Seahawks reportedly extend GM John Schneider through 2030

80 / 110he Seattle Seahawks have given general manager John Schneider a four-year extension, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported on Wednesday. The franchise is securing its GM and president of football operations through 2030. Schneider is expected to sign on the dotted line and remain in the position he has held since 2010. After starting his GM tenure with the team, Schneider added the role of executive vice president in 2013 and, eventually, the title of president of football operations in 2024. The extension comes two years before Schneider's current deal ends in 2027. Adding three years to his tenure gives Schneider the chance to serve as the Seahawks' GM for 20 years. Schneider arrived in Seattle in January of 2010 after Pete Carroll was hired as the coach and executive vice president of football operations. He had previously worked with the team as the director of player personnel in 2000. His first tenure in Seattle succeeded three years as a scout for the Green Bay Packers and three years as the Director of Pro Personnel with the Kansas City Chiefs. He then served in personnel-related roles with the Washington Redskins and Packers before returning to Seattle. Schneider and Carroll helped the Seahawks win the Super Bowl in February 2014 when Seattle defeated the Denver Broncos, 43-8, in New Jersey. According to the Seattle Times, the extension was a result of a strong vote of confidence for Schneider to help keep stability atop the Seahawks organization. The search for stability follows massive changes in recent years, including the trading of stars Russell Wilson, Geno Smith and DK Metcalf. The Seahawks also moved on from Carroll after the 2023 season and replaced him with Mike Macdonald. The Seahawks have not made the playoffs since their wildcard appearance in 2022. Last season, they finished second in the NFC West with a 10-7 record. Seattle's notable offseason moves include signing quarterback Sam Darnold, wide receiver Cooper Kupp and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. They also re-signed linebacker Ernest Jones IV and defensive tackle Jarran Reed.

Falcons offensive coordinator named future head coaching candidate

PFSN names Falcons OC Zac Robinson a future head coaching candidate In 2024, the Atlanta Falcons hired former Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach and passing-game coordinator Zac Robinson as their new offensive coordinator. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris saw Robinson's potential while the two worked together in Los Angeles, and he made sure to bring the young assistant with him to Atlanta. After working with Super Bowl-winning quarterback Matthew Stafford on the Rams, Robinson got the chance to coach both Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix Jr. last season with the Falcons. The first-year offensive coordinator showed a ton of promise. Both wide receiver Drake London and running back Bijan Robinson had breakout seasons. If he has another successful year as Atlanta's play-caller in 2025, Robinson may find himself with a head coaching gig. Pro Football Sports Network analyst Jacob Infante named Robinson as one of 32 future head coaching candidates in a new feature. PFSN names Robinson future head coach candidate: Like Arizona, the Atlanta Falcons started incredibly hot but cooled off as the 2024 season continued. Part of that was due to Zac Robinson's performance as their offensive play-caller. Robinson, 38, comes from the highly regarded Sean McVay tree, having been the Rams' passing game coordinator in 2022 and 2023 before his promotion in Atlanta. He has a big opportunity to become a strong head coaching candidate if the Falcons' passing game performs well with Michael Penix Jr. now under center. -- Jacob Infante, PFSN While Cousins got off to a good start, his play fell off drastically after he suffered an injury during a Week 10 loss to the Saints. Penix eventually replaced the struggling veteran in Week 16 and played surprising well for a rookie. Atlanta's offense became more explosive the moment Penix entered the lineup, and Robinson deserves credit for having the young quarterback ready to play. Plus, unlike during the three previous seasons under head coach Arthur Smith, the offense did a good job of utilizing the team's personnel. The Falcons offense should be among the NFL's top units this season. Robinson's presence is a big reason for those expectations. With another good year under his belt, don't be surprised to see Robinson go the route of former Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in 2026.
