The pharma CEOs aren't safe in new trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos' Bugonia

The Verge6 hours ago

CEOs would be nothing without the labor of their (typically) underpaid employees, and the unfairness of that reality seems to be what's causing all the chaos in director Yorgos Lanthimos' upcoming film, Bugonia.
A remake of South Korean director Jang Joon-hwan's 2003 feature Save the Green Planet, Bugonia zooms in on the life of Teddy (Jesse Plemons), a conspiracy-minded beekeeper who works for a massive pharmaceutical company run by Michelle (Emma Stone). As one of the company's many workers who spend their days laboring to make a fraction of Michelle's salary, Teddy sees a lot of parallels between himself and the bees who live only to serve their queen.
Teddy knows that he, like a beehive's drones, is expendable in the grand scheme of Michelle's plans as a CEO. Teddy's frustrations and delusions about an alien invasion convince him that Michelle probably isn't a human. And that's enough for him to hatch a plot to kidnap his boss under the auspices of saving the planet.
Though the trailer skews a little whimsical, it's fairly clear that Lanthimos and writer Will Tracy are telling a dark story about people pushed to the edge by economic inequality. The movie also seems like it's going to touch on how people not having proper access to quality mental health care is a very real societal problem, which is probably going to make Bugonia feel timely as hell when the film hits limited theaters on October 24th before its wide release on October 31st.

New Trailer for Ari Aster's EDDINGTON - "We Are in a Fight Against Evil" — GeekTyrant

A24 has released a new trailer for director Ari Aster's new film Eddington , and it offers more footage from the film and insight into the story and the characters that fill it. This intense-looking movie is described as a modern Western set during the COVID pandemic. In the film, 'A standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.' As you'll see there's a lot of tension building in this small town and it looks like it's going to escalate into complete violent insanity. Phoenix and Pascal are joined by Austin Butler, Emma Stone, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O'Connell, Micheal Ward, Amélie Hoeferle, Clifton Collins Jr. and William Belleau. When talking about working with Phoenix, Aster said: 'Having now worked with him, I understand why he is so reluctant to jump onto anything — because he really puts all of himself into whatever he's doing. The way that he challenges the material — not in a gratuitous way or in a way that's a pain in the ass. 'The question usually amounts to 'Is there anything we haven't considered here?' I realized that it's something that I was really wanting from an actor, and now I can't imagine making a film without him.' Eddington is set to open in competition at Cannes. It will be released in the US on July 18.

Rosie O'Donnell reveals she was 'very depressed' and 'overdrinking' after first Trump win

Print Close By Marc Tamasco Published June 26, 2025 Rosie O'Donnell told former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo that she was "very depressed" and "overdrinking" following President Donald Trump's first election victory in 2016 on "The Chris Cuomo Project" podcast on Tuesday. O'Donnell revealed that she left the United States for Ireland out of a sense of "self-preservation" after Trump's second election victory, considering the difficulties she experienced after his first win in 2016. "During his first go-round, it was very difficult, and I got myself into some bad places. You know, I was very, very depressed. I was overeating. I was overdrinking … I was so depressed, Chris," she told the former cable host. ROSIE O'DONNELL WAS 'SHOCKED' THAT TRUMP'S ELECTION MADE ELLEN DEGENERES FLEE THE US She also shared that it hurt her heart to know that Americans "believed the lies" of Trump and, furthermore, that she worked in a business that "sells those lies for profit." Another reason O'Donnell listed for leaving the U.S. was to ensure that she could be a "good parent" to her 12-year-old child. "Coming to Ireland was totally a way to take care of myself and my non-binary autistic child, who's going to need services and help and counseling and all the things that he's [Trump is] threatening to cut in his horrible plan of the big, beautiful bill," she stated. She told Cuomo that she enjoys the fact that people in Ireland typically don't approach celebrities the way they do in America, and also noted that she feels safe considering there's no "MAGA support" in the country. O'Donnell related an experience she had in Ireland where an older man bought her a pint of Guinness after she told him that she had left the U.S. because of Trump being elected. She contrasted this with a story from the U.S., where the entertainer and her child were allegedly mocked in a CVS store after Trump won the 2024 election. The first official teaser trailer is here, previewing Yorgos Lanthimos' next movie, in which Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis kidnap Emma Stone, believing her to be an alien. The teaser trailer sets the stage for the movie with two conspiracy-minded young men led by Teddy (Plemons) kidnapping Michelle (Stone), a CEO of a major pharmaceutical company, believing her to be an alien hellbent on destroying Earth. Bugonia is set to release in theaters on October 24, 2025. Check out the Bugonia teaser trailer below (watch other trailers): Bugonia is based on the 2003 Korean sci-fi movie Save the Green Planet!, which was directed by Jang Joon-hwan. The film stars Plemons, Stone, Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. 'Lee Byeong-gu (Shin Ha-kyun) is convinced that there are aliens from Andromeda among us, plotting to destroy Earth,' the synopsis for the 2003 movie reads. 'He believes that Kang Man-shik (Baek Yun-shik), the head of a chemical production company, is their leader, and he kidnaps him. Holing up in his secret lair, Byeong-gu interrogates and tortures the supposed alien, hoping that he will confess to his crimes against humanity and call off the planned destruction of the planet before it is too late.' The movie is written by Will Tracy. Lathimos produces the movie alongside Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures, Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen of Square Beg, Stone of Fruit Tree, and Miky Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko of CJ ENM. Lanthimos' latest film, Kinds of Kindness, also starred both Stone and Plemons. The film will also mark his fourth collaboration with Stone, who previously has worked with Lanthimos on 2018's The Favourite, 2023's Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness.
