SAFETY in numbers so they say.
It's worked for Willie Mullins, and now Aidan O'Brien opts for the same mantra in Sunday's first French Classics.

In the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2,000 Guineas) the master of Ballydoyle unleashes Henri Matisse, Camille Pissarro, and Serengeti, likely to be in as a pacemaker.
Then in the Group 1 Poule de'Essai des Pouliches O'Brien relies on Exactly, Bedtime Story, Merrily, and Heavens Gate. Wham Bam!
The Poulains looks a cracker, and features the impressive Greenham winner Jonquil, Jessica Harrington's talented Hotazhell and Godolphin's Aomori City, smashed up by Field of Gold in the Craven.
Henri Matisse and Camille Pissarro could both win.
The former was sensational when landing the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar in November, a race in which Aomori City was a running-on third.
Camille Pissarro has been a short price in nearly every start, but the one he went off at lengthy odds was when he took the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at this track.
Field Of Gold was fourth that day, while another challenger tomorrow Misunderstood was third.
Camille Pissarro had a prep for this at the Curragh on March 29 running on into second under a penalty.

It was an eye-catching effort and suggested stamina no issue.
Detain and Luther also clash after finishing first and second at Chelmsford.
Both have masses to find on paper, although I suspect of the pair Luther will come out on top.
A fascinating renewal. It won't surprise me at all if Aomori City runs huge.
As for the Pouliches, all eyes are on Zarigana for the excellent Francis-Henri Graffard.
The daughter of Siyouni, out of a Frankel mare, is closely related to superstar Zarkava but suffered a shock defeat in the Prix Marcel Boussac over Arc weekend.
She was sent off 1-2 that day and looked a tricky ride.
This season she returned by denying Shes Perfect, who goes again for Charlie Fellowes and Kieran Shoemark, in the Group 3 Prix de la Grotte.
That's a traditional trial for the Pouliches, and it may be that Zarigana is just too classy. But she will have to swoop late.
Bedtime Story once looked like an absolute machine for O'Brien, landing the Chesham at Royal Ascot by nearly ten lengths.
At the time she looked a monster.
But later she got stuffed in both the Moyglare and Marcel Boussac.
It's possible she's best fresh.
Exactly is exposed and was beaten in a Group 3 at Leopardstown in March.
She would have to do much better to win here but might improve a lot for the effort.
Graffard also relies on the unbeaten Mandanaba, by sire of the moment Ghaiyyath. If it turns into a true stamina test few will gallop stronger than her.
On the home front on Saturday it's about the Lingfield Derby and Oaks Trials and, if you like a big betting race, the Victoria Cup at Ascot.
Just three runners in the Oaks trial and it will be a major shock if
Giselle
(1.15 Lingfield) doesn't hack up for O'Brien.
There is a little concern with a first time hood, but Giselle is already the best on paper and she's bred to get better with age and distance.
The daughter of Frankel was last seen in a Group 3 at the Curragh when not getting a clear run and finishing fourth (promoted to third) behind stable companion Whirl.
She had a blip in her training regime before that effort and is probably better than we saw.
As for the colts equivalent, Stay True may have much more to come but I like the experience of O'Brien stable companion
Puppet Master
(3.00 Lingfield) who looks to be crying out for this trip.
He stayed on well last time when fourth behind Delacroix at Leopardstown in the Ballysax and the run strongly suggested he had more to give.
Having had a few goes he should cope with this track no problem.
Over at Ascot I'll take a chance Metal Merchant (2.40) doesn't find the ground too fast in the Victoria Cup.
But I'll turn to Haydock and the Swinton Handicap Hurdle for my best bet of the day.
Lanesborough
(1.35 Haydock) lacks experience but could be chucked in off 116.
He's a real improver who was second off 103 before hacking up off 108 at Warwick over a slightly longer trip.
I can see him loving coming off a strong gallop for Ben Pauling and Ben Jones. After six races he could have loads more to give.
Plenty in the Swinton to choose from for an insurance bet.
Good luck and Yeeehaaa!

Spurs close in on Thomas Frank after making official approach to Brentford

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR HAVE made an official approach to Brentford over making Thomas Frank their next head coach, the PA news agency understands. Spurs sacked Ange Postecoglou on Friday, despite Europa League success, and quickly set their sights on Frank – who has gained admirers for his work over an impressive seven-year period at the west London club. After positive initial talks over the weekend, confidence started to grow on Monday morning that Frank would be the man to replace Postecoglou and Tottenham have now entered discussions with Brentford, PA understands. Frank's current deal with the Bees runs until the summer of 2027 and contains a release clause reported to be in the region of €11.9 million (£10m). Brentford are eager to hold out for Frank's release clause, but they have started talks with Spurs over a compensation package which would soften the blow of losing the highly-rated Dane. The 51-year-old would take over a Spurs side which won the Europa League last month but finished 17th in the Premier League. Poor domestic form during the 2024-25 season cost Postecoglou his job as the Spurs board was forced to make 'one of the toughest decisions' it has had to make in dismissing the head coach who ended a 17-year trophy drought. Advertisement 'It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond,' a club statement on Friday read. PA understands Tottenham have also relieved coaches Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo of their duties. Ryan Mason left his role as Spurs first-team coach last week to take over as West Brom boss, which opens the door for Frank to bring in some of his own staff – with current Brentford assistant Claus Norgaard a long-term ally. PA understands another departure from Spurs this summer will be Scott Munn, who was made chief football officer at the club in 2023. Tottenham technical director Johan Lange has remained in post and is set to renew allegiances with compatriot Frank. Frank and Lange worked together at Danish club Lyngby before they both made their marks in the Premier League. Lange attempted to bring Frank to Aston Villa in 2022 when he worked at the midlands outfit. Former Brondby boss Frank has developed a strong reputation in English football since he took over Brentford, with his tactical nous and man-management skills often lauded by rival managers and pundits. After Frank guided Brentford to promotion in 2021, he quickly enabled them to compete strongly in the Premier League despite a modest budget and has been linked to a number of high-profile vacancies in recent years.

