Aidan O'Brien says Delacroix 'on York programme' not Glorious Goodwood path
The Ballydoyle trainer confirmed the Coral-Eclipse Stakes winner will head to the Juddmonte International despite bookmakers' slashing his odds for the Sussex Stakes on Thursday Aidan O'Brien insists Delacroix remains on course for next month's Juddmonte International - despite a wholesale gamble on the Coral-Eclipse Stakes hero for the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. The beaten Derby favourite, who redeemed his reputation with a neck defeat of Ombudsman over a mile and a quarter at Sandown Park 12 days ago, was available at 16-1 on Wednesday for the Visit Qatar-sponsored Group 1 test. Market support down to 5-1 triggered speculation Delacroix would step back to a mile for a clash with Sussex Stakes hotpot Field Of Gold, an imperious winner of the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes on his last two starts. William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: 'We're less than two weeks away from the Sussex Stakes, and the much-anticipated clash between Field Of Gold and Delacroix could be coming sooner than we thought. 'The Juddmonte had seemed their potential first head-to-head, but we've taken notable money for Aidan O'Brien's Eclipse hero to see him more than halve in price for the Sussex. 'He's now a 5-1 shot from 16s, and while he still has a way to go to get to Field Of Gold at 4-7 favourite, his price collapse could suggest that Ballydoyle are seriously considering dropping him back to the mile. "We'd still expect Field Of Gold to be very hard to beat over this course and distance, but their meeting would be a tantalising prospect for racing fans.' But O'Brien stressed the Knavesmire on August 20 - he is set to be joined in the York line-up by Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) victor and Eclipse fourth Camille Pissarro - is still next on the Dubawi colt's to-do list, Ballydoyle's Henri Matisse, winner of the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2,000 Guineas) at Longchamp before a second to Field Of Gold at Royal Ascot, will seek revenge on his John and Thady Gosden-trained rival on the South Downs in 12 days' time. 'The plan for Delacroix and Camille Pissarro is that they are both on the York programme,' O'Brien reported on Thursday. 'Henri Matisse will go for the Sussex.' O'Brien's Minnie Hauk is William Hill's 2-9 favourite to add Saturday's Irish Oaks to her triumph in the Epsom original after a total of seven rivals were declared for the Curragh Classic yesterday.

So it was fitting that his hugely promising jockey son's first winner would come on one of Weld's horses. He will be aiming to chalk one up for O'Brien on Tuesday, though, as he gets the leg up on Mont St Michel. The 10-11 favourite for a 1m6f race at Killarney runs in the iconic Kyprios black and white silks of Moyglare Stud. Smullen Snr wore the same when he rode Refuse To Bend to victory in the 2003 2,000 Guineas. Mont St Michel, a four-year-old colt, was close up behind the now-retired Kyprios on his last run and is co-owned by the Coolmore juggernaut of John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith. Paddy, 17, spoke so well after his breakthrough win - and explained how much it meant to him to follow in his old's man footsteps. He said: "I wasn't thinking about winning but just getting as good a position as I can. "I came out in front and was delighted. It doesn't feel real at all. It all went way too fast, it's amazing. "There's lots of sentimental value as well. It's brilliant to follow in his footsteps. "Dermot and the whole family have been amazing to me. I'm happy to repay them for what they've done for me." One punter commented afterwards: "Got shivers when I saw DK Weld and P Smullen on the card… absolutely brilliant, best of luck in the future." While another wrote: "Best of luck Paddy, your father would be so proud of you." And it's clear O'Brien clearly sees some of that talent too, jocking him up on a potential stayer of the future. Cosmic Year pencilled in for Goodwood outing
The Kingman colt impressively won the King Charles II Stakes at Newmarket before chasing home Field Of Gold in the Irish 2,000 Guineas but then disappointed in the Prix Jean Prat at Deauville. Trainer Harry Charlton will now step him back up to a mile on the Sussex Downs in the Group Three Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes in preference to the seven-furlong HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes. Charlton said: 'He didn't run his race obviously (at Deauville) and we'll hope for a better performance next time. '(He came back) all good, no problems, all good. 'It probably won't be the Lennox Stakes and will likely be the Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood, which is a Group Three over eight furlongs. 'The City of York Stakes is on the cards but it is all dependent on his next run.' Charlton will bide his time with the fellow Juddmonte-owned Skimmer as he waits for cut in the ground. The three-year-old won on his racecourse debut at Leicester before coming home a cosy winner of a Kempton novice. The Great Voltigeur Stakes at York remains on the radar but he will only take up that route if the going eases between now and then. Charlton said: 'We wouldn't go up there if the ground was like it is now. 'I think he's a big horse and he's probably not one for firm ground, so we'll just keep an eye on the weather but we obviously know it's not long until September and surely the weather will relent at some point. 'He's a nice, big horse and a bit like his brother Okeechobee, he's coming into his own middle of his three-year-old career into his four-year-old career as it were.'
