is the music composer. The day 1 gross in India should be around Rs 45 crore,' he told Indiatimes.
If this happens, Thug Life will outperform Indian 2. The Shankar-directed vigilante thriller had earned nearly Rs 26 crore in the country on its first day. The film went on to make Rs 100 crore in its full run and ended up being a massive flop.

Around Tinsel Town >> HC hears case on Kamal Haasan's remark on Kannada; veteran actor postpones 'Thug Life' release in Karnataka After a major controversy erupted last week surrounding veteran actor Kamal Haasan's remarks on Kannada at the audio launch of his latest film 'Thug Life,' the actor's banner Raaj Kamal Films International approached the Karnataka High Court for the release of 'Thug Life' without disruption in Karnataka. The petition further added that the banner is not willing to screen the movie in the state unless an encouraging dialogue takes place with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. Following the same, the HC suggested that Kamal apologise for his remark and end the controversy; however, the veteran stood his ground and refused to apologise, opting not to release the film in Karnataka on June 5. The 'Vikram' star asserted he has always stood for the equal dignity of all Indian languages and remains opposed to the dominance of any one language over another. ‘Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi and NTR became stars with Bollywood remakes': RGV on South films' glory

Ram Gopal Varma recently commented on superstars Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Sr NTR and their popularity. The filmmaker highlighted that the South stars enjoy the glory they have today because of the remakes of Bollywood ventures back in the day. In an interview with India TV, RGV said, 'In the beginning, all four South Indian movie industries remade Amitabh from the 70s and 80s. Stars like Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, N T Ramarao and Rajkumar gained fame by acting in such remakes.' Continuing his remarks about films during the career gap Big B took during the 1990s, the filmmaker revealed that many music companies were producing movies to promote their soundtracks. RGV concluded his words with a comparison between young Bollywood filmmakers during the 1990s. The director revealed how many of them were interested and would easily connect with international films due to their English proficiency. However, on the other hand, South Indian cinema producers in the 1990s did not have the same interest in global cinema and mostly focused on making films that had a story with mass appeal. Recently, RGV made the headlines for an entirely different reason after his appearance with Anurag Kashyap in a podcast interview. During their conversation, the filmmakers were commenting on the extensive use of VFX and high production costs. With Kashyap detailing about the same, the Shiva director commented by taking his own film's example and said, 'I never consciously thought of making Satya at low cost. I was spending what was required, and it created authenticity and realism. If I had spent Rs. 5 crores more, Satya's quality would have been five times less.' Coming to RGV's work front, the filmmaker was last seen helming the project Saaree, a psychological thriller which received panned reviews from the audience and critics. Moreover, the filmmaker had made a cameo appearance in the film Kalki 2898 AD, starring alongside Prabhas. The movie directed by Nag Ashwin was an epic sci-fi film, taking its origins from the mythology of the Mahabharata. Apart from Prabhas, the movie had actors like Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and more in pivotal roles.

Housefull 5 Day 1 Box Office Trends: Akshay Kumar and team set for Rs 20 crore plus opening

The Akshay Kumar led Housefull 5 has taken a good start at the box office, as very early trends are indicating first day business in the north of Rs 20.00 crore, with the scope to go higher depending on the spot bookings for the evening and night shows. The advances were mediocre for a franchise film like Housefull, but the spot bookings have made the difference pushing the film towards a good opening. As on Friday at 4.15 PM, the Akshay Kumar led film has grossed Rs 8.40 crore in the national chains and is headed for a finish around the Rs 14.00 crore (NBOC: Rs 11.75 crore). The national chain contribution is expected to be around 53 percent to 55 percent, which indicates the first day business around the Rs 22 crore mark. There is a scope to go higher depending on the walk-ins, as comedies tend to perform the best in the evening and night shows with families coming on board. It's a non-holiday release, and Housefull 5 has recorded the biggest non-holiday start for not just Akshay Kumar but also the comic genre in general. There will be a spike in business on Saturday and the same is visible already in the advance booking trends, where the film has sold about 60,000 tickets in the national chains at 4 PM. The film is doing well in the non-national chains and single screens too, though there is a scope for the collections to be a lot better. The business is going up on a show by show basis in the single screens. Liberty (Delhi), sold 105 tickets in the morning show, followed by 252 tickets in noon and 858 tickets in matinee. The sales in Regent Patna grew from 119 tickets in the 9 AM show, to 613 tickets for the 3.30 PM show. Raj Mandir Jaipur is also showing an upward trajectory, with admits jumping from 221 at 9.15 AM show, to 868 for 3.15 PM show. The early response on the digital world seems to be mixed, but the exhibitor feedbacks suggest a different picture, though one can say the same with surety only on seeing the Monday hold. The start lays a platform for Housefull 5, but its just half the job done as the film needs to show a strong weekend trend, and then a steady trajectory on the weekend to pass the finishing line with flying colours. All said and done, it's also the biggest opening day till date for a film from Housefull franchise, surpassing the previous best, Housefull 4 (Rs 17.50 crore). One must note that there are very early estimates, based on trends till 4 PM, and the actuals could vary depending on the performance towards evening and night shows.
