Mystery fire guts parked car in Manish Nagar causing Rs 8 lakh loss
1 2 3 Nagpur: A mysterious fire gutted a Tata Nexon car parked outside Plot No. 75 in Panchtara Society, Manish Nagar, in the early hours of Thursday, causing an estimated loss of Rs 8 lakh. The incident occurred around 2.15am and was reported to the Narendra Nagar fire station, which reached the spot within five minutes. The car belonged to Varun A, who is currently out of town. His parents were at home when the incident occurred. The fire was first noticed by a neighbour who had woken up for a washroom break. The neighbour informed his son, who then contacted Varun's parents. According to a family member, Varun's father rushed out of the house and tried to douse the flames using available water in their home. Neighbours also pitched in, passing buckets of water and using a hose from the adjoining house until the fire brigade arrived. The fire brigade team managed to contain the blaze quickly and ensured it did not spread further. They also ventilated the vehicle to release the smoke and prevent any flare-ups from the control tank. The vehicle was completely damaged from the front, with the engine, battery, and wiring charred. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo No casualties were reported. Long-delayed Vikhroli ROB to open today sans fanfare
Mumbai: The much-delayed Vikhroli road over-bridge (ROB), a key east-west connector over the railway tracks, will finally be opened for vehicular traffic on Saturday, following a directive from chief minister Devendra Fadnavis . The Vikhroli ROB, built at an estimated cost of Rs 105 crore, will help motorists save 30 minutes of travel time, said BMC officials. Fadanavis on Friday announced that to avoid inconvenience to Mumbaikars during monsoon, the 615m-long bridge, which connects Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg in Vikhroli West to Eastern Express Highway, will be made operational on Saturday 4pm without a formal inauguration. The work order for the Vikhroli ROB was issued in April 2018. BMC had drawn flak from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), which had cited improper planning, non-preparation of estimates as per site conditions, and non-removal of encroachment for the delay. BMC officials had then attributed the delay in the completion of the project to the acquisition of land, removal of structures and trees, and shifting of utilities. Ganesh Shetty, an activist from Vikhroli who has been pursuing the bridge construction since 2002, said: "The ROB will benefit vehicle users in Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, and Hiranandani Powai, but traffic issues will persist in Vikhroli West, LBS Marg, Tagore Nagar, and Kannamwar Nagar as the internal roads have not been widened." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No Distractions. Just Solitaire Play Solitaire Download Undo The approach roads on both sides of Vikhroli ROB, besides work on sound barriers, anti-crash barriers, painting, and road markings, have all been completed. BMC has also created a traffic bay on the western side. "We have completed all works, including the load tests and issuing of stability certificates for Vikhroli bridge. Besides, signals, cat eyes, and speedbreakers have also been installed. The joint commissioner of police (traffic), who inspected the bridge on Wednesday, issued instructions for the installation of direction boards and gave the go-ahead to open the bridge for vehicles," said a BMC official. NMC secures general body nod to start pay-&-park at 35 spots
Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation's general body has approved the introduction of pay-and-park facilities at 35 locations in Nashik city, comprising 29 on-street, on major roads and market areas to address parking woes across the city. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now With the GB's nod, the civic body will now start the tender process to deploy private agencies to operate and manage pay-and-park facilities at the 35 spots. The 29 on-street parking spaces will cover an area of 20km, accommodating 2,305 four-wheelers as per the standard size. The civic body will operate pay-and-park in a public-private partnership (PPP) model to earn some revenue. Parking will be operational for 14 hours between 8am and 10pm. The civic administration presented a proposal to the general body for approval, which was based on a recently developed parking policy crafted with expert input. Since the Smart City Corporation initially identified the parking spaces, both on-street and off-street, NMC required the general body's approval to take over the project and implement it independently. "We will soon float the tenders to appoint private agencies to operate and manage parking spaces on a pay-and-park basis under the PPP model. This will also help NMC increase its revenue,"a civic official said. Around a 150 to 200-metre radius from the parking spaces will be declared a no-parking zone. "Action will be taken against motorists parking their vehicles illegally in no-parking zones. NMC has also decided the penalty amount against such motorists, which will be Rs 600 per vehicle for two-wheelers and three-wheelers. The fine amount will be Rs 725 for cars and jeeps, and Rs 2,000 for heavy passenger vehicles," the official said. NMC will also sign an agreement with the police administration for joint action against vehicles parked illegally and also share the amount received through penalties for vehicles parked illegally.
