Telangana government's Department of Industries in collaboration with the Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering and Technology (CIPET) organised a workshop on benchmarking studies to assess technology gaps in plastic and polymer sectors in Hyderabad.
Conducted under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme of the Union Ministry of MSME, the programme sought to evaluate technology adoption in the sectors and identify key areas for intervention to enhance competitiveness, innovation and sustainable growth of micro, small and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs), the department said in a release on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, Director of Industries G. Malsur emphasised the importance of applied research and collaborative ecosystems in revitalizing the MSME sector. 'India's polymer and plastics industry has the potential to become a global leader, provided we bridge the existing technology gaps through structured assessments and targeted interventions. This workshop is a step in the right direction,' he said, urging the stakeholders to adopt cleaner and smarter production technologies in line with the State's broader agenda of sustainable and innovation-led industrial development.
Additional Director of Industries Rajkumar Ohatker underscored the importance of equipping MSMEs with cutting-edge technology and skillsets to meet global standards. 'This benchmarking study is a timely initiative to enable our industrial clusters to embrace innovation and drive export competitiveness,' he said.
Joint Director of Industries Madhukar Babu highlighted the significance of data-driven policy formulation. 'The findings from the benchmarking studies will be instrumental in tailoring support mechanisms for MSMEs,' he said.
Principal Director of CIPET B. Ravi made a presentation on CIPET's contributions to the petrochemical and polymer sectors. Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association Joint Secretary Arun Lahoti spoke on TAAPMA initiatives.

UP govt plans ‘flat-like' factory in Greater Noida for MSMEs

Aiming to boost the medium and small scale (MSME) industries in the state, the UP government has decided to develop a flat-like ('flatted') factory space in Greater Noida with an estimated expenditure of Rs 125 crore. The factory space will be developed by Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) in Sector 28 of Greater Noida. Officials said that while the initial survey and preparations of the master plan are in process, the target is to get the project ready within two years. 'As per the plan, the idea is to provide the state-of-the-art infrastructure to MSME units in a shared complex, which would reduce their cost of production and other input costs as well. It will be provided as a fully equipped unit by the YEIDA with all the essential facilities, so that the units can start production and operations smoothly,' an official said. Officials said that with UP already having a large MSME base, this project would help not only achieve economic targets by bringing in new investment but would also help general employment opportunities. 'The project will be on EPC model — Engineering, Procurement, and Construction — with a three-year defect liability period,' the official added. The 'flatted' factory will have multi-storeys — a basement, a ground floor, and three floors that will all cover an area of over 38,665 square metres. As per the project plan, along with the main multi-storied building, the government will also develop a complex for any future needs. 'The flatted factory will also have internal water supply, electricity, fire safety systems, elevators, as well as HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), meeting the requirement of the MSMEs,' the official said. Further, the government would also provide pre-installed security features like CCTV, access control, and other electronic systems, the official added. While the design has been proposed to follow green building standards, the complex is also proposed to have 24 and 30-meter-wide roads connectivity linking it to the highway for ease of transportation of the goods. Officials said the government would also provide boundary walls, gates, guard rooms, internal roads, parking, drainage, sewage, water supply, plumbing pumps, fire safety systems, and landscaping, which would help ease the setting up of MSME units and with a fast pace, thereby reducing other costs.

Soon, ₹125 crore flatted factory for MSMEs in Gr. Noida

Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) will develop a state-of-the-art flatted factory for micro, small and medium enterprises or MSMEs in Greater Noida, according to an official statement. The complex is proposed in Sector 28, Greater Noida, with an investment of ₹125 crore. A flatted factory is a multi-storey industrial building designed to house several manufacturing units within a single structure. According to the state government, preparatory work, including the development of a master plan and related reports, was currently underway, with construction expected to be completed within 24 months. The flatted factory will provide fully equipped units with all essential facilities, enabling seamless production and operations, YEIDA said on Sunday. This project will be built under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model and is expected to be completed within 24 months. After the construction, there will be a three-year defect-liability period. The multi-storey (basement + ground floor + three floors) building will cover over 38,665 square metre and offer state-of-the-art units for MSMEs. The complex will include all modern facilities for internal water and electricity supply, fire safety, elevators, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning). The design will also follow green building standards. CCTV cameras, access control, and other electronic systems will be installed for security. The complex will have good road connectivity with 24 and 30-meter-wide roads linking it to the highway. External development work will also be done, including boundary walls, gates, guard rooms, internal roads, parking, drainage, sewage, water supply, plumbing pumps, fire safety systems, and landscaping. According to experts, the flatted factory complex is an excellent model for MSME units, in which multi-unit industrial operations are possible in limited space.

TReDS platform M1xchage eyes IPO in 3-5 years, aims ₹1.25 trn biz in FY25

M1xchage, a leading RBI-licensed Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) platform, which is witnessing an 80-90 per cent annual growth in business, is planning to go public in the next 3-5 years. "Although the company has been profitable for the last two years, the initial public offering (IPO) is still a few years away. We would look at an IPO in 3-5 years, depending on market conditions," M1xchange Chief Executive Officer Sundeep Mohindru told PTI. M1xchage, which started operations in 2017, is aiming to close the financial year with a business of Rs 1.25 trillion. Factoring as a business is picking up very well as it is win-win for the banks, buyers and sellers, he said, adding that the business has been witnessing a growth of 80-90 per cent on an annual basis. During the current financial year, he said the business is expected to reach Rs 1.25 trillion. Last year, the volume was to the tune of Rs 78,000 crore as compared to Rs 43,000 crore in FY24. The platform is facilitating invoice financing of nearly Rs 10,000 crore each month, enabling MSMEs with faster access to working capital and driving adoption across corporates, vendors, and financial institutions. India's supply chain finance sector is witnessing accelerated growth, driven by the need for faster-working capital access for MSMEs and digital transformation across industries. With the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI's) TReDS framework, digital platforms are increasingly becoming the backbone of MSME financing, he said. The platform facilitates discounting of invoices and bills of exchange, or trade receivables of micro, small and medium enterprises from corporate and other buyers, through multiple financiers such as banks and non-bank entities. Factoring or invoice discounting refers to transfer in ownership or financing of accounts by a third party or factor at a discount for commission and fees, wherein the factor makes a profit upon the settlement of the debt. About funding for business growth, Mohindru said the company is well capitalised at the moment to drive exponential growth. Recently, growth-stage investment firm Filter Capital invested about $10 million (Rs 85 crore) in trade receivables discounting system platform M1xchange. Prior to this, Jindal Stainless, leading stainless steel manufacturer, along with its wholly owned subsidiary, Jindal Stainless Steelway Ltd, acquired a 9.62 per cent stake in M1xchange. This deal involved a combination of primary capital and a secondary purchase of shares from existing shareholders.
