Tech adoption in plastic, polymer sectors, gaps assessed

Telangana government's Department of Industries in collaboration with the Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering and Technology (CIPET) organised a workshop on benchmarking studies to assess technology gaps in plastic and polymer sectors in Hyderabad. Conducted under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme of the Union Ministry of MSME, the programme sought to evaluate technology adoption in the sectors and identify key areas for intervention to enhance competitiveness, innovation and sustainable growth of micro, small and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs), the department said in a release on Friday. Addressing the gathering, Director of Industries G. Malsur emphasised the importance of applied research and collaborative ecosystems in revitalizing the MSME sector. 'India's polymer and plastics industry has the potential to become a global leader, provided we bridge the existing technology gaps through structured assessments and targeted interventions. This workshop is a step in the right direction,' he said, urging the stakeholders to adopt cleaner and smarter production technologies in line with the State's broader agenda of sustainable and innovation-led industrial development. Additional Director of Industries Rajkumar Ohatker underscored the importance of equipping MSMEs with cutting-edge technology and skillsets to meet global standards. 'This benchmarking study is a timely initiative to enable our industrial clusters to embrace innovation and drive export competitiveness,' he said. Joint Director of Industries Madhukar Babu highlighted the significance of data-driven policy formulation. 'The findings from the benchmarking studies will be instrumental in tailoring support mechanisms for MSMEs,' he said. Principal Director of CIPET B. Ravi made a presentation on CIPET's contributions to the petrochemical and polymer sectors. Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association Joint Secretary Arun Lahoti spoke on TAAPMA initiatives.
