Zhao Xintong winning World Snooker Championship has rival 'fuming' as Stephen Hendry floats jealousy theory

Hendry isn't sure how Ding Junhui will cope with his compatriot becoming first Asian player to win the world title after betting ban
Stephen Hendry reckons Ding Junhui will be "fuming" after Zhaoi Xintong pipped him to a major snooker milestone.
The Chinese star became the first Asian player to win the World Championship after beating Welsh favourite Mark Williams 18-12 at the Crucible this week.

Xintong, who served a 20 month suspension for gambling offences, was a qualifier for the tournament and went all the way, knocking Ronnie O'Sullivan out in the semis before his final triumph.

And seven-time word champ Hendry doesn't think that will have gone down well with Ding, who lost in his only final appearance nine years ago is no longer the only face of the sport in China now.
"It'll be really interesting to see what Ding's thinking," the Scot told the Snooker Club podcast. "He's been the benchmark for Chinese snooker. He will be fuming. If it was me I'd be fuming.
"The fact is that Ding is snooker in China, Ding Junhui is snooker. Overnight he is not Mr Snooker anymore. It might spur him on, who knows, but it's something that's going to be difficult for him to handle, actually.
"If it was me, I'm Ding Junhui, I'm not happy tonight. I don't know Ding well, maybe he's close to Zhao and he's delighted for him.
"But if it was me I'm thinking: 'I'm not happy that I've had so many years to do it, I haven't managed to do it, this guy's come along after being out of the game for two years and just done it, qualified and done it.' He's now the man in China.

"There's a huge exhibition circuit, huge invitational tournament circuit apart from the ranking tournaments. Ding has to be there, Ding has to be involved, Ding is often one of the co-promoters and it's all about Ding. It's not going to be like that."

The Rangers cull starts now as just four stars sealed off for Russell Martin and the rest face oblivion

There are 27 first-team players in the Ibrox squad and Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell are going to be ruthless Russell Martin and Kevin Thelwell must have gone over Rangers squad list a hundred times by now. The new Ibrox gaffer and his sporting director have been charged with the task of revamping and reshaping a pool of 27 players who have grossly under-performed in the past few years. ‌ It's the start of a new era at Rangers under new American ownership and with a fresh-faced boss in charge. ‌ They're assessing the current crop of stars and they've got little time to cast judgement. Potential big-name recruits like Conor Coady and Dor Turgeman are already on Gers' radar, with sweeping changes set to be made over the summer. Here, Record Sport gives you the chance to decide what to do with the squad. Should each player start, be on the bench, get sent out on loan - or be sold? Here's our verdict... ‌ 1: Jack Butland Had a poor campaign last season and made too many errors. But he's an England international with two years left on his Ibrox deal. START. 2: James Tavernier ‌ The skipper will always have doubters and might face more competition for his place this season. But Martin has already confirmed he'll keep the armband. START. 3: Ridvan Yilmaz The Turk has shown flashes of his quality since arriving at Gers but injuries have killed him and he can't be relied upon to stay fit. Time to cash in. SELL. ‌ 4: Robin Propper Dutch defender hasn't impressed since being signed last summer by Philippe Clement. Isn't suited to the Scottish game and looks set to return to Holland. SELL. ‌ 5: John Souttar The best defender Rangers currently have on their books and is a Scotland international. But with the new gaffer looking to add centre-backs, he will have to fight for his place. BENCH. 7: Oscar Cortes ‌ Verdict is still very much out on the Colombian winger. Injuries have curtailed his progress but he does have quality which Martin might be able to bring out. BENCH. 8: Connor Barron Made his Scotland debut on Monday and finished the season well under Barry Ferguson at Ibrox. But is he good enough to be Rangers' first-pick at number six? BENCH. ‌ 9: Big striker has defied critics to bag over 50 goals in two seasons at the club. Probably not typically the kind of striker Martin would go for but should still have a part to play. BENCH. ‌ 10: Mohamed Diomande Ivorian has blown hot and cold in a Rangers shirt. Can look brilliant one week and poor the next. Still a valuable asset though and has a profile Martin might like. BENCH. 11: Lyall Cameron ‌ Talented midfielder signed a Bosman deal in January from Dundee while Clement was in charge so remains to be seen whether Martin will be a fan. BENCH. 14: Nedim Bajrami With a price tag of £3.5million Rangers fans had every right to expect more from the Albanian. Just hasn't produced enough quality regularly enough. SELL. ‌ 15: Jose Cifuentes When Michael Beale signed the Ecuador midfielder he said he'd take Rangers to another level. Unfortunately, that's been DOWN the way. Has been on loan at Aris in Greece. SELL. 17: Rabbi Matondo ‌ Every manager will believe they can get something out of the Welsh winger due to his searing pace and finishing. But he flatters to deceive and has picked up too many injuries. His time is up. SELL. 19: Clinton Nsiala ‌ Young French centre-back hadn't played a professional game before being thrown in under Clement. Still raw and there's potential there but needs to go out and get games. LOAN. 20: Kieran Dowell Has never looked good enough to be a Rangers player from the moment he signed from Norwich. Impressed out on loan at Birmingham and could head back there. SELL. ‌ 21: Dujon Sterling Currently out with a long-term achilles injury and hasn't been fit long enough at Rangers to nail down a place. Utility man has core attributes Martin would want if he returns. BENCH. 22: Jefte ‌ Brazilian left-back probably shouldn't have played as many games as he did in his first season at Rangers. Started really well but his form tailed off and Martin will want competition in that position. BENCH. 26: Ben Davies Rangers have struggled to find left centre-backs capable of performing in Scotland and Davies falls into that category. Haven't got their money's worth and expected to sign for Birmingham where he was on loan. SELL. ‌ 29: Hamza Igamane A rough diamond and someone Martin will be excited about working with. Still has a lot to learn but loads of potential as he showed with the Old Firm winner at Celtic Park. START. 31: Liam Kelly ‌ Martin likes a keeper who's adept with the ball at his feet so Kelly will fit the bill. But whether he'll be picked as number one ahead of Butland - or a new signing - remains to be seen. BENCH. 38: Leon King Defender had so much promise as a kid but was thrown in at the Champions League deep end by ex-boss Gio van Bronckhorst and has regressed. He has to leave to kick-start career. SELL. ‌ 43: Nico Raskin Arguably Rangers' most prized asset. Club has to decide whether to build the team around him or cash in this summer before he goes into the final year of contract. START. ‌ 45: Ross McCausland Northern Irish winger was given a chance to shine under Clement but has struggled to nail down a starting slot. Clubs are interested in him and might suit all parties to move on. SELL. 47: Robbie Fraser ‌ Impressed on loan at Livingston last season and unlikely to be given a chance by Martin at Ibrox up against Jefte and potentially a new left-back arriving. SELL. 49: Bailey Rice Youngster has loads of natural ability and a sweet left foot but whether he's got the pressing attributes Martin requires in Gers' engine room is up for debate. A season out on loan getting games might be beneficial. LOAN. ‌ 52: Findlay Curtis Another Ibrox kid who needs game time but hasn't yet shown the quality which would demand it under the new manager. A full season playing regularly elsewhere would do him good. LOAN. 99: Danilo There was so much hype when he arrived from Feyenoord for big money but he failed to deliver. Injuries, a loss of form and lack of opportunity hasn't helped. With three years left on his deal, the Brazilian will be hard to shift but Rangers must try. SELL.

