KULAI: A 16-year-old school student who allegedly used artificial intelegence (AI) to sell altered nude photographs of people is expected to be charged on Wednesday (April 23).
Sources said the boy, who allegedly sold the pictures for as low as RM2 each to about a dozen people is expected to be charged at a Kulai Magistrate's Court here.
Sources said he is expected to be charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code for the sale, distribution or circulation of obscene materials and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) for sharing offensive and inappropriate content.
Sources said the boy, a former student from a Chinese school in Kulai, had used AI to generate nude pictures of people resulting in a 19-year-old girl lodging a police report after finding an alleged nude picture of her on social media.
The first report was lodged in March.
All transactions were allegedly done online.
It was reported earlier that the principal of the Chinese school in Kulai had resigned following the arrest of two students who allegedly used AI to create fake nude images of women before selling them online.

Gerik bus crash: Teacher investigated over offensive comments made on victims

IPOH: An investigation is underway against a teacher accused of posting offensive remarks about the tragic accident that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris students on the East-West Highway in Gerik. Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said a police report was filed on Wednesday (June 11) at about 4.40pm concerning a Facebook post by a user named "Khalid Yunus," which contained distasteful comments regarding the university students involved in the fatal crash. The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, he stated on Thursday (June 12). He also urged the public not to share content that could cause distress or disrupt public peace. The Facebook post sparked public outrage after alleging that the 15 students died in disgrace. It further claimed that the victims were not among the faithful, as they had passed away while still owing debt to the National Higher Education Fund Corporation. The post has since been deleted, and the teacher involved has issued a public apology, claiming to suffer from schizophrenia. Perak education, higher education, youth and sports committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah said on Wednesday (June 11) that initial investigations confirmed the Facebook account responsible for the insensitive post belonged to a teacher at the school. The state Education Department has instructed the school where the teacher is believed to teach to prepare a full report on the matter. Taiwan jails Chinese ship captain for damaging undersea cables

TAIPEI: A Taiwanese court sentenced the Chinese captain of a ship to three years in jail on Thursday (June 12) after finding him guilty of intentionally damaging undersea cables off the island in February, in a case that alarmed Taiwan officials. Prosecutors said the man was captain of the Chinese-crewed Hong Tai 58, registered in Togo, which Taiwanese authorities detained after suspecting the ship had dropped anchor near an undersea cable off southwestern Taiwan, damaging it. The court in the southern Taiwanese city of Tainan said the ship's Chinese captain, whom they identified only by his family name, Wang, was guilty of damaging the cables, though added he had denied the crime and that he can appeal. Wang admitted that he told the crew to drop anchor, but denied that he was guilty of damaging the cables, and that he was merely negligent in his duties, the court said in a statement. The court found that the captain had allowed the cargo ship to "wander", and that the cables broke due to the pulling of the anchor, it added. Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom suffered losses of more than T$17 million (US$576,564) in repair costs, the court said. China's Taiwan Affairs Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment and Reuters was not able to locate a contact for a representative of Wang. China has previously accused Taiwan of "manipulating" possible Chinese involvement in the case, saying it was casting aspersions before the facts were clear. Seven other crew members of the ship have already been deported after prosecutors decided there was insufficient evidence against them. Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory, has reported five cases of sea cable malfunctions this year, compared with three each in 2024 and 2023, according to its digital ministry. Contractor fined RM50,000 for falsifying documents on MMEA vessel repairs

SHAH ALAM: A contractor was fined RM50,000 by the Sessions Court here after he pleaded guilty to forging documents related to repair works on a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) patrol vessel five years ago. Judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin handed down the sentence on Zulham Shah Mohammad, 44, on Thursday (June 12) and ordered him to serve six months in jail if he failed to pay the fine. The accused was charged with submitting false documents certifying that Subturbo Sdn Bhd had completed the repairs and tested the Remote Control System and Monitoring Control System on KM Sugut when, in fact, the work had not been carried out. He was accused of committing the offence at the MMEA Engineering Division, Home Ministry, Levels 4 to 11, One IOI Square, IOI Resort, Putrajaya, on Nov 6, 2020. The charge was framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code for fraudulently using as genuine a forged document, punishable under Section 465 of the same Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction. Earlier, during mitigation, the accused's counsel, Aiman Abdul Rahman, requested that the court impose the agreed fine of RM50,000. "I believe the early guilty plea has saved the time of many parties, was made with a sense of remorse, and the accused will not repeat the offence,' he said. However, Deputy Public Prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Ahmad Fariz Abdul Hamid, requested that the court impose an appropriate sentence as a deterrent to the accused and the public. In the same court, senior MMEA officer Muhamad Izuar Zainudin, aged 42, claimed trial to a charge of abetting Zulham Shah in forging the documents at the same location and date. He was charged under Section 471 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 465 of the same Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, if convicted. Ahmad Fariz requested the court to set bail at RM30,000. However, counsel Shahidah Muslimah Roslan, representing Muhamad Izuar, appealed for a lower amount, citing her client's cooperation throughout the investigation. The court then allowed the accused bail of RM10,000 with one surety and fixed July 16 for mention. – Bernama