Manchester City complete their first summer signing as Rayan Ait-Nouri joins

Manchester City have completed the signing of defender Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves in a deal worth up to £36million. Ait-Nouri becomes deposed Premier League champions City's first signing of the summer and has agreed a five-year deal. City moved quickly to get the deal completed by Tuesday's deadline before the first transfer window shuts, enabling Ait-Nouri to play in the Club World Cup which starts on Saturday. The deal for the 24-year-old Algeria international is understood to be for an initial £31m, rising to a potential £36m on completion of certain clauses and bonuses. Ait-Nouri will become City's first-choice left-back, after Pep Guardiola operated without a recognised specialist there last season and the season before. Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Ake and Nico O'Reilly filled in there last season, with Ait-Nouri's arrival solving a long-standing problem for City in that position. Ait-Nouri said: 'I'm incredibly happy and honoured to have joined Manchester City. City are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the chance to play for the club is a dream come true. 'I'm also so excited about working with and learning from Pep and his coaching team and getting to train and play alongside such a world class group of players. Joining City is also a very proud moment for my family, too. Now I can't wait to get started and to play in front of our supporters.' City director of football Hugo Viana said: 'Rayan is a player that, as a club, we have been following closely for quite some time and we are delighted he has joined us. 'He already has extensive Premier League experience and has also demonstrated his quality at international level with Algeria. 'We feel sure that he will be an excellent addition to our squad and that working alongside Pep and his coaching staff will help develop his game even further. 'At just 24, he is someone we feel sure will help us in our objective to bring more success to the club.' Ait-Nouri joined Wolves from French side Angers permanently in 2021, having spent the previous season on loan there. He made 157 appearances for Wolves, scoring 12 goals and producing 19 assists over his five-year spell at Molineux. Angers are understood to be landing £9.5m from the deal, after Wolves bought out their 50 per cent sell-on clause - as per the two sides' agreement when Ait-Nouri was sold to Wolves. Last season Ait-Nouri started 37 of 38 Premier League games, with City boss Pep Guardiola said to have been as impressed with his reliability as his attacking and defensive qualities.

Kempton Park still at risk of closure as developers have option to build houses on famous track until 2030

KEMPTON PARK is still at risk of being closed and knocked down for housing. The Jockey Club announced in January 2017 they were selling off the racecourse to developers in a bid to raise £100 million. 2 Kempton Park has been at risk of redevelopment since 2017 Credit: PA 2 Builders Redrow have exclusive rights to buy the land at Kempton Credit: Dan Charity But the track was given a reprieve when those plans hit the buffers in the face of So the Jockey Club sold an 'option to purchase' to builders Redrow in September 2018, Sunracing can reveal, meaning they can buy the land for development during a set timeframe whenever they want for a pre-agreed price. The expiry date on the agreement is in 2028, though it can be extended a further two years if Redrow express interest in going ahead with the purchase of the 230-acre site, either in its entirety or part of it. The Jockey Club has not hidden its desire to sell off land at Kempton for housing to raise much needed funds, and in February 2020 they announced But those plans were also scuppered by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Jockey Club remains in a deep financial hole, with the last set of accounts published last summer showing they have around £54 million of debt. Spelthorne Council said eight years ago the site was unlikely to be considered for housing eight as it was deemed 'strongly performing' green belt land. But the new Labour government has relaxed planning laws to encourage house building, with the aim to build 1.5 million new homes before the next election. The Jockey Club dismissed recent speculation on social media that the racecourse was to be closed at the end of next year, but there is a desperate need for housing in Surrey and Redrow is still interested in developing the site, for all they have yet to trigger their option to buy the land. Most read in Horse Racing A Redrow spokesperson said: 'We have an agreement with the Jockey Club to promote Kempton Park for development, lasting until 2030. 'Since this agreement was made, we have been reviewing whether the site, or parts of it, could assist with the delivery of much needed new housing in Surrey.' The Jockey Club said: "Since 2018, Redrow have had the exclusive right to promote Kempton Park as a potential site for residential development, lasting until 2028. "Since the agreement came into effect it has been entirely normal procedure for there to be ongoing discussions to see if the site, or parts of it, could play a part in addressing the need for houses in the local area. "Given the recent changes in wider planning policy, it is no surprise that those discussions are continuing, but in real terms there has been no change in Kempton Park's status.'