Man Utd 'world class genius' was teacher's pet but he took no s***

Fergie didn't suffer fools during his managerial career but had a soft spot for this player Former Man Utd No. 2 Rene Meulensteen has revealed how Paul Scholes was Sir Alex Ferguson 's 'teacher's pet'. And the Dutchman said it's simply because the England icon was 'a genius'. Scholes spent two trophy-laden decades at Old Trafford and even came out of retirement during a time of need for Ferguson. ‌ And asked who the biggest teacher's pet was during his time as assistant to Sir Alex, Meulensteen told Action Network: 'Paul Scholes because of the footballer he was, he was a genius, and I would rate him as one of the best world class midfielders ever. ‌ 'He was a genius and in training, if the bus was there and wasn't moving, he could hit it with a ball from 60 yards. 'I remember once, I was standing next to the manager with a cup of tea and Scholes wacked the ball from 40 yards. "I saw the ball coming and Scholes ran past me and said why did you move? 'We had a soft spot for him because everyone knew how important he was. "He was a no-nonsense player who took no s*** and was a really good trainer but also was at his best. 'He wasn't loud but when he said something, people would listen. Everyone respected him for how good of a player he was.' ‌ And despite Ferguson's reputation for giving players the famous "hairdryer" treatment, Meulensteen said he didn't see the legendary Scot lose the rag much. He said: "In all of my time as a first team coach, I can only remember when he raised his voice after West Ham when Nani got sent off towards the end of the season and basically, he did it to fire up all of the other players to say, you have to work double as hard to get us over the line. "He didn't want anyone to feel hard done by, but he was direct and tough with Nani but with a hidden message to all of the other players. ‌ "Other than that, I always felt he was spot on and never spoke for too long. He addressed things in two or three minutes at half time and that was it. "I was lucky to be there at a time when we won more than we lost so most of the time it was great. "If he did run into a defeat we didn't expect, even with a 6-1 defeat to Man City, you would think here we go. But the biggest thing that I took away from it was he was disappointed by the lack of players listening. "We got 1-0 down and Jonny Evans gets sent off and then go 3-0 down and we started going forward and Darren Fletcher scores to make it 3-1. It would've still been a hard struggle. Sir Alex was big on goal difference and losing 6-1, he said it cost us the league and it did by one goal."

Clement had 'enough patience' - or did he 'deserve more' time?

We asked for your views on Philippe Clement's exclusive interview with BBC former Rangers boss said it was "a pity the board didn't have the patience" with him during his time at what some of you said:Paul: Clement got more than enough patience, too much in fact. We as fans are happy to bide our time as long as we can see progress, but unfortunately under him we were going Spot on from Clement, finally some sense made of it all. Go with the plan, don't break it all up just because of a few bad results. Was sad to see him It will never be a popular thought, but I agree with Clement. I believe he was a good coach and with time that group of players would have developed the consistency he needed. What was missing was an extra cool head on the pitch. For example, every time Leon Balogun played we were a better No point in moaning about not getting enough time. You don't get that with the Old Firm and that surely would have been made clear to Clement at the start of his tenure. If you don't like it, don't take the Clement's comments only further confirm he did not understand the demands of Rangers and the fact he still does not understand the Queen's Park loss was monumentally embarrassing is the best evidence of Crazy he thinks he deserved more time and to tell us to have more patience when he dropped points left right and centre, then topped it off with a defeat to Queen's Park. No clear style and the inability to break teams down cost this man his job not the Clement should've been given more time. I'd rather have him than Russell Martin or Barry Ferguson. This would've allowed him to develop players and bring in new ones. Every team has a dip, but lack of resources don't He was in a no-win situation. Board was poor and buckled under supporter pressure. However, the cup loss to Queen's Park showed his style of play wasn't working with the squad he had and that he'd lost the players. There was no coming back from that.
