Amitabh Bachchan Refused To Shoot Kajra Re With Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek: 'Nahi Chalega'
Last Updated:
Director Shaad was confident that the song would be a chart-topper and convinced Amitabh Bachchan to give it a proper listen.
Kajra Re is among the most iconic Bollywood songs of the 2000s, celebrated for its infectious energy and blend of traditional and modern music. Featured in the 2005 film Bunty Aur Babli, the song showcased a star-studded collaboration with Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, and Abhishek Bachchan, creating a landmark moment in cinematic history. But did you know, Amitabh Bachchan was sceptical about featuring in the song and asked that it not be shot?
In a recent conversation with SCREEN, director Shaad Ali recalled, 'I knew when I heard an eight-second riff of it… that this is going to work wonders… But Yash Raj had given it the last number… ki yeh sabse kam popular hoga (that this will be the least popular one). Amit ji ne kaha tha ki yeh gaana shoot hi mat karo (Amit Ji said don't even shoot this song)."
However, Shaad was confident that the song would be a chart-topper and convinced Amitabh Bachchan to give it a proper listen. He said, 'Maine jab unhe bulaya tha sunne ke liye… toh he said ki yeh nahi chalega (When I called him to listen to it, he said it won't work)." Amitabh Bachchan felt that the song needed better creative input.
'He did all that jugalbandi in the song… all the portions from which it starts. I wanted him to sing that, but he said no and wanted Shankar Mahadevan to do it," Shaad shared. Although Amitabh Bachchan agreed to do the song, he had his reservations. Shaad recalled, 'Later, he was shooting a song for some film, maybe Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna or something else, I don't exactly remember, and said, 'Yeh hota hai item song (This is what an item song should be).' I was like, okay."
However, the song became massively popular after the film's release, and Amitabh Bachchan apologised to Shaad for doubting his creativity. 'Tabhi Amit Ji ka mujhe message aaya ki, 'I'm sorry, I second guessed it' (That's when Amit Ji messaged me saying, 'I'm sorry, I second guessed it')," Shaad recalled. Aishwarya Rai sizzled in the item number, her dance and expressions making Kajra Re an instant hit. Her magnetic performance was matched by Abhishek Bachchan's cool swagger and Amitabh Bachchan's timeless screen presence. 'Kajra Re wouldn't have been what it is without him (Amitabh Bachchan)," Shaad concluded.

Top 5 Bollywood Openers of 2025 So Far: Chhaava tops; Where will Housefull 5 land?
Housefull 5 led by Akshay Kumar is all set for a grand theatrical release. The film's advance bookings are almost about to end as we are less than an hour away from the film's release. The bookings of Housefull 5 point towards an opening in the vicinity of Rs 20 crore net and that would make the comic-caper the year's 3rd biggest Bollywood opener, only behind Chhaava and Sikandar. Chhaava opened to Rs 28.50 crore net and went on to do all time blockbuster level business across India. Sikandar, the Salman Khan star-vehicle opened with roughly Rs 25 crore net. The film was panned by fans and critics and it ended up sealing a sorry fate. Housefull 5 should have targeted an opening above that of Sikandar but that shall not happen owing to slower than expected advance bookings. Had the bookings been on par with the previous Housefull film that released in pre-Diwali, it would still have opened to a number above Rs 25 crore and closer to Rs 30 crore. Moving on, Raid 2 currently is the year's 3rd biggest opener with day 1 collections of around Rs 19 crore net. The movie emerged a bonafied hit at the box office despite competition from Retro, Hit 3 and Tourist Family. Sky Force and Jaat have currently occupied the 4th and 5th place in the list of top Bollywood openers of 2025 but that shall change tomorrow. Here Are The Top 5 Biggest Bollywood Openers Of 2025 So Far 1. Chhaava - Rs 29.50cr 2. Sikandar - Rs 25cr 3. Raid 2 - Rs 19cr 4. Sky Force - Rs 13.75cr 5. Jaat - Rs 9cr All eyes are on the film's word of mouth. If the word of mouth among the target audience is good, it will play well in theatres for the next few weeks and cross the Rs 200 crore net mark atleast. If the word of mouth is unfavourable, it will result in lesser than expected growth over the Eid weekend and then the numbers will come tumbling down in the weekdays. The family audience continues to remain vital for the success of Housefull 5. The industry is observing and monitoring the reception of Housefull 5 very closely. It will give the producers the courage to produce more ensemble comedies of the slapstick nature. Housefull 5 plays in theatres in just a few hours. Have you booked your tickets for the movie yet?

However, do you know that there was a person in Kaka's life who, though not married to him, remained with him just like a wife? Yes, the person here in discussion is veteran actress Anju Mahendru. Rajesh and Anju lived together like husband and wife for a long time, which is today called live-in. Rajesh Khanna's co-star Mumtaz revealed this secret relationship of Rajesh Khanna. Box Office: Housefull 5 registers the 5th best advances for a Bollywood film in New Zealand; Kiwis remain loyal to their beloved comedy franchise
The much-anticipated Housefull 5 starring Akshay Kumar in the lead is gearing up for a good start at the global box office, with its advance bookings painting an encouraging picture, particularly in New Zealand. The fifth installment of the much-loved franchise has recorded a stellar USD 28,000 in gross advance bookings for its opening day in New Zealand. It has secured its place as the fifth-highest opener for a Bollywood film in the market. This figure propels Housefull 5 ahead of heavyweights like Tiger 3 (Saturday), Fighter (Thursday), and Dunki (Thursday), trailing only behind juggernauts such as Pathaan (Wednesday), Animal (Friday), Jawan (Thursday), and Padmaavat (Friday). This achievement is a testament to the franchise's longevity. The Housefull series has consistently struck a chord with New Zealand audiences. Its strong advance performance in New Zealand should come as no surprise, given that previous installments have also ranked among the top 10 Bollywood openers in the market during their respective release periods. Housefull 2 was the biggest Bollywood opener, Housefull 3 was the 6th biggest and Housefull 4 was the 3rd biggest. The franchise's signature mix of comedy, chaos, and chartbuster music continues to resonate with the Kiwis. Beyond New Zealand, the film is showing promising traction in other international markets. In Australia, advance bookings for the opening day have reached an impressive USD 67,000. The UAE, another key territory for Bollywood releases, is also witnessing solid momentum, with Vox Cinemas projected to sell approximately 10,000 tickets across its chain for the opening day. Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, advance bookings are trending toward a healthy 15,000 euros. These figures collectively point to a strong international opening for Housefull 5, with early estimates projecting a weekend in the range of USD 3.5 to 3.75 million. Akshay Kumar's Good Newwz may likely remain on top of this list because it had much better bookings than the upcoming release in a big traditional market like US-Canada. Coming to the movie's India bookings, Housefull 5 has sold a little over 80,000 tickets in the top national chains as at 10pm on the day before release and it should end in the vicinity of 90,000 tickets if the current trend holds up for the next couple of hours.
