Tesla drops India plans?
New Delhi: Global EV giant Tesla is not interested in manufacturing cars in India but keen on establishing showrooms in the country, Union Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy said on Monday.
US President Donald Trump has said that if Tesla were to build a factory in India to circumvent that country's tariffs, it would be "unfair" to the US. "Tesla... They are more (interested) only to start showrooms. They are not interested to (start) manufacturing in India," Kumaraswamy told reporters here.
The Minister made the remarks at a press conference to announce the unveiling of guidelines for the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Cars in India. "So far they (Tesla) have not shown interest. Tesla representative only participated in the first round of stakeholder discussions for the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Cars in India. The company's representative was not part of the second and third round of the stakeholder deliberations," an official said.

Brinkman estimated, that if the "One Big Beautiful Bill" is passed, it could lead the EV maker to take an additional $2 billion hit, amounting to abput 33% of its EBIT, reported The Street. The analyst highlighted that, 'The legislation would get rid of the $7,500 federal tax credit EV buyers receive, resulting in a $1.2 billion (19% of its EBIT) headwind for the company thanks to lower demand and margins,' quoted The Street. He also pointed out that, 'Additionally, [it] would outlaw the California Air Resources Board's ZEV program, which furnishes Tesla with regulatory credits. Without them, Tesla would have posted a loss last quarter,' as quoted in the report. Why is Tesla stock dropping in June?
